Cannot believe Floyd promised his infant brother that he'd come back for him, after watching all of his other brothers leave. And then years later a brother did return to the tree and it wasn't fucking Floyd. I'd be on the goddamn news.

i think it would also be so cool if parallel canon was jelletonified
Can I just say that when poor Jennifer appeared at the start of that episode from a squid, nobody in history couldāve convinced me that THAT squid wasnāt Ben.
I was SO 100% sure that Ben died because they were on a mission on a boat and a girl fell overboard and he jumped to save her but they couldnāt swim back up so he closed his eyes and became a squid to cover her until she was back up on the surface safe and sound. WHICH is really traumatic and would explain why itās just called the Jennifer Incident.
(Whereas Sparrow Ben reached her underwater, realised he couldnāt save them both, and swam back up alone).
Bonus points if theyād already met somehow, since they totally implied Ben KNEW Jennifer since there were drawings and shit. Maybe even only Umbrella Ben knew Jennifer which is why he made that sacrifice.
Dont get me wrong I loved fighty, deny their father, Ben and I even liked Reginald shooting him (though not in front of them and wiping their minds that felt dumb). But I didnāt like Jennifer being in a fucking squid for no reason, or Ben being treated like heās Umbrella Ben when heās NOTTTTT
I wish they let viktor run around with a gun even though he ādidnt have powersā as a kid. Like pump em full of xanax or not, you give that kid a .32 and shits gettin real. āSure allison you can do mind control, Iām controlling the way his mind splatters that fucking wall.ā DIRECT QUOTE FROM BABY VIKTOR

you're laughing. The umbrella academy's final season destroyed every character's personal growth and semi-healed traumas, left huge plot-holes, completely abandoned some of it's most beloved side characters that were crucial in previous seasons and you're laugh-oh. You're crying. My bad. Go ahead. Let it out. Understandable.
An actual good Reginald who regrets what other version of him did and wants to fix it. He isn't fully good, nor do main characters forget what happened and fully trust him.
Sparrow academy, Ben from umbrella academy and Grace and Dolores come back.
Idk yet how but Klaus meets Dave and Viktor meets Sissy and Harlan and they got time to talk.
More screen time of Reginald's wife, Abigail.
Abigail and Grace bonding time.
The siblings having an ACTUALLY talk about Reginald being an allien.
Siblings drinking marigold by choice.
Klaus learing healthy ways to cope with his power.
Viktor powers being as powerful as in season 1-2, but he learn to control them.
Sibling learing how to live without worrying about the apocalypse.
Diego thinking that Lila is cheating on him just to realize she doesn't.
More about raletionship between Viktor, Five and others with umbrella academy Ben.
Five getting hugged by everyone (simply becouse never hug him when he came back in s1.)
Stanley came back also.
Scenes of Alison, Ray and Claire.
Did I cooked?
I just officially watched the first three episodes of season four and Iām debating watching the rest after seeing spoilers. But my takeaways so far are:
After all theyāve been through, they still donāt really keep in touch? Weird but okay.
Sloane and Ray just gone like that, huh? Doesnāt make any sense but sure.
As a Luther fan, I am devastated that everyone so far has cool upgrades on powers except him, and not only that, they incorporated Pogoās DNA being part of his power??? How does that work??? Also, like, how awful is that??? He was finally normal again and they go back to bringing that trauma back in his life??? I kinda wanted to see how his power wouldāve evolved into new stuff like the others, but whatever.
As a Ben fan since season one, what is happening here. I know this Ben is not Umbrella Ben, but like, cryptocurrency scam artist Ben? No real character development Ben? The plot revolves around him but heās hardly on screen Ben? Only good thing is that he was giving major Doc Ock vibes in episode three.
I like the potential whump fics that will come out of them getting their powers back. But even a fan of whump fics, I couldāve done without the excessive visceral vomiting.
Diego seems like he was written by someone who really didnāt get his character. I mean they all did seem OOC, but Diego especially to me??? Like that man didnāt give stay at home dad vibes last season with Stanley??? Lila being the stay at home parent? Really? No.
