honestly there's a lot I'd like to see more about him! in particular I'd like to see more of him being genuine (like when he does things he actually enjoys or shows that he's displeased or angry with something), or him using magic (be it in battle, as I think he'd be very good with his attacks, or just his unique magic, like in chapter 4) or him being insane for a little while. as a treat. (kinda like when he was possessed in the halloween event but without the being possessed part. just him going feral for a bit).

I'd also like to see him not being so composed? like something going so unexpectedly out of plan his perfectly constructed mask cracks, maybe even making him a bit desperate (imagine the sheer genuine emotion he'd show). there's something about him being used to things going his way and then they don't anymore. he's the one with the upper hand most of the time but it'd be nice to see the roles reversed for once!! also some interactions with characters like Leona and Malleus in which they clearly are more powerful, to see how Jade would navigate situations like these.

maybe some event in which he's the one in a position of leadership, since it's not really his style, as he prefers to keep to the shadows. or some event that he gets to show his knowledge in alchemy! or to see him playing spelldrive or just flying in general because his sprites on flying lessons are. very funny.

also I'm a sucker for backstories so I'd like to see more about his past and his family in general! expanding on what Mr. Leech does for a living would surely be interesting, though part of the fun is not knowing what it is exactly, so maybe implying it more.

oh and some sprites that show more skin, not even in a "beach episode" way but just not covering everything up like he always does you know? if he just. rolled up his sleeves. or unbuttoned the first buttons of his shirt. it'd be like looking at a victorian woman's shoulders or ankles. I'd go crazy.

as I mentioned in my Floyd brainrot, I'm not immune to Octavinelle propaganda, they are actually my favorite dorm! they are all sooo interesting, both on their own and as part of a dynamic, be it between themselves or other characters!

time to dive deep into the waters of my Octavinelle thoughts. prepare yourself, it's a deep dive in.

the same warning as in Floyd's post: this is my own view of the characters that may not be 100% accurate and anyone can disagree!

I'll talk about them separatedly and then as a trio later on, so let's get started with the dorm leader, shall we?

AZUL

if you've seen my writing before anon, you might have noticed that I particularly like to make Azul suffer a bit, but I swear I love him!! it's just that I also love to break his carefully constructed façade and look at what's inside, what are Azul Ashengrotto's inner feelings, what are the things that stay in his mind only for him to ever see or hear, what is he hiding deep down?

oh Azul, where to start with him?

Azul is one of the most popular characters in the fandom, he's got a perfect combo going on for him: he's one of the housewardens, part of Octavinelle and he's got a tragic backstory. triple strike!

not only that but his businessman like persona and cunning schemes get a lot of attention, not to mention that he's twisted from such an iconic villain! Ursula from the Little Mermaid is certainly someone that stays in your mind even years later!

I'll begin at the beginning, and go on till I come to the end, then!

Azul's backstory is one many people can relate to, myself included, which gathers a lot of sympathy from the fandom for his woes. it's awful to be excluded as a child simply because you look different and is a bit more introverted, and I get the overachieving academically to compensate for it and feel like you can prove them wrong and that you're just as capable, just as good.

seeing him having a similar story to myself actually created a deep connection with his character, because I feel like I get it. it was awful and cruel and he didn't deserve any of it, the loneliness and the yearning to have what other's have, to be like them, to be acknowledged. (I was also a huge crybaby lol so I was picked on for that as well. Azul struggles.)

that's what makes people be so forgiving towards his wrongdoings, because they get it. they can put themselves in his shoes and feel his anguish and despair and desparation. "should I have been in his place, would I have done the same?"

but here's the thing, I think Azul needed a wake up call. maybe not done so crudely like it was in the story, but I understand the prefect's situation, what could they do? plus, it's much more interesting, narratively speaking, to have some huge drama instead of a much needed therapy session.

having everything he's been working for, during YEARS, be destroyed in front of him like that, literally turning into sand, was a breaking point to his already severely bottled up emotions. so he had a reaction that was understandable, but it doesn't make it right.

he had to get stripped away of all the things he'd stolen to be forced to face that he was more than that. he didn't need to prove his old bullys wrong and get his revenge, what he needed was to realize his own potencial. yes, he's different, but that's not a bad thing. it's wonderful, even, and it should be something to be proud of! he should be proud of who he is by his own efforts, not by stealing and tricking people into unfair contracts then hoarding their powers into his vault. Ursula herself was always very confident and proud of herself, something Azul was lacking in order to follow the Sea Witch's steps.

like the prefect has the option to tell Azul at the museum in the end of chapter 3, he's got something that's better than any magic, and he should be proud of that! he's got drive and wits and he doesn't need to live through others, he can live for himself, too.

