Day 8: notes
Today was a productive day where I made notes for two of my tests coming up - maths tomorrow (see the arithmetic and geometric series formula cards) and then biology the day after (pages and pages of osmoregulation notes because it’s so content-heavy that I had to handwrite them to actually memorise properly!) The colours I used for both notes just happened to coincidentally match, so I stuck them together for today’s photo. Now is it a coincidence that my tests are one day after the other or are my teachers just messing with me?
Donald Trump has been courting the LGBTQ vote throughout this presidential election, claiming he would be the better choice for the community than opponent Hillary Clinton and promising to protect us from terrorism in his Republican National Convention speech. That argument gets harder to believe by the week, as he gives speeches at anti-LGBTQ events, sticks up for homophobic and transphobic legislation and surrounds himself with bigoted politicians and advisers. Now we have a new offense to add to the list.
Trump has pledged to sign the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA), if passed by congress. It was first introduced in the House on June 17, 2015 and would effectively legalize anti-LGBTQ discrimination across the board, including among employers, businesses, landlords and healthcare providers, as long as they claim to be motivated by a firmly held religious beliefs.
It would act to overturn the executive order signed in 2014 by President Obama prohibiting anti-LGBTQ discrimination among federal contractors.
I had this girl in my class and she was considered to be like really dumb. She’d ask a ton of doubts and questions in class, which everybody would consider to be “stupid"and “silly” and even the teachers would often taunt her but she’d never stop asking. But the thing was that she’d almost always top the class examinations and everyone was like???? They all thought she was cheating and stuff and obviously even the teachers were very biased because she wasn’t so ‘smart’ in class, and she was regularly accused of cheating. But nobody could prove that she was actually cheating but the whole class and teachers totally believed that she did. I’m pretty socially awkward so I never really talked to her, but she was leaving school this year and I was genuinely curious about how she was so good during exams and how she didn’t let everyone’s remarks affect her. She always used to sit and hang out with only one girl, and she told me that that friend of hers was severely socially anxious and she’d lag in studies because she couldn’t bring herself to ask doubts in class or ask for help from others. So they had this system where during lectures her friend would write down any question she had, and she would ask them for her. And I was just so touched??? Idk but it really changed the way I looked at people?? This girl endured taunts and jeers and borderline bullying for being “stupid” when she was actually really smart and could easily have refused to ask such doubts for her friend but she did?? And brushed off everything others would throw at her for her friend?? I was just, idk it just really changed me in some way.
Yo @ my fellow New Hampshirites we may be a small state but please please please get out there and make sure that Trump doesn’t get our state! We don’t have a lot of votes but in every poll I’ve seen recently we’re one of the quintessential states for Hillary to win due to how much other states are going back and forth. Go out there and vote!!!
I’m having trouble keeping an updated dash throughout the summer months and would like some new, active blogs to follow to keep me motivated throughout the summer months with my classes – I’ve also had a few messages in my ask inquiring about active studyblrs too, so it seems like other people are having the same problem! :(
follow me and i’ll (most likely) follow back. bonus points if you’re a grad student, preferably med (not necessary whatsoever though!)
