Age: Fairly newmade pearl

Personality: Tahi is usually sweet and outgoing, but she is constantly masking internal depression, paranoia, and stress to please Red Abalone.

Backstory: She doesn’t have too much of a backstory considering she may be a fairly new pearl. She is really a people pleaser so she tries to please Red Abalone in any way she can. She tries to stay positive even though pleasing Miss Red is slowly making her insane. She loves the idea of Fusion with other gems although it is highly unacceptable. She is trying so hard to be her best and please anyone she needs to.

so i had an insight about Jasper

so we know that Jasper popped out of her hole perfect. she is the Perfect Gem™. the biggest. the strongest. the toughest. the quartziest. even her hole is perfect.

and i realized, i know what that feels like.

i was a Smart Kid™. sure, i didn’t pop out of my hole perfect; i was also a Weird Kid™. but i was constantly told that i was smarter than other kids. that i was even a little bit better than other kids. i always heard “you’re too smart for the public schools!” “you’ve got the vocabulary of a kid twice your age!” “other kids don’t know as much as you.” “you shouldn’t correct people (but you are right).”

and i’d bet dollars to dolomite that that’s what Jasper heard too.

because Jasper, as we see her after Alone At Sea, is obsessed with strength. she’ll do anything to feel strong again.

beg back the gem who imprisoned her and tortured her? yup.

assemble an army of insane monsters? yup.

fuse with an insane monster just for more power? yup.

and that reminds me of things i’ve done. to me, this doesn’t look like a Jasper Is Obsessive thing. to me, this looks like someone who was constantly told they were good at something being confronted with a problem that they can’t solve.

Jasper couldn’t defeat the Crystal Gems, despite being the Perfect Gem™ (because her strength wasn’t the right kind of strength necessary to defeat them). i struggled since i hit my sophomore year of high school, despite being a Smart Kid™ (because my intelligence wasn’t the right kind of intelligence necessary to solve these problems). like hell i turned to external aids and used every underhanded trick i could in order to maintain my status as Smart. Jasper reminds me of myself, in that she is doing everything she can to maintain her status as Perfect.

i don’t think it’s just the Rubies who were so impressed with Jasper. i think all Homeworld was impressed with Jasper. “The Facet 9 Kindergarten Quartz That Could.” “popped out of the ground with her helmet on.” “took out eighty Crystal Gems before the sun went down.” that’s what she heard her entire life.

so Jasper couldn’t let anybody down. she had to be Perfect. and that’s why she did the things she did.

She went from “hello sir nice to meet you” to “ya daughter calls me daddy too”

long time no see, huh? the Submit Your Pearl Contest has come back again! as always, with new pearl colors for you to choose. as stated before, i’m gonna need in total 24 Pearls that will be featured in my upcoming Steven Universe fanfic called Nacreous Clouds. 8 have been choosen from the first batch, 7 from the second, 9 to go. here are some rules and info about the contest (there are even more rules to this one, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!):

✦ more than one kind of Pearl can be submitted, for example: two Burgundy Pearls. remember to follow the color palette, although some unique details like freckles or stripes are more than welcome. just don’t stray away from the main color.

✦ one person can submit in total 2 Pearls per batch. more than that will not be acceptable and I’ll have to disregard one or two Pearls of yours, which I really don’t want to do. give other people a chance to compete!

✦ you must submit a picture, along with a detailed description of your Pearl. tell me about their personality, their backstory, their goals, and what do they think about being held captive by Red Abalone (some Pearls actually don’t want to leave). however, don’t make the description too long to read: although I LOVE built up characters, only tell me what is necessary so I can work nicely with them. that aside, go nuts! a reference sheet will be needed for the winners.

✦ winners of previous batches can participate again, but can only submit one Pearl per batch. this is to open more slots to new faces!

✦ you can only use the colors presented here. people sent me pearls of other colors that weren’t in the first batch, but i liked some of them so much that i ended up accepting more than what was planned. this time, though, pearls of other colors will not be accepted to participate in the contest, sorry.

✦ only 5 pearls will be accepted this time around. i just love pearls too damn much and end up accepting more than what was planned, hence why i had to change the number of pearls in each batch.

✦ remember, Red Abalone is NOT very kind to the Pearls, and triggering themes like psychological abuse may be present within the story. only participate in this challenge if you agree to have your Pearlsona / Pearl oc AND yourself be exposed to such content. if I plan to do something with your Pearl, you will be notified (i will remain in touch with the winners through discord.)  but don’t worry, i don’t plan for the fic to have a sad ending!