after all, Azul's big strong point is how intelligent he is. he doesn't need powerful magic (which he does have, not only his unique magic but also his amazing potions) nor powerful muscles (which he also has. Floyd mentions that Azul as an octopus is stronger and bigger than the twins), because he has a powerful brain that's enough to make him be feared, a silver tongue that can rope anyone into one of his schemes.

my Azul appreciation was a gradual thing, since at first I didn't like him that much. I didn't dislike him either, I just didn't give him much thought at all lol like "oh he's an asshole but Ace, Deuce and Grim should have seen that one coming, come on!" and when he sent the twins to bother the prefect I also expected that, so like that's fair ig?

but then after his backstory?? I got my 'oh. oh!' moment, like yes now I get it!! I really like how they all go and put back the photo on it's original place and how Azul changes his dealings afterwards. yes he's still a little shit who will trick people into them, but it's not as exploitive as before? in chapter 4 he's also a great help, even though he really didn't have to get involved (the twins must have been driving him crazy because they were bored lmao)

actually in chapter 4 I was mad at him for filming it live because YOUR RISKING JAMIL'S LIFE? HE COULD GET INTO SERIOUS TROUBLE FOR THAT YOU KNOW?? and then he reveals it was a lie and I think that was the first time I didn't expect one of his schemes, which was very nice because wow he does have basic empathy!!

I also see some people thinking that his whole personality is a fake and he's still the same as he was years ago, which I don't agree with. Azul has learnt how to keep his façade, how to interact with people to get what he wants, how to keep other's at arms lenght and not let them see him vulnerable, but he's no longer the crybaby octopus that would hide in his pot at his troubles. Azul has learnt to face them head on, at least after his overblot, and he knows how to keep himself composed until the very last straw breaks. he's not clingy or whiny, he does his best to keep his image as he wants people to see him, but it isn't all a mask. sometimes the lines blurry, in which point does the businessman Octavinelle's housewarden ends and in which point does Azul Ashengrotto begins? are they not one and the same?

SO. I think he's neat. and he's my little lab rat that I like to project onto <33

also his family life is so interesting? I've read his mother divorced his father and married her divorce attorney and that's so girlboss of her. I just KNOW miss Ashengrotto is the best and super pretty too. (I imagine her to be a bit like Ursula, so very elegant and confident!) also I think she might own a restaurant too? Azul looking up to his mom and trying to be like her that's so cute

JADE

HIIIMMMM JADE LEECH WHEN HEEEEE <333 I LOVE IT WHEN. WHEN. JADE LEECH WHEN.

fun fact: Jade was the one I took the hand of at the start of the game, so he's also my first SR card! we have a special connection I love him I hope he lives his best life. he's also on my top three favorite characters, so you might get a slight whiplash from the change of tone lol

to get started with, I love how his personality is different from Floyd's, but not in a total opposite way, but in a complimentary one. while Floyd is like a passionate crime, done in the heat of the moment, Jade is a premeditated one, carefully planned down to it's details. neither is more or less dangerous, they simply are what they are.

Jade's superficial image of just a butler type character is very insteresting, but I feel people mistake it as him trying to hide his true self? I don't think that's the case, at least not in my point of view. Jade oftentimes lets his more. uh. let's say sadistic side slip through his polite mask, and it's completely on purpose. the students might be more afraid of Floyd, who's openly threatning, but they're also scared of Jade, who lets his mask slip just enough for them to peer a fraction behind it and think "oh. he's also a little fucked up, so I better behave."

he pretends he just wants to help and seems like a polite pushover who has to deal with Floyd and Azul tormenting him, oh poor thing (like Trey mistakingly thinks on Jade's cerimonial robes vignette), but the truth is that he likes it. he likes Floyd's chaos and does nothing to stop it, at most he only pretends he does. he likes Azul's deals and business, as it keeps him entertained. he likes to be more discreet and stay in the shadows, only observing and appearing inconspicuous, it makes people lower their guards more easily, makes them easy prey to lure in and close his jaws onto. he's sharp and knows how to hit all the right weak points to make people cave in.

