I just got caught up on Castle Swimmer and HOLY SHIT THE REUNION WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED AND MORE!!!

I cannot wait for next season! Now that the two found families have collided we get MEGA FOUND FISH FAMILY!!!

Also I was so pleasantly surprised with the ace/aro rep this season! I already found the hints of backstory interesting but that coupled with the emotional breakdown and fan theory fuel in the last few chapters just made me connect with Neths character so much more. Really well done Wendy👏👏👏

So fans of Anne Rice have probably heard of the new series being made on Interview with a Vampire. I did not have high hopes for this from the start for many reasons. I'd seen so many adaptations and remakes absolutely screwed that at this point it never excites me to hear one is being made. The more I heard about the changes that were being made the more disappointed I was.

I saw nothing wrong with changing Louis's race as it seemed to fit the time period and story. Then I heard about the changes made to Claudia's character and I was pissed. The whole point of Claudia is that she is forever trapped in a child's body while her mind ages. Changing her age to late teens completely erases everything about the character and that entire storyline. It's a pointless change and it takes away the originality of the story.

This last change just made me sad. It recently came out that this series confirms Louis and Lestat's relationship and will heavily rely on sex between them. Now I was actually very happy to hear about the relationship confirmation (I've always shipped them so this was awesome news) but what disappoints me is the sex part. In Anne Rice's series the vampires cannot have sex. Now maybe they changed this because they thought it would draw more people in or maybe it was for representation. Either way it upsets me because this was the perfect opportunity for some asexual representation. It was right there! They wouldn't have had to change anything! To have an asexual relationship represented in something so well known would have been huge! Instead they actively chose to change that part of the lore and its sad. Asexuality is already barely represented and when it is its often poorly represented so to see this choice made when we were so close to something awesome is just...disheartening.

So I'm not the only one who's pissed as hell that Alison straight up assaulted Luther right!?

Like I get that she's been through a lot and for a while I was sympathetic but that crossed a fucking line. I don't care how traumatized you are it doesn't give you the right to disregard consent.

I mean five has been through hell and back! He hasn't stopped going since season 1. While everyone else got a break he just hit the ground running and never stopped yet you don't see him pulling that shit!

I know different people deal with trauma in different ways but once you show such a blatant lack of care for other people I can't make excuses for you anymore. She literally said she didn't give a flying fuck about what Luther wanted and would use him however she saw fit. That shit is fucking disgusting.

I…am shocked. Literally I think I'm in shock. I don't know what to say or how to feel. I keep coming back to the fact that I never expected this to happen, which in hindsight seems a little ridiculous but…I don't know. I guess he always just seemed so calm it made everything seem like no big deal. I've definitely been slapped in the face by reality today and all I'm sure of is this, This fandom will never be the same without you Techno. You have left an empty space that nobody can fill and that space where you should be will be felt daily.

It's true. Dsmp is the most unique Fandom I've ever been in. The sheer variety alone is astonishing!

We can compare most fandoms to rivers. Branching out from the source material but still streamlined to some degree.

Dsmp is the FUCKING OCEAN! There are mini fandoms within this Fandom. You've got dnf, sbi, ALL THE FUCKING DUOS! It's insane how vast it is. If you don't know what you're looking for going in, you'll never come back out!

Not to mention the amount of ways you can consume content. Fanart, fanfic, animations, original music, and that's all without touching the original content itself! Then there's the mini genres within those categories. Like in fanfic for example you have superhero au, royalty au, modern day au, vampire au, ghost au, fucking DRAGON AU AND SO MUCH MORE!

For all its faults the dsmp Fandom is truly an amazing space to be in. The creativity, talent and passion on display is really inspiring and I'm glad to be apart of it.

It honestly made me so unreasonably excited when I saw she came out. To see that representation in someone I've admired since long before I even came out? It was awesome! Anyone who watched her video knows she kept alot of personal details private but just the idea of seeing someone I relate to on the same journey I went on is really nice I guess? It was like one more thing to relate too.

y'know people getting mad about Pride Month is the same as people getting mad about BLM. There's no straight pride for the same reason white lives matter isn't a thing. You're complaining about a non issue. Straight Pride is literally every day due to heteronormativity and white lives matter is a dumb statement for similar reasons. Pride and BLM exist because LGBT+ people and POC are marginalized groups who have to fight for their rights. A cis/het white guy yelling on Twitter hasn't had to fight for shit.

So I've been telling my mom that twilight ain't shit for YEARS! I've been telling her how all the characters(yes including Charlie) are trash and how Jacob is just as toxic as the rest of the triangle due to the assault. I've been telling her Stephanie did realize she had created a monster and still doesn't. I told her how it pushed problematic themes onto its audience and how it had heavily racist and misogynistic undertones. On and on I ranted!

Well this morning my mom comes to me and seems surprised by something. She tells me that she was watching some people on tik tok and YouTube respectively and they brought up some points about twilight that she had never thought about. So I watched the videos and of course it was ALL THE POINTS I HAD ALREADY MADE MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT! One of the guys she watched was even a critique I HAD BEEN WATCHING FOR YEARS!

Now when I say that twilight is problematic and Jacob's a rapist in the making I'm being dramatic but when some random guy on the internet says it she's like

This exactly. I've heard the argument that if someone wants to go on a mass shooting spree they'll find a way. That's bullshit. Yes if someone is determined to hurt someone bad enough they will but we don't have to make it easier for them to do so. We should have already been making it harder for murderers to murder. The fact that an 18 year old who is not even legally allowed to purchase alcohol can legally purchase an AR-15 should speak for itself. It's about creating roadblocks and deterrents for mass shooters. We should have already done this. Hell humanity is so full of apathy that if you make things difficult enough I'm convinced most people won't bother. Even if that's not the case is what we're doing now working? Has anything been working? Obviously not or this would be a non issue so I ask you, what's the harm in trying something new? The most stricter gun laws could do is not work and since we're already there...

