Y'all ever notice Gi-hunโs birthday is Halloween? As in, born on a day that represents remembrance of the dead?
As in, perhaps Gi-hunโs fate was always to be the lone regretful survivor? To carry forward the memories of those lost?
sure we know that In-ho shoved the gold card deep into Gi-hun's throat but what if he was the one who tied the band to Gi-hun's eyes? What if he was the one who handcuffed Gi-hun in the limo? What if In-ho was the one who personally healed the winner's wounds before sending him back to raw reality? what if man what if.
it probably feels good as fuck to freak out and scream really loud and break shit

RAHHHHH THEY COULD NEVER MAKE ME HATE U SEONG GIHUN
Helloo! I fucking love your analysis on gi-hun's character and the way you defended him lol (gotta defend our bbg <3) And sorry for asking cuz I really need someone smarter than me. I saw a post that blamed Gi-hun for Jung Bae's death, that all he could have done was give Jung Bae money so that he wouldn't go to the games (also for ghosting Jung Bae). And that he could have helped other poor people, but he chose to go back to the games.
Also, a YouTube video comparing and saying "who had it worse?" shows Gi-hun and In-ho.
And those takes frustrated me that I couldn't form into words TOT. I'm like a child asking for validation lol.
(again, sorry for asking and for horrible grammar/english)
Thank you! I truly appreciate it. You are all so nice to me :). Also, don't insult your intelligence, please! All Gi-hun defenders have the smartest most beautifullest brains ever. Also, your english and grammar is great, don't apologize. I hope you are satisfied with this answer. I've been waiting to talk about this one.
I also saw that post. Let me get this out of the way first: everyone is entitled to their opinion and I am not making this post to shame anyone or create drama. I just want to get my points out there.
Jung-bae's death is not on anyone except for In-ho.
Gi-hun was not the cause of Jung-bae entering the games. He "ghosted" Jung-bae because he had just went through horrible, unimaginable things and could barely make it through everyday life. People with tons of trauma like that tend to isolate themselves for many reasons. For Gi-hun, he is carrying a lot of weight and it's hard to keep up with relationships when you are constantly experiencing emotional pain. He doesn't want to burden people with that, or put them at risk by being the prior winner who is out to stop the games.
Also, how was he supposed to know Jung-bae was desperate enough to join the games or that he was even a target? He didn't know that he had debt like that or was losing his family to divorce. Maybe you can argue that he would have if he kept in contact, but see my above statements.
In addition, it is vital to Gi-hun's character and his plotline that he sees that money as blood money. He only started using it when he was desperate to stop the games. Plus, what would paying off peoples debts do in the long run? It doesn't erase future debts or all debts for that matter. Gi-hun didn't win that much money. Yes, that is still a good and easier thing to do, but that would not stop the games. It makes sense for him to use the money for finding the recruiter instead so that even if someone has a debt (which is pretty much unstoppable) that they won't be placed in fucking death games. Plus, wouldn't you also want to know about the games and how to stop them after all that had happened to you?
I just don't think its fair to blame Jung-bae's death on Gi-hun, at all.
(found family au) what would gi-hun and in-ho if one of their kids got in a big argument/fight with each other? maybe a slight disagreement happened it quickly escalated, some insults were thrown but the lowblows made it worse like a gasoline to a fire. thanos and sae-byeok come to mind for this tbh. it wasn't a big of a deal at first but it happened fast cuz these two have strong personalities so it suddenly became a big thing. sae-byeok called su-bong a good for nothing piece of shit junkie and su-bong yelled that sae-byeok should have died at the border by a bullet (oof. the angst... )
oh this is foul ๐ญ
okay so i think inho would be the first to react, in this situation. up to this point, he'd been letting gihun take the reigns, watching as he tries to descalate - saebyeok never backs down and subong is volatile so the two of them butt heads often.
but then, they both say those things and inho has had enough. he lets out a sharp "hey!" and both kids turn to him. he continues, "that's enough." and they both look ashamed but still glaring at each other.
gihun had been frozen, just watching his children say those hurtful things to each other and unable to understand why, but finally manages to talk. "we don't talk like to each other. we don't. we're a family." he then tells them to apologize to each other, which they do begrudgingly. and that's when gihun sees that he isn't actually getting through to them.
he says that they are being immature and childish, that they will never repeat those words to each other unless they want to be grounded for a year. that their past and their mistakes is never something that should be used to hurt each other. never.