Jade could use brute force like Floyd does to get his way, but I think the predictability of the outcome would quickly bore him. a mind game is much more fun, twisting his words and using his charm to make people walk into his carefully laid trap, only to realize it when it's too late to do anything about it. that takes creativity and skill, it's very impressive even! that's why he's sooooooooooooooo * sighs dreamingly * he knows how to use his words to the max, how to weaponize them so! it's common to see him as a big tease in fanfics and I think it's because of this, he likes the word game and he likes the thrill a smart conversation can offer.

there's this mystery aura around him because you never guess what he's thinking, with his carefully constructed expressions. it's pretty unsettling, someone that's an enigma and could be either thinking about the weather or planning on your downfall without you suspecting a thing, all with a polite little smile on his face.

there's also one thing. HE'S VERY CAPABLE. HE CAN ADAPT TO ANY SITUATION! I LOVE CAPABLE CHARACTERS. Jade can do anything he puts his mind to, doesn't matter how hard it seems. if he really wants something, he will get it with his own hands. AND AND AND HE KNOWS HOW TO COOK. I know I'd offer my SOUL to take a single bite of a mushroom casserole that he made. I just KNOW it would be heavenly, the taste of the divine melting in my tongue and making me ascend to the lands above

he knows how to take care of himself, like doing stuff like laundry? easy. washing the dishes? he's on it. moping the floor? it's shining already. something about the maturity and domesticity of Jade doing simple house chores with dedication is so charming, I love capable people !!! like yes king your bedroom is wonderfully organized !!

AND HIS TERRARIUM HOBBY? IT'S SO CUTE. the way he looks at his little plants with so much love makes me wish someone looked at me like that too. imagine his concentrated face as he waters his plants and talks with them about his day??? SO ENDEARING. it's the usual stoic character showing his softer and loving side for me. (yes I am well aware he likes his terrariums so much because he likes the feeling of being the God of a little world of his own creation, living by his mercy. I still think it's very cute.)

another thing I love so much is his Mountain Lovers club. like I can genuinely see he cares about it, not to create a false sense of security because "oh look at silly Jade with his silly mountain excursions" but because he truly likes to explore the land's nature. Jade is very curious (as seen in the vignette where he asks Ruggie to teach him new recipes using herbs from the mountains and in several other instances) and there's a whole new world for him to explore, with so much flora and fauna he's never seen before. who wouldn't want to explore it and see all it has to offer?

also the way he's always promoting his club and everyone just thinks it's weird. JADE I'LL JOIN THE MOUNTAIN LOVERS CLUB SIGN ME UP! RIGHT NOW! yes he'd make me climb mountains and laugh as he sees me struggling after I'm five steps in but it will be all worth it.

THERE'S THIS ONE SCENE IN CHAPTER 4 WHICH HE SAYS WHAT HE'D DO SHOULD SOMEONE BETRAY HIM AND HE'S JUST SAYING SOME HORRIFIC NIGHTMARE INDUCING STUFF WITH A CUTE LITTLE SMILE? LIKE? I LOVE HIM SO MUCH KKSKDJSFKKSKSK (I'm pretty sure he was only joking. or maybe that's what he wants me to think. either way it was so funny)

HIS UNIQUE MAGIC IS SO COOL TOO. like. the first time it appeared I just thought "wait this is so shitty you can't do much with it all" BUT. THAT'S THE APPEAL. IT FITS HIM SO WELL!! Jade wouldn't like a UM that gives him easy answers whenever he pleases. no, having to carefully plan when or if he'll ever use it on someone, how to approach them and make them look into his eye without being suspicious, trying to fill the gaps of the info he does get, it's much more exhilarating than having the answers handed on a silver plater!!

ALSO HIS SMILE!!!!!!!!! IT MAKES ME GO FERAL!!!!!! not the fake ass one he's always got, the REAL ones, the ones when you can see his pointy teeth he usually keeps hidden and his eyes crinkled and there's pure joy on his face (like his union birthday groovy card!). they clean my very soul and give me the strenght to live another day

so. as you can see. I'm very normal about him. I like him a normal sane amount.

DYNAMICS

as they are already so captivating on their own, as a part of a dynamic they always have something to offer and can work well with any setting: comic, serious, dramatic, soft, anything really. it's also why it's so fascinanting to write them!

some particularly interesting dynamics I think they have with other characters are:

Azul and JamilI - IT'S SO FUNNY. AZUL ACTS LIKE A MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRL WITH A CRUSH AND JAMIL REJECTS HIM EVERYTIME HELPPP. also I think Azul genuinely wants to befriend Jamil as he feels they are similar and could get along well? but Jamil knows all about Azul's schemes and is way too smart to get caught in one of them, no matter how much Azul nags at him

Azul and Idia - THE BOARD GAMES CLUB MY BELOVEDS! on Azul's school uniform vignette their relationship is explored more in depth and it's. so very funny. Idia, despite not having an ounce of the social skills' Azul has trained himself to have, manages to get under his skin so easily. he says a taunt that gets in Azul's mind for DAYS

Azul and Riddle - they are besties. I make the rules and I'm saying they are. as the top of their grade and second year (responsible) housewardens, the two of them have a lot in common and are often paired together, such as in the very beggining of the game, in the prologue as they chase after Grim in the first twistune, and many cards have buddy level and duo magic between them! (like their dorm uniform ones!) a study session with these two would be SO productive

Jade and Ruggie - it might sound a bit unusual but hear me out! they are both my favorites. wait I have more reasons! Jade and Ruggie are very similar, both are vice housewardens (or a pseudo vice housewarden in Ruggie's case, since he might as well be one with how he does stuff in Leona's place), both are very capable and responsible, both are mischievous, both can cook and like to discover new recipes, both are cunning and can be deceitful and there's one scene in the game's 2 year anniversary animated short in which they are shopping at Sam's together, so they are also besties.