More people should tell their governors that they're useless to their face.

On Wednesday afternoon, as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott briefed reporters about the school shooting in the town of Uvalde that left 19 children and two adults dead, he was approached by an unexpected speaker—his Democratic opponent in this fall’s election, Beto O’Rourke. The former El Paso congressman and presidential candidate, who had been waiting silently in an aisle seat in the school auditorium, walked up to the stage and began to challenge the governor.

“You’re doing nothing,” O’Rourke said. “You’re offering us nothing. You said this was not predictable. This was totally predictable.”

He was shouted down by some of the people on stage. One called O’Rourke a “sick son of a bitch.”

“This is not the time or the place to do that,” said another.

“Don’t play this stunt,” Sen. Ted Cruz told him.

Eventually, O’Rourke was escorted away from the stage by police.

Crashing your opponent’s press conference is, as Cruz said, a stunt. Of course it is. But so was the event O’Rourke was crashing, in which the most powerful men in the state assembled at a school auditorium to do…what, do they do, exactly?

We’re all familiar with this routine by now—the elected officials who descend on the scene in their best emergency-response earth tones to bask in their proximity to law enforcement and collectively absolve everyone with power of any responsibility. People like Abbott and Cruz and Ken Paxton and Dan Patrick—the state’s Republican attorney general and lieutenant governor—will emphasize the “tragedy” of what happened and the unpredictability of it all. There were no obvious signs, Abbott said on Wednesday, not long before O’Rourke’s interruption; law enforcement acted quickly, he said, and saved lives; the assault rifles he acquired shortly before the shootings were, of course, purchased legally. They’ll give a few days of defensive interviews about hiring veterans to stand guard at schools. Maybe, in a few weeks, we’ll get “Uvalde Strong” t-shirts.

O’Rourke’s rhetoric on gun control viscerally shifted after the 2019 massacre targeting Mexican and Mexican-American shoppers at an El Paso Walmart. He pushed a mandatory assault-rifle buyback program during that campaign and said at a presidential debate, “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15.” He now says he is “not interested in taking anything from anyone,” but he has criticized Abbott for signing a law that allows anyone to carry a handgun without even acquiring a permit.

Ultimately, the question of whether his intervention Wednesday was polite or not is less important than the fact that O’Rourke is right. The effect, if not the outright point, of events like the one he crashed is to ensure that the right time and the place to discuss gun control never comes—to indulge the delusion that the people who are truly doing nothing are actually doing something. The shooting was predictable, if not in the specific sense, then in the broader one: The state’s and the country’s gun laws enable outcomes such as this by design. If it wasn’t predictable, then why can we keep predicting it?

My sister told me a story that I can't stop thinking about in the wake of all this. When she was in first grade they had an active shooter drill, only no one was informed it was drill. There was some mix up with the codes or something. Anyway the point is they all thought it was real. My sister says she remembers the teacher very quietly telling the class that there was an active shooter in the building and that this was not a drill. She says she remembers hearing screaming and crying from kids down the hall. She told me they all had to put on bright orange bullet proof vests and she remembers thinking that the color would only make it easier for the shooter to spot them. She remembers being scared. She remembers seeing someone walking up the hall through the heavily tinted glass. They kept trying to open the door and my little sister said she genuinely thought she was going to die. She was terrified she would never see me or my mom again.

It ended up being the principal coming to tell them that it was just a drill but it was a little too late in my opinion. That fear my sister and her classmates experience was real even if the threat wasn't and that memory is something she still carries with her.

We have to do better.

Republicans are more concerned with denying people bodily autonomy and keeping kids from learning prejudice exists than doing anything to keep those same kids from being shot by the guns they want everyone to have

They also seem to think that children are not mature enough to handle the existence of non cis/hetero people , but they are mature enough to live with the constant danger of a stranger busting into their classroom and ending their young lives

I saw Jesus today in Walmart. He was buying bagels and a rotisserie chicken.

I don't have fictional crushes, I have fictional "children". I see a character that most people would simp for and I mentally adopt them. Most of the time these characters are WAY older than me (sometimes several centuries) but do I care? Of course not don't make me laugh! I see a character in need of love and support, a damaged and hurt bean and I say MINE! I have done this more times than I can remember and if I did tally up my many fictional kids I'd have enough for a substantial orphanage. I have taken the meaning of mom friend to whole new level.

When I was a (unmedicated, undiagnosed ADHD) kid, like, under 12, my room was a mess all the time. Not shocking.

I struggled keeping it clean.

I struggled getting it clean.

I would sincerely put in quite a bit of effort and be really proud of the progress I made. Then one of my parents would come check and see how I was doing.

"Well, you've still got a long way to go."

That sentence. I was like, 11 when my parents were saying that to me. It was crushing. All my pride and satisfaction with my work was completely gone. All my effort was worthless to them. All they saw what everything I didn't do.

At the age of ELEVEN, I knew that wasn't right. That wasn't fair. I swore to myself I would never invalidate someone's work like that.

Now, at 30, I catch myself thinking 'I cleaned up, but my apartment is still so messy.' and I flashback to standing in my bedroom as a child, hearing those fucking words from my parents.

'No. I wouldn't invalidate someone else's work. I'm not going to invalidate my own. I did good. I made progress.' and I'll list the things that I DID get done to myself.

You deserve credit for all the progress you make.

You deserve credit for all the work you do.

It doesn't matter how much work you have left.

What you accomplish, no matter how small, counts. Even when what you accomplished was taking a day to rest and recharge and give yourself a break.

Never let anyone invalidate your work. Not even you.
