...what is the "sex is just rock climbing" category
It was kind of a joke between me and a friend ("you wouldn't judge someone for having gone rock climbing with a bunch of different people") but honestly the more I thought about it the more I bought into it unironically because:
It is a physical activity done with one or more partners
You should only go rock climbing with people you trust to not let you fall
You should not go rock climbing with someone who is drunk or currently incapable of rational decision-making
Some people get super super super into rock climbing and do not shut up about all the places they have climbed and how many are left on their bucket list and these people are usually men between the ages of 20 and 35 and like it's fine dude I'm glad you're happy but I don't know what most of those mountains even are
While many consider it a fun activity, pressuring someone into climbing when they don't want to (or ignoring their feelings and just dangling them off a cliff,) could cause both psychological and physical trauma
There is no moral value to it whatsoever. Who you have gone rock climbing with (or whether you have rock climbed at all) has no bearing on who you are as a person. Imagine telling someone "it's not that heights make you nauseous, it's just that you haven't found the right person to belay you!" or "you need to save your first time rock climbing for someone special." That would be absurd.
For some people it is a deep and moving personal experience.
historically I have not asked myself "will this aggravate my hip flexor injury" before participating when perhaps I should have đ
happy yuri night everybody
This is a slow fandom zone
None of that "Oh no they bomb-dropped all the episodes in a week 1 month ago, I'm late!" "The tag hasn't been active all week is the fandom dead?" "I only got a hundred shares the first hour no one cares about my art"
Slow down
Take a deep breath and slow down
Fandom is YOU. And me and everyone. If we doodle stick figures for a show that ended 30 years ago we aren't "late" or "doing too little", we're playing dolls in our own time and having fun with works of art that mean a lot to us
You can literally watch and engage with something that aired in 2004 as if it aired yesterday
If the tag hasn't been active for 14 months guess what? If YOU post there, it isn't dead. Literally you can talk about anything you want whenever you want there is no weird law against watching things that people aren't actively talk about
Let's be deranged about stories together
Having a bit of fun making hangers-on for my Necromunda gangs.
Sextus Udo is the rogue doc assisting Hark and Nav (my Locked Tomb themed Escher gang).
Knot Toogrots is a totally normal human fungus farmer.
I actually think this is more interesting than "because tournaments have been running Warhammer culture since the 90s" (it has, mostly, FWIW, but there's More To It). It's a confluence of the rules in 10e, and the post-COVID 40k renaissance
The first puzzle piece is 9e terrain rules were a hot mess. Legitimately confusing and miserable to play with. If the only thing 10e had changed was terrain, it would still have been heralded as a golden new day.
The second is that the vastly simpler 10e rules work really, really well with ruins. Hills, woods, swamps, etc are all basically "ruins but worse".
Then there's the abject failure of 10e to rein in lethality. Turn one, anything you can see should probably die, regardless of what it is. If there isn't a lot of cover, melee armies cannot win. If there is, the game is fair, balanced and fun.
So, we have game that works great with busy terrain, and the default terrain in mechanics - corner ruins - is also cheap to make.
And suddenly the game gets wildly popular. Tournaments are popping up everywhere. One quote I saw this year said there were more tournaments run in 2024 than there were tournament players in 2016!
And they all need to fill 30+ boards with legal terrain, instantly creating demand for a veritable industry of corner ruin makers -mdf, 3d prints, etc.
We must destroy the plague of L-shaped ruins
wait
hold the fuck on
so ok, i was thinking about the "silica's equipment" situation again and realised something
^her own equipment
^the equipment kirito gave her; which to say *kiri just had that on her at the time*
and just... that design
?????! the similarities?! the collar!!! the shape!
and we know kiri explicitly chose the ggo outfit!
that's kirito's style!
oh
and also
while rereading the novel volume for this
???! wait why did the anti-harassment code not go off for this?!
so much going on here
reki what the fuck
explain yourself
Ice cold takes from a Transgender Woman:
Not all Men are evil
Everyone has the capacity for evil
Transgender Men are men
Transgender Women are women
Excluding Cisgender Men from your spaces requires Transgender Men to out themselves if they want to engage (Same for Women)
Anyone can be Non-Binary, there is no "look" or requirement
Non-binary masculine presenting people should be welcome in queer spaces, many are just treated as men and predators
Non-binary feminine presenting people should be welcome in queer spaces without being seen as "Woman-Lite"
yuuki konno is genuinely such an important character to me
like i don't talk about her often but frankly that's mostly because im struggling with how to phrase it more than anything
there's just something about her as a character within the greater narrative of sao
like there's this dumb criticism some people have against sao where they'll call it a power fantasy and kirito an op mary sue protagonist but then there's yuuki
zekken. the absolute sword. this girl whose introduction is simply "she's the best at it". no gimmicks. no tricks. no "buts". she just wins
and this is never challenged
and it can't be challenged ever again, because she dies, even though she never loses
yuuki konno, doomed from birth, optimistic despite herself, despite the world she can no longer exist in. and without even knowing she laid the groundwork for an entire new world of people she'll never meet, but helped create regardless
there's no overpowered protagonist at the top. there never was. that spot forever belongs to a terminally ill lesbian girl who tried to live as much as she could before her time ran out all too quickly
29, including Ted Lasso only because I watched two episodes on the train last week when I had to stand for two hours. Luckily they had subtitles on.
This list was created consulting Year in Reviews, Fanlore articles, user feedback, vintage pinterest posts, and my own knowledge. Don't worry about not seeing the shows in their entirety, vote based on your judgement. Enjoy!