Jade and Cater - HEAR ME OUT! first things first, Cater is also so interesting and I feel he has so much potential. in Jade's birthday interview, he answers he would like to have Cater as a brother, which might sound a bit unexpected at first but soon becomes clear as to why! they are similar in the way they both hide their feelings and put a mask on for the public to see, even if their motives are different. Cater also has a cunning side that he shows on the beans day event, in which they form a partnership that was so interesting! I wish they had more interactions, as they both can see straight through each other's masks and play a complicated mind game with each other while also having some fun!

Jade and Vil - I haven't seen the vignette they share but the card is very pretty so I do think their dynamic has a lot of potencial! I think Vil, like me, would appreciate someone who's responsible and can take care of themselves, so someone as capable and (seemibly) reasonable like Jade would be a good break from Rook's and Epel's harsher personalities. I think Jade admires Vil as well, especially due to his poison making skills, and would like to learn from him.

Floyd and Riddle - yes Floyd likes to torment Riddle and oftentimes picks on him to the point he's very stressed, they both get under each other's skin (like when Riddle says Floyd is like his brother because he knew it would irritate him enough to make him leave him alone, in the anthology I think?) and it's such an interesting antagonistic relationship. they are not enemies that hate each other or anything, so it's very amusing to see them quarrel.

Floyd and Ace - the basketball buddies! it's shown that they actually get along pretty well when Floyd is not on one of his bad moods, as they bond over their love of fashion (especifically shoes) and of the sport. they also like to goof around in club pratice and cause Jamil headaches, and Floyd has said in his birthday interview he thinks Ace is entertaining enough to chose him as a brother.

Floyd and Kalim - both are very honest, energetic and excitable, easily surrendering to their whims to do as they please. I feel like Kalim doesn't see any malice in Floyd's words, and while that can be dangerous if he doesn't notice the signs of a bad mood, it could also be very entertaining to Floyd and make him want to spend time getting into shenanigans with him. (and, again, causing Jamil a headache.)

between the three of them, as a trio, they work very well too! Jade enables Floyd chaotic behaviour for his amusement and because, according to him, if Floyd is happy then so is he. Jade helps Azul as his right hand man, covering any blind spots in his steel armor and leading him into battle flawlessly, doing as is asked of him with enough leeway for some of his own entertainment. Floyd gets on Azul's nerves with his carelessness and mood swings, but remains loyal at his side. Floyd likes to go along with some of Jade's plots, staying close to him to the point that where one is, the other is expected to be as well. Azul cares immensely for the twins, his first ever friends, the ones that extended their hands to him and didn't doubt he could do it. they all work together well as an unit, years of familiarity driving them to almost read each other's minds, know how they work from inside out. that's the thing with childhood friends, they know your most embarrassing stories and your deepest fears, your most shameful moments and your best hidden desires, and they care about each other as if they were family. (though they refuse to admit it even under gunpoint).

I hope you know I'm not trying to say any of the octatrio are evil masterminds hiding and waiting to enact a fish world domination or any of that. at the end of the day, they are all highschool students with veeeeery dubious morals that just want to have their fun (even if most times it's not harmless at all). Floyd might squeeze someone until you hear something crack and procced to have touble to do his homework. Jade might manipule Azul's clients to perfection and make them sign shady contracts and then calls his mom to tell her about his day and yes, he's been eating his vegetables and making sure Floyd eats his as well. Azul might run a successful business at the school and earn a lot of money, only to geek out about strategy games at his club with one of the most introverted people of the whole school.

none of them are "soft and misunderstood bois who never did anything wrong uwu" but they also aren't "all of that's evil in the world incarnate into three devious merman who will strip you of all your dignity and leave you crying on the floor"

they are very complex and well written characters filled with more layers than an onion, and I could stay here all day peeling them off one by one. that's the allure of Octavinelle, their siren's song is strongly due to how they look at first glance showing to be wrong once you look deeper, this break of expectations fishing your attention and keeping it on them, wanting to watch just how will they surprise you next.