inho ends it all by saying, "go to your rooms and don't come out until you are ready to apologize to each other sincerely."
Can I just say that one of my favorite parts of the 457-dynamic in fandom is that usually In-hoโs big bad nefarious evil plan to convince Gi-hun to join his side is โ to show that he loves him? Thatโs it. No frills, no nothing. He just worships the ground Gi-hun walks on.
And hereโs the best part.
It works. Gi-hun is not a protagonist whoโs above it all. He doesnโt turn his nose up at it. Even when he rejects In-ho, itโs not about whether heโs tempted or not, itโs about him being opposed to In-hoโs ideology. The man, for all his kindness, for all the way he freely gives affection, has probably never been treated like heโs worth something in his life. Heโs so touch-starved, love-starved โ that actually yeah, being in love with him is a strategy that works.
And the way itโs practically canon too. For example the part where In-ho slipped up and called Gi-hun by his name:
Do you know youโve known this man for two days Gi-hun? Do you know youโre third-wheeling a room of four-hundred people? Oh my god get it together!
Honestly itโs downright diabolical. They are soulmate-coded and I eat it up.
Someone commented on TikTok about how different Gi-hun was between season one and two, because he usually was the group's conversation starter, but now he's so down and quiet โน๏ธ
I have so many thoughts about this but it is too early in the morning for me to coherently gather my thoughts ๐ญ
โI have trouble believing anyone here would do that.โ
โIn the games that I played, I saw dozens of people murder each other in the middle of the night.โ
โRight where weโre standing.โ
โYou have no idea. You donโt understand this place. The kind of monsters that it can create.โ
โYeah, of course. I wasnโt thinking. You know better than anyone. Iโm sorry.โ
I just finished reading it and omg I LOVE IT AHHHHHHHHHH ITโS SO SILLY I WAS GIGGLING LIKE CRAZY UGHHHHHHHH EVERYONE GO READ THIS ITS SO PEAK!!!
the irony of in-ho having fish as pets and gi-hun being a cat person is so funny to me. especially when it's canon.
457 (crack) fic where in-ho and gi-hun fought because gi-hun's cat ate in-ho's fish ๐ญ
Oh I can just imagine the confrontation if/when they find Gihun and Gihun trying to push them away because heโs so convinced that outside of the games heโs absolutely worthless + he doesnโt want any of them to get hurt because then itโll add to the already mountain of guilt he carries. And Sangwoo trying to get Gihun to realize that heโs worth everything to him but Inhoโs gotten so into his head that he canโt believe it. Overall very angsty
For the AU where Ilnam takes Gihun off the game to keep him as a pet... I don't really have the words for this right now but please just imagine Sangwoo's POV for a second when he hears "player 456 eliminated" and how fucked up he'd be for the rest of the games and then getting out and going to check on Gihun's mom only to find her dead and he'd never even know what happened to Gihun (unless..?) aaaaaaa
(Unless he somehow also comes across the Salesman later on and actually has a semi convo with him where Salesman lets something slip that makes it sound like he knows Gihun and is talking about him in present tense. Nothing super obvious but something Sangwoo notices and puts together idk.. And then Sangwoo investigates?? Tries to infiltrate the games in his own way? (So imagine in a more VIP/insider sort of way) Maybe Saebyeok learns about this and also wants to help? Maybe they bump into Junho along the way and the whole merc Kim and co plot still happens but Saebyeok is on the water with Junho while Sangwoo is on the island confronting the Frontman and looking for Gihun)
(Nothing super dark/darker than canon is happening with Inho/Gihun in this AU so like I imagine he's not exactly kept there against his will.. Maybe at first, but then it's more that at some point he learned about his mother's death, and Sangwoo and Saebyeok got what they needed, and even with them being alive he's still traumatized from the games and Ilnam's betrayal and basically having to gamble with people's lives. They offered him enough money to pay off his debts and start over but he feels like he has nothing left to live for out there, like he wouldn't be able to talk to Gayeong and like Sangwoo wouldn't want anything to do with him especially after what they went through, so he just sort of... stays, and tries to convince Inho to stop the games, and when that doesn't work tries to at least keep changing them to give people the most chances of survival. Like the keeping the money change, or like a new change where people who vote to leave get to just leave and only those who choose to stay keep playing. No more 'special game' at nighttime.
And he's miserable but he really feels like he wouldn't know what to do with himself out in the real world, and he doesn't want to bring down his friends with him, so maybe it's better if he stays "dead". And meanwhile Inho is just trying to win him over and convince him that they belong together, that he can make him happy if he stays with him forever.)