Handmade paints from medieval pigments, and those paints used on miniatures (pics of finished minis to follow) #flyingmonkeybonus #minipainting
not to oversimplify an extremely complex discipline but if i had to pick one tip to give people on how to have more productive interactions with children, especially in an instructive sense, its that teaching a kid well is a lot more like improv than it is like error correction and you should always work on minimizing the amount of âno, wrongâ and maximizing the amount of âyes, and?â for example: we have a species of fish at the aquarium that looks a lot like a tiny pufferfish. children are constantly either asking us if thatâs what they are, or confidently telling us thatâs what they are. if you rush to correct them, you risk completely severing their interest in the situation, because 1. kids donât like to engage with adults who make them feel bad and 2. they were excited because pufferfish are interesting, and you have not given them any reason to be invested in non-pufferfish. Instead, if you say something like âIt looks a LOT like a tiny pufferfish, youâre right. But these guys are even funnier. Wanna know what theyâre called?â you have primed them perfectly for the delightful truth of the Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker
so apparently the illustrator for the sword art online novels, abec, *also* has interviews you can find online about his design choices
and ive got to say
this^ is fucking hilarious
there was a point in time when the official sao light novel artist, abec himself, had in front of him a drawing of kirito with boobs that he then retroactively had to flatten out again
for a brief shining moment my girl was not flat anymore
what do i do with this information
this is the cover in question btw
that suspicious featureless chestplate has a story behind it
ill never be able to look at this cover and not think of this situation now
narnia has actually way too many completely devastating concepts in it that are not explored At All
these are my thotz as someone who has been directly exposed to 2022 and 1966 batman within less than a month: there's a sweet spot between silly/gloomy ways to write bruce wayne, there's unpleasant extremes, and then there's the real extremes that are such weird little freaks that they make perfect sense
eepy ferret gal
call me ignorant but i genuinely donât understand why sports have to be split up by gender.
after careful consideration, i decided that meow meow meow meow meow
You know, for as much as English lacks a few things that Portuguese takes for granted, like an one word formally agreed on plural for âyouâ and two different âto beâ verbs, one for momentary states of being and one for more permanent ones (like, for example. We can differentiate between being busy for a certain period of time and being a busy person in general just going by the verb), you guys really went off when you decided having different terms for baby cats and baby dogs. Like, kittens and puppies? Thatâs SO cute and SO right. Those little things ARE kittens and puppies.
Some more new screenshots from Trails in the Sky the 1st! Can't wait to see my favorites in this new style.
I haven't done a My Warhammers post in a bit, so here's a corner of a Necromunda junkyard. Joined a campaign recently and the guy running it is making a silly quantity of terrain, and I wanted to contribute, so I put together some scatter terrain - market stalls, piles of tires, crates, etc. Checking my pile of random crap, I found a tiny resin TARDIS. I thought to myself "Can't spell WarHammer without WHimsy" and here we are.
As a reminder if you're wondering why Gundam has so many weird names for people and things, this is why.
History Lesson! So, for 3rd edition, in the 90s, when 40k was becoming What It Is Today, GW was trying very hard to market it's toys to teen boys. The biggest problem they had was that kids, as a rule, don't have jobs, and thus the deal was "you need to get the kids to persuade their parents to pay up." And this was, well, the 90s. There was still a back-swing going on away from the 70s, and the tail end of the Satanic Panic. Parents cared about what the kids were up to, in very specific ways. War was fine. But sexy? Harder sell. This is when Slaanesh became more vaguely about 'excess', notably, but it's also when the Sororitas arrived on the field, as warrior nuns. And GW took the decision to say nothing about sex. At all. They weren't "the brides of the Emperor" [nuns are often 'brides of Christ']. They were pure of faith. They were never 'pure of heart' or god forbid, 'chaste', lest some mother have to deal with little Timmy asking what it meant. The Sisters' lore was so de-sexualised the canon didn't even suggest they refrained. Just an absolute void of information. Treated as if it were their opinions on 17th century agricultural practices. Writers (canon and fan alike!) over the years later saw this not as a mistake to correct, but a chance to say "what if the nuns fucked".
Sisters Yuri is just gals being pals, being good squadmates. Kissing each other with tongue is in the Codex
[sagely nod] this is the truth. gal pals. gallant paladins, if you will. I read this doctrine in the Book of Sloppy Style, Volume III, Verse 27. improving morale is an imperative to the pious.
I was looking at the math for one band (KOVEN, they're great, check them out) I like so much Youtube thinks I'm in the their top 0.1% of all listeners. If I listened to them on repeat for basically an entire summer - 8 songs an hour, 8 hours a day, for 90 days - the world's loudest Introvert-Extrovert tag team would have earned $1.15 from me. (Websearches gave me a 0.0002/stream rate currently). That's obviously an over-estimate, even in brain-rewiring obsessions I listen to other stuff occasionally - but you see the point, right? Life-altering levels of love of their music, and I wouldn't even have gotten Katie and Max a cup of coffee each. Buying one of their EPs probably got twice that to them, immediately. You can see why Katie's always on the road doing DJ stuff - that pays actual money.
one of the more bleak things to acknowledge is that if you pirate literally all of your music and then set aside a spotify subscription's worth of money each month to spend on a single pay-what-you-want album, it would almost immediately amount to you supporting those musicians more than streaming does
weh
note* I will not reveal which side I am on until the poll is over to avoid bias