ALSO there's something I haven't discussed at all in this: their designs. I feel like there's a lot I could talk about that but it doesn't enter exactly in this personality focused analysis so I left it out. do let me know if you'd like me to tell my opinions on their designs or maybe on specific cards as well!

TL;DR: there's no way to sum up everything other than I'm insane about Octavinelle and have many thoughts about them

from the first year gang, Deuce is actually my favorite! (Jack comes as a veeery close second fave) at the prologue I didn't really think much about him, then chapter 1 came and I decided he was going to be one of my favorites. yes it was at the eggs scene. HE'S JUST SO SWEET? I already have a soft spot for these delinquent types of characters and then he loves his mom so much he just wants to make her proud??? LITERALLY DEUCE SPADE THE ONLY MAN EVER

I think a lot about him, I'm sure if I was at NRC he'd be one of my first friends <3 he may be slow, but he's sooo dedicated it's truly endearing! I think he might come to ask for my help during classes and immediatly I'd go: you. you are my friend now.

the way he cares so much about his friends is so cute too, how he's ready to throw fists to protect them!! and when he switches to his gangster personality and everyone gets shocked it's so funny, I love his angry face sprite

there are so many scenes with Deuce that I absolutely adore, the eggs scene on chap1, when he comes to rescue us at the end of chap4, when he goes to the beach with Epel on chap5, the whole Wish Upon a Star event, his Ceremonial Robes vignette...

he makes me have to resist the urge to kiss his cheeks every time he says something cute. I'm squeezing his cheeks right now, they are irresistible. the way I'd be so ready to throw hands the moment anyone says anything bad about him ever. yes that includes Ace, square up!! I'm defending him with my life!!!

the way his character developed more on chap5 and he discovered his U.M. was sooo cool I was so proud of him!! I'd be bragging about it to the entire school "oh, Deuce has got the coolest Unique Magic I've ever seen. yup, even better than the dorm leaders!! he solos anyone with it!" cue to him being flustered but very pleased about it while Ace sulks on the background

From the beginning, when you told Trey that a Diasomnia student asked you out earlier that day, he had a strange feeling. Trey never considered himself a very jealous guy and even if he was, he had no way of stopping you. He wasn’t your boyfriend — a somewhat sad realization to assert;

Not that you were too excited about it yourself. You would go on this date just out of politeness and because it would be an opportunity to meet the village’s newest restaurant. Trey knew you and knew that you would try not to make things difficult for the student who was trying to approach you. You would manage to end everything on a slightly good note;

Still, Trey felt something burn in his throat every time this date was mentioned, as if he had swallowed a bunch of mustard. Talking about this with Cater, the friend teased him by saying that this feeling should probably be jealousy. But Cater added that if Trey was so concerned about your situation, he should confess his feelings right away;

To put it mildly, Trey didn't know how to do it. He didn't think you considered him someone more important than a friend and didn't want things to get awkward between you. But what if Cater was right? Would it really be madness to think you feel the same way? Trey didn't know. Love can be more complicated than a recipe with twenty ingredients and four rest times of the dough;

One day as Trey was walking down the hall after putting away his science club coat, he heard some laughter and a group of Diasomnia students together at a solitary spot in a single hallway. Trey stopped behind the wall when he heard your name being mentioned and even though it wasn't his nature, he tried to eavesdrop on the group's conversation;

From what Trey could pick up, the guy who asked you out wasn’t interested in you and this situation was a setup to play with you. They were jealous that Malleus visited Ramshackle to observe the gargoyles and found your mere good fellowship an insult. So the plan was to stand you up on the date and when you show up for a explanation, they would try to humiliate you even more;

A grain of mustard may be tiny but bitter enough to drive someone crazy. That's what Trey felt in his heart. A feeling of anger and revolt that started so small and was making him smoke through his head. But, taking a deep breath, he controlled himself and just smiled. Even if he wanted to punch those guys, he would actually do something... sweeter;

The next day, the group sat next by the Main Street and the student looked at the clock that marked one hour after the time he set with you at the meeting. His friends laughed but the laughter eventually died down when they saw you approach them with Trey by your side — a smile on both of your faces;

“I think something went wrong and you didn't show up at the diner. That’s sad but don’t worry!,” you gestured to Trey who had a package in his hands. “I got you a lemon meringue as dessert.” When Trey’s eyebrows arched and his smile widened, the students felt shivers. The vice of Heartslabyul threw the meringue neatly in the face of the guy who asked you out, splashing the delicious white cream on the others;

“Malleus will be very happy to find out what you were up to. Have a nice day,” Trey smiled politely and raised an invisible hat to them, walking out from there with you. You felt revenged and thanked Trey for alerting you about the prank, suddenly hugging him with all the strength you had;

This ended up taking him by surprise but Trey hugged you back and when you walked away, he kissed your forehead. You touched the spot he kissed, your spirits blooming like a beautiful red rose. And because Trey was more of a surprise box than people realized, he said he had just one more important thing he wanted to talk to you about. But this could be discussed on a date in that restaurant you wanted to see.