Thereās a lot I wouldāve changed so far, but I guess overall, the first three episodes were okay.
to give you guys some hope here are things i liked about s4 umbrella academy:
diego and luther having a silly little adventure and just being brothers
viktor finally getting closure with reggie
allison getting claire back!!
gene and jean being the coolest fucking characters of s4, truly they reminded me of s1 tua with their quirkiness
the light shed on viktor and ben's relationship - and how viktor was so adamant in helping ben
like... ben is literally in the same position viktor was in s1. feeling misunderstood by his family, alone, confused, not accepted, being feared of. and viktor understands this completely because he's been in this exact situation before. (they could have emphasized this better but-)
LILA GETTING HER FAMILY BACK!!!!
diego knowing punjabi because that's the native tongue of lila's family
luther being his usually, silly, himbo self ("i'm a professional dancer!!!!")
diego doing That Thing with the bullets
lila's laser eyes??? badass af
the weird subway thing and five's deli with all the different fives (council of wells much?)
klaus getting kidnapped in true klaus fashion... AGAIN š
and some other things i cant remember
okay, I just finished season 4 of Umbrella Academy and....
WHY DID DO LILA AND DIEGO SO DIRTY!!!!!!!!!!
Bro all their relationship development that happen in season 3 felt thrown out the window.
Don't get me started on the fact that "Lila hates bracelets" thing when it was a Diego and her thing season 2 and 3. Five you're not special or original.
Look I understand that marriage isn't easy, but why couldn't that been their focus of the season and not Lila having an affair and not Diego being a jealous husband.
ALSO, WTF DID DIEGO GO BACK TO HIS SEASON 1 PERSONALITY AGAIN!!!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.
What happened to my girl Sloane?! Best girl really just disappeared.
Jennifer being in a Squid.... REALLY!!!
They do Klaus so dirty every season
If you told me that AI wrote the script for season 4 of The Umbrella Academy Iād almost believe you. But I donāt think even AI couldāve messed up it up as much as the writers did. Someone must have a secret vendetta against the fans or something because in what world was that a good season? Or even a good way to end a show? Iām so blown away by the talent that was wasted, the character growth, the hardworking actors, the fans whoāve waited so long. The only thing that comes to mind when trying to articulate how let down i felt is comparing it to the ending of Game of Thrones.
Netflix has had so many loyal fan/customers despite how quickly they cancel shows. I myself use my friends account as we are at each otherās houses quite frequently anyway. But if I had my own account still (I unsubscribed after they cancelled tv shows after the strikes) I think Iād have canceled it for sure after this. Iām no expert by any means at marketing or producing shows, but something has got to change. Or at least I think so, maybe theyāre still making money by the millions and donāt care about quality? Iām just confused as to how this happened.
I myself have never read the comics, can someone tell me if this is anything similar to what happens in those? I feel like there has to be some explanation for how badly the season was handled. Let me know if Iām missing something!
Ben has been one of my favorite characters in the show since the first season and it pisses me off to no end how heās treated in s4.
I really respected the showās decision to have Umbrella!Ben sacrifice himself for Viktor because it made sense for his character to be ready to move on in that moment and to do that for his brother and his family. It was an end that did justice to his character.
But if Viktor dies at the end, and so does the whole family, then his sacrifice is for nothing. Ben saved his family at the expense of his own existence for what reason? So that they could live a couple more years and die anyway in the series finale?
I enjoyed the new take they did with Sparrow!Ben as a version of Ben who grew up without the mess and love of the Umbrellas and how much that changed things because it was a compelling conceptāwhich had no pay off in s4.
Why did the show bother establishing Sparrow!Ben as an asshole that was also desperate to belong and be liked, as the guy who whined about not being invited to Lutherās bachelor party and asked Klaus why the other Ben was so much better?
Why did we go through all this story arc if he ends up exactly the same in s4? Ben is still pushing everyone away, still considering himself to have no family and no friends, still thinking of himself as a bad person.
I thought weād get to see Sparrow!Ben clash with the others in order to show them heās not their Ben. And it would have been so freaking satisfying to watch the siblings accept and understand heās his own person and decide they want Sparrow!Ben in the family anyway. That would be an emotional conflict Iād care about, not the bullshit insta-love the writers pulled with Jennifer.
What was the point of Sparrow!Ben this season? He was used to being a soldier, but seemed desperate for a family last seasonāa family he immediately rejected when it was offered to him in s4.
He died a horrible death and had no control over his own body at the end. He didnāt even become a stupid flower in the new timeline. He just ceased to existāall alone.
With no family or ties. No hero death. Why did the audience spend 2 seasons getting to know this new version of a well liked character if the show did absolutely nothing to take the story to any decent conclusion?
