you know what I don’t think that tommy’s actually that cool. I think his hobbies are cool but really the man is awkward and his deadpan humor doesn’t always land well. but so far what from what we’ve seen, Buck is always so smiley and giggly about his little jokes and quips, and I think a scene with the 118 either watching Buck smiling at his phone or when tommy is there in person kind of being like…man he’s not that funny you’re just gone on him

I will never give up on buddie but there’s something about bucktommy that's just making my heart melt a little. Because Buck just discovered he's bi because this guy kissed him and turns out this guy is also so compassionate and soft and so so kind to him. He's patient and he doesn’t pressure him, he’s so considerate and he’s so attentive? And we don't even know much about Tommy but he has this natural charm and it's just impossible to stay unnafected by it. And knowing buck's first queer relationship is with someone as gentle as Tommy, and knowing the two people who mean the most to Buck were so supportive and allowed him to come out in a way that's so safe, it just makes my heart want to burst out of my chest and i'm all for it 💛

No im not “grieving” Buddie, do you know how amazing it is to have queer/bisexual men representation in today’s media? I really think most people's "valid" critiques of steven universe boil down to them taking children's media, especially one's like it with an ethos of deep messages told through abstracts and visual metaphors, far too fucking seriously.

Like I'm sorry but Steven Universe, Star vs the Forces of Evil, and even Avatar the Last Airbender are not the shows that will hang their dictators for their warcrimes and like. I'm gonna be honest you would really understand that if you weren't chasing reality in every piece of media you watch.

Long form childrens content that handle serious topics are still going to chase themes that are pertinent to the lives of children and not the adult world. I know the whole vengeance is bad thing is played out for most people over the age of 12 but like. These mediums can and often do cover the validity of revolution. They just don't dwell on death and violence because they are at their core, children's media that stick to themes. For children.

And like it's not that kids aren't ready for that, it is just almost rarely the mo of network kids shows to paint our realities as black and white, especially when they're supposed to be colorful and fun. And when the main problem you guys have are like "not enough of the bad people died in the end" I feel like. I feel like it's the same thing as saying "Why didn't Luke just stab Darth Vader through the stomach?" Because that's not the story they wanted to tell and that's not the theme they wanted end on.

Idk. Think smaller. Kids seem better at it than grown adults these days. There's this running theme in a lot of kids shows that wow. The weight of the whole world really is on the youngest generations shoulders. And even if violence is a means to an end, resolve and restraint and tolerance are the real answer.

Some stories play with so many abstracts that it just makes more thematic sense for CHILDREN'S content, to end with more tolerance because they operate on such a pure understanding that what these kids are watching. Is fiction.

Oh my god. Anyways that's my little rant. Yall are annoying. Steven Universe and Avatar don't have a "problematic amount of pacifism" you just have no critical thinking skills about what story beats portray themes clear as fucking day. For children.

100 days of writing #11

I’ve been working so hard on so many things that today’s update is just self indulgent and I regret nothing.

Here, I present you: another caswen drabble. ENJOY!

Ricky was into bad pick up lines, and EJ totally hated it. Or that’s what he wanted Ricky to think. He got cranky and faked to be annoyed every time Ricky said them, EVERY TIME. But it was all an act. He loved Ricky’s pick up lines, what he hated was that they weren’t for him.

EJ was a bit possessive when it came to Ricky. They weren’t together, but they weren’t apart either. They fooled around. And more times than one, they ended up making out in some corner. At first it only happened in parties, but after the third time… EJ may have invited Ricky to his house after school… to do some homework. Homework that never happened. As soon as Ricky entered EJ’s room, he was over him, feeling him over his clothes and kissing him deeply.

Nobody knew what was happening between the two of them. They didn’t say anything, and nobody suspected shit.

EJ was head over heels for the skater boy. And he didn’t like it. Who was he supposed to be? Avril Lavigne in an old song? Please… He was EJ Caswell. And he didn’t fall for soft himbos with a nice voice and velvet skin… He did not.

But oh boy… he did.

And Ricky kept messing around with some dumb pick up lines directed to everyone but him. And EJ was getting jealous. Ricky should say shit like that only to him. But he didn’t dare to tell him that. He wasn’t crazy. Ricky would totally make fun of him for that. Nobody made fun of EJ.

Until some dirty chick from another class approached them during lunch time and said:

“Hey Ricky, I lost my number, can I have yours?”

And no. That was a big no. Did she have the audacity to try to get his man’s phone in front of his salad? Nope. Not happening. EJ was not letting that chick have Ricky’s number. He was his.

“Hey Ricky!” That got his attention. Point for EJ. Suck it blonde chick. “Feel my shirt.” He didn’t give him time to think, he just grabbed his hand and put it on top of his sweater. Ricky’s face had confused puppy written all over it. “It’s made of boyfriend material!” The rest of the table fell silent. The tension was palpable.

And Ricky cracked up. He was clearly not expecting it, and EJ felt pride filling his chest. He made Ricky laugh… He did that.

“You are a dork. And you are hella lucky I like you, too.”

And kissed him. Right in the mouth. In front of the whole drama club. Well… no secret no more. And EJ didn’t mind it at all.