You were kind of down when Deuce talked to you after class. Apparently, an Octavinelle student asked you out and even though you accepted without thinking, you didn't seem too eager for it. You didn't tell Deuce the reason why but he didn't need much to know that you got into some trouble without meaning to;

One thing he understands perfectly. Deuce kept thinking about it throughout the day, partly racking up the feeling of helplessness he felt for not being able to help you get rid of a simple date and another part trying to understand what made that Octavinelle student invite you in the first place. You didn't have many acquaintances there besides Azul and the tweels;

Talking about it with Jack only made Deuce feel even more apprehensive about the whole thing. Jack wasn't one to judge others, but he wouldn't trust a flock of sheep in the hands of anyone in that dorm. Since they were your friends, they promised each other that they would keep an eye on the situation just in case;

The next day — a few hours before the date — Deuce was on his way back to the classroom because he had left his wallet in his backpack and only noticed when he arrived at the cafeteria. In this, he ended up overhearing a conversation between an Octavinelle’s group and they were laughing as they commented on how their friend was just a short time away from going out with the Ramshackle’s Prefect and would serve you the most spicy and terrible dish anyone could eat. The scandal you would make would be epic;

Their motive was not one of the best. They had been attacked by Azul during his berserk lapse before his overblot and they felt that if you hadn't stepped in to begin with, nothing stressful at that level would have happened. They didn't personally cared that Azul had put a third of the entire school’s students as forced laborers into the Mostro Lounge;

Deuce couldn't believe what he was hearing. After all the work you had and the hardships you went through to help them — he always felt guilty for letting you down that time — there were still people who didn't accept your good deeds! Deuce was disgusted. For the situation, for their plan, for the petty reasons and because the person he loved the most was involved in it;

Deuce gave the classroom door a good punch and ran out of there with the fury of a thousand card soldiers. Octavinelle’s students heard him and followed him to try to stop him from returning to the cafeteria. But Deuce’s anger was such that he ran like the wind through the hallways, his angry expression implying for anyone to get out of his way;

He managed to get to the cafeteria just in time to see that Octavinelle’s student next to you, marking the last details of the meeting with a sly smile. “You bastard!,” Deuce took him by the collar and stared at him steadily, his gaze sparkling. “Do you really have the courage to do this to someone who just wanted to help?!” The curses that followed it were pretty heavy;

You tried to hold Deuce’s arm and ask what was going on, to which he basically repeated the words of the boy’s friends out loud — these ones who tried to get out of there but the Leech twins blocked the door and exchanged sadistic smiles. Luckily, they managed to break up the fight before anything serious happened. The Octavinelle’s student swored at Deuce and you slapped him;

“Don't you dare talk about him like that, asshole! I'd rather go out with Deuce a thousand times because he's a decent guy!,” you confessed, too agitated by the situation and the insult the boy made to your crush to feel any shame about what you said. Deuce was shocked by that. He wasn't paying attention to anything else, not even Azul who stepped up after that;

You noticed Deuce’s intense gaze on you and gave him a faint smile, your feelings calming and the realization that you said more than you should. But to your surprise, Deuce managed to muster up enough courage to ask you out another day and you could spend that time together. Maybe something good will come out of it, don’t you think?

Silver was awake when he saw a Savanaclaw student ask you out on a date. It was a strange situation and even though Silver was still a little drowsy, he could tell that you were kind of led to accept that request — the student achieved this feat with a lot of calm and meticulously chosen words of self-deprecation;

You were going on that date for the sake of pity and that didn't make you feel good. Silver touched your shoulder but said nothing. He admired your kindness in accepting to go through this situation, yet he felt strange. Silver’s heart was heavy, sad and full of doubts. For the first time, he wondered why you would be next to him at that moment then. He wasn’t actually more interesting than that other guy…;

Since Silver seemed quieter than usual throughout the day, Kalim talked to him after class. In this, he ended up revealing his confused thoughts about you. Silver knew that you were very different from others in his eyes, but he couldn’t prick his finger on exactly what. To his own surprise, Kalim was able to identify the cause of all this: good old love, like in the fairy tales;

Silver thought much about this conclusion. That explained a lot. The reason why his heart would become so happy when you were around and heavy when you looked sad. He wanted to protect you, he wanted to see your smile light up his life. It was as if Silver had been asleep for all this time until you awakened him with your presence;