Both Umbrella and Sparrow Ben are just erased from the narrative because the show didnāt even bother including them in their stupid collective death ending. 4 seasons of Benās death haunting the narrative and the Hargreeves for this?
Iām ranting like a deranged madman but thatās my main takeaway. What a waste :/
šŗ The Umbrella Academy
Can we talk aboutāfor a secāthe fact that the plot line about the siblings losing their memories of Ben's death makes no sense in regards to previous seasons?
The lines that they were supposedly fed by Reginald, as revealed in season 4, are that "nobody was responsible".
But in S2 E10, in the opening scene of Ben's funeral, Reginald directly blames them and states that they "allowed" Ben to die on the mission.
Them retconning it is so much less interesting than if it actually WAS the UA's fault that he died, to some extent. Ben's death was the final nail in the coffin for the UA, causing them to split up. It's not a stretch to say that the guilt was what did it in the end.
Idk. I won't lie, I literally gasped when Jennifer and Ben got shot and it was shown that it was Reginaldāand that shot of their corpses as the title card is fucking GORGEOUSābut I don't think a lot of this season was thought out in regards to the other seasons. This is just one of many problems such as inconsistencies, plot holes, character assassinations, etc.
Here's a list of things I liked in s4 because I need more than one morbidly beautiful opening shot to give me a purpose in life:
Confirmation that Ben and Viktor were close as children
Proof that Ben's always had a mean streak in him, the brainwashing just made him seem like a saint
The concept of the time subway
Five's Deli
That scene with Diego spinning in the air with bullets swirling around him
Jennifer having a Filipina actress
Diego and Lila's daughter being named Grace
Klaus practically being Claire's other parent
Luther embracing the silly
Gene and Jean
As Iām trying to come to terms with whatever the fuck that was, Iāve decided that:
Seasons 1 and 2 are peak. Absolute masterpieces. Canon.
Season 3 can be taken or left. Has its moments, but overall not as good as the first two. Canon, but only if you want it to be.
Season 4 is a fucking crack fic written at 2am that the author rereads at a later date and decides to delete. Absolutely not canon.
people uneducated in the gerard way canon blaming him for ua being bad leave my girl out of this!!!!!!!
No seriously what was this about then if none of them remembered/recognized Jennifer???
SPECIALLY sparrow Ben, you mean to tell me he obsessively drew the picture of some other random woman who also happened to be named Jennifer????
Let me get this straight:
- there was no dance number
- barely any good songs
- no mention of the weird Korean ben with the side part
- Sloane and Ray were written off with one (1) line
- sure Ray walked out but why on earth did Sloane disappear if she was there with them in hotel oblivion I guess weāll never know
- we were told Reggie erased everyoneās memories about Benās death but ??? it was physically impossible for him to have erased ghost Benās memory. Like, did Ben never discuss that with Klaus? It looks like he didnāt even realize it was Reggie who shot him, did he never ask Klaus how he died? š
- they showed us sparrow ben obsessively drawing Jennifer in s3, sort of insinuating he survived the Jennifer incident in the sparrow timeline but he straight up didnāt recognize her at all now? Itās like they were meeting for the first time?
- where did that subway even come from
- um. Five and Lila
- how the hell are their kids alive in the last scene if the siblings never existed
- why the hell are the Swedes and pretty much everyone from the commission there alive at the same time if they were meant to be taken from different time periods and thatās meant to be a true and pure timeline without any time travel whammy
- seriously wasnāt there a scene with an old timey black and white picture of the Swedes they would NOT be there in 2019-2024-whatever-year-itās-supposed-to-be
- why does grace have a stroller in that last scene whose kid is that
- on that note whatās up with Lilaās family, to me that kind of insinuates all of the 43 WERE born in that timeline but⦠thereās no mention of any of the children or any of the siblings bio families
- which completely ruins the last plot point of ALL of the marigolds having to be destroyed, please even if the other children werenāt born there they straight up still had a half a jar of marigolds in Diegoās van ššš
- ALSO what was Abigailās motivation, am I crazy or did she go like āfuck you reggie for wanting to destroy the world to punish you I am going to destroy the worldā ???????
And Iām not even touching the whole Five characterization thing oh my god

The plot twist of how Ben died was shocking and all, Theoretically a good plot twist. But. It's lazy and boring and I refuse canon and accept fanon. Ben died because of his powers, period.