I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS!!! ๐๐
gihun is so traumatized and insecure about his place in people's lives that he just remains in the island. gayeong is being taken to america, sangwoo will help gihun's mom he's sure, saebyeok has her life... in his head, he is of no use to anyone.
except inho. inho tells gihun that he is needed at the island. at inho's side. and also ilnam's but the old man isn't important here. inho can make him happy and fulfilled, can turn him from a man with no purpose into someone who betters the world by removing the trash from the streets. gihun is horrified by this of course, he won't be a willing participant in the murder of innocents.
so he tells inho that he needs to make changes to the games and gihun will stay. like you said, anon, the money being divided and the ones who want to leave being allowed out and the vote after each game.
unbeknowst to gihun, sangwoo and saebyeok and junho are trying to find the island.....

In the "Gi-hun knows In-ho's identity but pretends not to and fucks with him right back" AU - when Young-il loses his jacket, Gi-hun grabs (recently deceased) Player 132's jacket and brings it to In-ho all innocent like "oh this one was on the ground and it looks like it would fit you ๐ค I didn't want you to get cold tonight when the temperature drops ๐ฅบ"
But actually he specifically wanted to put In-ho back in the mindset of his past self, to break through the Front Man mask, so to speak, and bring up the man he was before
โgi-hun never forgave sang-woo for killing sae-byeok!!!!โ does the phrase โletโs go homeโ mean NOTHING to you

The Front Man believes that Gi-hun is wrong in his way of thinking, but perhaps, he reflects on himself through Gi-hun. I felt that a small part of him, unknowingly, might be hoping for Gi-hun's thoughts to be right. And rooting for him in some way.

Sorry for this
What I love about shipping Gi Hun and In Ho is that its fun both ironically and unironically, on one side you have all the memes and everyone being in on the joke, even the director of Squid Game joked that theres some scenes between Gi Hun and In Ho that look romantic. And there's the serious, intense and passionate side, there is without a doubt a strong connection between these two tragic men and if Season 2 was the last one, there are MANY scenes that suggest a possibility of love between them after everything is over, even if it's not the most healthy kind of love, it IS there. And thats why I love these characters so much.
every person can feel freddieโs presence in their souls when they sing MAMAAAAAA UUHHHH, I DONT WANNA DIE, I SOMETIMES I WISH IโVE NEVER BEEN BORN AT ALL with all the air in their lungs iโm not joking
how it feels being a 457 stan, knowing squid game season 3 will most definitely break my heart and soul into millions of pieces and right now Iโm just waiting for that knife pointing directly at my chest to plunge into my heart and twist the blade when season 3 comes
despite everything....it's.......still you..?
happy Thursday the 20th