Silver still wasn't sure about confessing to you yet. He didn't want to be rude or selfish and get in the way of your date. The next day, he was inside a toilet cubicle when he heard the noise of water being poured in abundance and some laughter echoed through the place. Silver looked through the crack in the cubicle and identified some Savanaclaw students;

They commented among themselves about how their friend managed to set a trap and you fell like a duckling. The date that had been planned at the cafeteria would culminate in them dumping a bucket of water at you and getting revenge because you got in the way of Leona’s plans to win the magift intra-championship. As soon as the gang left the bathroom, Silver left too and took a shortcut to the cafeteria;

Silver knew his word alone wouldn't be enough to prove their frame, but if he could protect you from any attack, he’d fight anything in his way — a wall of thorns, a dragon, an entire jungle, anything for your safety. Silver arrived in time to catch up with the group before they got at you first;

Silver shouted your name and with a spell, pinned the Savanaclaw boys in the middle of the tables with the bucket in hand. Lilia was proud of his son’s improvement in spells. “It's a trap,” Silver warned you and turned to the boy sitting across from you. “I would never fool someone I love like that! I absolutely cannot forgive you!”;

It was the first time you had seen Silver’s eyes, normally a calm blue-lilac hue, become so firm and angry, almost losing its color. You stood up next to Silver, your beloved knight who arrived just in time to rescue you. The Savanaclaw student tried to punch Silver but he stopped the blow with extreme ease;

“Silver, never mind. A second cavalry arrived,” you pointed behind the other boy where Leona was with an expression of tremendous sour humor — first, they interrupted his lunch, then more problems accumulated. As the conclusion of this situation unfolded far away, Silver and you walked out towards the courtyard where everything was quieter;

Silver’s words about you being someone he loved still echoed in your mind. You stopped him and asked about it. He took a deep breath and looked up at the sky for a moment, recovering from the whirlwind of emotions he had to face in the last few minutes. But when Silver turned his gaze to you, giving a slight smile with an answer, you were also ready to give yours.

Trey knew you would be good company from the first moment he saw you. Unlike the other students who caused chaos even when they tried to avoid it — you know exactly who he’s talking about — your quieter, more shy personality stood out to him. Which was funny because you didn't used to like attracting attention to yourself;

Trey could understand that. He liked to act like a normal boy and as much as his life had always been relatively ordinary, he was considered the “quiet and proper student” of the class wherever he went. Both that and that classic “big brother” that others can rely on. Trey is reserved but, not necessarily shy or introspective;

When you talk together, it's like baking a cake. Ingredient by ingredient, stirring the dough gently and with a certain dexterity. Trey didn't pressure you to talk more than you liked and there was this implicit feeling that you were free to call it a day and do whatever you wanted after a good small talk. He would understand perfectly;

But ironically, it only made you spend even more time talking to him. Trey also noticed over time that you had a gentle side and even when your shyness was a hindrance, you didn't fail to help others and be helpful. This impression was intensifying more and more;

Before Trey could realize it, he was in love. It was like finding the perfect cherry to put on the cake he was preparing. Such a good, comfortable and sweet feeling. Trey found himself thinking for the first time about something that didn’t involve flour, sugar and stopping Riddle from guillotining the entire dorm;

He handled the situation with the utmost calm. There was no reason to act weird and if he suddenly got shy, you'd get it wrong — as happens in the teen movies Cater insists on recommending to Trey and forces him to watch. Not that Trey considers himself a movie-worthy protagonist but, one way or another, it was better to act normally;

But Trey is never prepared for the way you smile when he greets you as you walk in the hallways or when you visit Heartslabyul. You give a restrained nod but your smile is graceful and warm. It's like someone kneading Trey’s heart on a table, making it beat violently. But he is quick to pull himself together and smile at you back;

It took Trey a while to think of a way to declare himself to you, but in the end, he chose to make one of your favorite foods and leave a little note with the words “I love you”. Despite all the compliments that others give him, Trey doesn't consider himself the most skilled with words and he just wanted to make his feelings clear and easy to understand;

And so it was. You were so surprised but at the same time so happy that your love for Trey was reciprocated that you put the food aside just to hug him. It was a sudden but strong hug. Full of gratitude and affection, in a way that the gesture managed to be more complete than the best-crafted poetry;

Trey already expected that being your boyfriend would be a unique experience, even more so because it seemed that he only stayed friends with strange and eccentric people. Well, sometimes you could be one of those people deep down — actually, someone just like him. That made Trey laugh;

One of the things Trey likes to do with you is cooking. Whether he teaches you, whether you do something together, it’s a time of calm and tranquility. You are a perfect sous-chef, helpful and partner for all hours. Trey enjoys those little moments when you smile, always surprising him with yet another of your secret wonders.

You see, the ocean is the home to all kinds of fishes and creatures. Some more courageous and daring, others more shy and taciturn. The size of these fishes, in general, has a special role in how much they are willing to take risks in the sea — the same as extroverts in the real world; 

But regardless of size, you had the shyness of a little fish and Jade had everything to be the big fish, not only for his height but for the subtle way he inflicted fear on people. At first, you didn't have a very different reaction. Every time Jade passed by you, it was as if he had come out of the depths of nowhere and shock your heart;

It was a joy for Jade to see how your eyes could double in size every time you recognized his presence and the way you tripped over yourself and your own words when trying to talk to him. However, when he needed help with something, you were there to offer support. Always. Against all the odds, you mustered the courage to extend your hand to him;

Just like the time Jade was taking his pharmaceutics project to Prof. Crewel, which consisted of two terrariums from different families of fungi that he crossed. But the terrariums were reasonably large and you, passing by, worried that he was taking it all himself. Taking a deep breath, you approached him and half muttering, half gesticulating, you showed yourself willing to take the second terrarium to Jade;

No matter the good deed, you didn't bother to ask for anything in return. Even though being quite shy and talking to people wasn't your forte, you were always kind to others. Truly kind. Jade had no idea that someone consciously helping him and smiling in such a sweet way could make his heart feel as light as a bubble;

There was no more natural course but Jade ended up falling in love with you little by little. He managed to get closer to you over time, talking and sharing some of the thoughts that most of the time he hid. Obviously, not all on the same day. It was an equivalent exchange between you, one and the other opening up more day after day;

If being shy gives you any advantage, it's having that comfortable air of someone who can listen to people. The beginning was of slow development because this was also the role that Jade played in any conversation. He was naturally trained to guide people into a false sense of security to hear their deepest secrets. And you were... very difficult in that matter;

But the feeling of comfort you conveyed was genuine and won his heart with the dexterity of a good fisherman. Jade didn't realize it — it was Azul who commented on it — but he always smiled when he was next to you, listening to you talk very quietly about your opinions. A real smile, long and sweet. The kind of smile usually reserved for his mushrooms;

To your infinite surprise, the romantic feelings you developed for Jade were reciprocal and, in the words of the merman himself, you dominated him as no one has ever done and never would. That was said to make your heart fail for a brief moment and your shocked reaction was exactly what Jade expected. Oh, you just started dating and you already made him that happy!;

There is a silver lining to having a big fish as a boyfriend: other people are more afraid to pick on you. No matter where or when, Jade knows when others make some derogatory comment about your shyness — and woe betide them. Jade is for sure that person who in any establishment usually makes the requests that you whispered in his ear and corrects the waiters when they don’t understand what you said;

If you want a little encouragement to improve your speech or open up to people, Jade is there for it. He is a natural communicator and would be happy to help you. But in general, Jade cherishes a lot for your sweet and shy way of being, a precious anemone that he will take care of with all his affection.

If there was one thing Rook liked almost as much as admiring people’s beauty, it was contemplating their personalities. The world has a variety of people just like a tree and its thousands of leaves — similar but not necessarily the same. Even people of similar temperament weren’t like twins, perfect copies of each other;

Rook had already met several shy people and yet, you stood out among them in a very special way. Although he tried to explain it to you, you didn't quite understand. In fact, Rook’s pompous, eccentric and eloquent nature scared you a little at first. You never knew what to say to him and hearing him compliment you in a thousand ways didn't help much;

Invariably, you ran away from him as a frightened and smart dove runs away from a hunter. That only increased Rook’s interest in you. The circumstances of how you had stopped in that unknown world, the secrets you hid, your likes and fears, the words you wanted to say but never escaped the gates of your lips. In his free time, Rook liked to watch you from afar, watching your interaction with the world around you. You carried with you the shaking feelings of shyness, but the real gentleness of a noble heart. Rook always made a point of greeting you when he passed you — visibly and not behind a bush. At first, you were scared, but over time, it became part of your routine. He cannot restrain himself from praising and courting you whenever he gets the chance, swearing by the superiority of your inner and outer beauty above any other. You really can’t help but hide yourself behind that feather hat;

Rook definitely confessed his deep love for you in front of the Beautiful Queen’s statue during the most magnificent sunset you had ever seen. He told you that, according to some legends, the Queen was shy and reserved like you when she was young. But she has learned to combine her beauty and intelligence to overcome her obstacles;

Rook is confident in your potential and admires you in every way, even if you only advance little by little. He’ll be by your side at all times, being your moral support and a right-arm that you can hold on to to keep yourself on your feet. His faithfulness is immutable and absolute. It’s the first time you see him so confident and determined to swear his love only to you;
