The TYRANT: the bullying despot, he wants power at any price. He ruthlessly conquers all he surveys, crushing his enemies beneath his feet. People are but pawns to him, and he holds all the power pieces. Hesitate before getting in this manâs way â heâll think nothing of destroying you. The BASTARD: the dispossessed son, he burns with resentment. He canât have what he wants, so he lashes out to hurt those around him. His deeds are often for effect â he wants to provoke action in others. He proudly announces his rebellious dealings. Donât be fooled by his boyish demeanor â heâs a bundle of hate. The DEVIL: the charming fiend, he gives people what he thinks they deserve. Charisma allows him to lure his victims to their own destruction. His ability to discover the moral weaknesses in others serves him well. Close your ears to his cajolery â heâll tempt you to disaster. The TRAITOR: the double agent, he betrays those who trust him most. No one suspects the evil that lurks in his heart. Despite supportive smiles and sympathetic ears, he plots the destruction of his friends. Never turn your back on him â he means you harm. The OUTCAST: the lonely outsider, he wants desperately to belong. Tortured and unforgiving, he has been set off from others, and usually for good cause. He craves redemption, but is willing to gain it by sacrificing others. Waste no sympathy on him - heâll have none for you. The EVIL GENIUS: the malevolent mastermind, he loves to show off his superior intelligence. Intellectual inferiors are contemptible to him and that includes just about everyone. Elaborate puzzles and experiments are his trademark. Donât let him pull your strings â the game is always rigged in his favor. The SADIST: the savage predator, he enjoys cruelty for its own sake. Violence and psychological brutality are games to this man; and he plays those games with daring and skill. Run, donât walk, away from this man â heâll tear out your heart, and laugh while doing it. The TERRORIST: the dark knight, he serves a warped code of honor. Self-righteous, he believes in his own virtue, and judges all around him by a strict set of laws. The end will always justify his nefarious means, and no conventional morality will give him pause. Donât try to appeal to his sense of justice â his does not resemble yours. The BITCH: the abusive autocrat, she lies, cheats, and steals her way to the top. Her climb to success has left many a heel mark on the backs of others. She doesnât care about the peons around her â only the achievement of her dreams matters. Forget expecting a helping hand from her â she doesnât help anyone but herself. The BLACK WIDOW: the beguiling siren, she lures victims into her web. She goes after anyone who has something she wants, and she wants a lot. But she does her best to make the victim want to be deceived. An expert at seduction of every variety, she uses her charms to get her way. Donât be fooled by her claims of love â itâs all a lie. The BACKSTABBER: the two-faced friend, she delights in duping the unsuspecting. Her sympathetic smiles enable her to learn her victimsâ secrets, which she then uses to feather her nest. Her seemingly helpful advice is just the thing to hinder. Put no faith in her â sheâll betray you every time. The LUNATIC: the unbalanced madwoman, she draws others into her crazy environment. The drum to which she marches misses many a beat, but to her, it is the rest of the world that is out of step. Donât even try to understand her logic â she is unfathomable. The PARASITE: the poisonous vine, she collaborates for her own comfort. She goes along with any atrocity, so long as her own security is assured. She sees herself as a victim who had no choice, and blames others for her crimes. Expect no mercy from her â she wonât lift a finger to save anyone but herself. The SCHEMER: the lethal plotter, she devises the ruin of others. Like a cat with a mouse, she plays with lives. Elaborate plans, intricate schemes; nothing pleases her more than to trap the unwary. Watch out for her complex designs â she means you no good. The FANATIC: the uncompromising extremist, she does wrong in the name of good. She justifies hers action by her intent, and merely shrugs her shoulders at collateral damage. Anyone not an ally is an enemy, and therefore, fair game. Give up any hope of showing her the error of her ways â she firmly believes you are wrong, wrong, wrong. The MATRIARCH: the motherly oppressor, she smothers her loved ones. She knows whatâs best and will do all in her power to controls the lives of those who surround her â all for their own good. A classic enabler, she sees no fault with her darlings, unless they donât follow her dictates. Donât be lured into her family nest â youâll never get out alive.
Part of me wants to shift the entirety of Magical Fantasy Adventure Land into the normal world instead of splitting it into a separate realm.
Part of me is still annoyed that this fucker still doesnât have a proper title. Or at least something that sounds better as a place holder.

what is actually hard about writing: describing basic actions such as turning, leaning over, reclining, gesturing, saying something in a quiet voice, breathing, getting up from chairs, and walking across rooms

A writerâs gotta know, but them NSA hounds are after ya 24/7. I know, cousin, I know. If there was only a way to find out all of this rather edgy information without getting yourself in troubleâŠ
Youâre in luck, cousin. I have just the thing for ya.

If you start comparing your writing to someone else's and it's starting to affect your confidence as a writer.
If you are afraid to use words like "said" or "looked" because they've told you they are not good enough.
If you think you should force yourself to make an outline or plan ahead just because you've been told you have to.
If you feel your characters are not interesting or flawed enough, just because they don't fit someone else's requirements of what a fictional should be.
If you are too focused on writing in a certain way to actually enjoy the process of writing.
If nothing you write seems good enough because it doesn't fit certain standards.
If you feel like you are not a good writer because none of those "tips" and "advices" work for you.
if you want to start your novel but youâre not sure where to start, iâve collected a bunch of resources to help you along! this includes characterization, plotting, worldbuilding, etc. @made-of-sunlight-moonlight

emotional wound: your character should have something they believe about themselves that isnât true. (ex: iâm worthless, iâm powerless.) this should start with an âoriginâ scene from their past, where something happens to create the wound. then there are three âcrossroadsâ scenes to brainstorm, where things could have gone right for your character, but didnât due to the wound, and because of that strengthened their belief in the wound. this helps you figure out why your character acts like they do. this is a really important one!!!

worldbuilding template: this is a pretty good template / guide about how to build your world. it talks about geography, people, civilizations, magic, technology, economy, and politics. (you have to download this through email though.)
â„ reedsy worldbuilding template
world anvil: if you really really want to go in-depth â this website is for you. there is so much you can do with this; i canât list it all. history, timelines, important objects, cities, species â you name it, itâs probably on there.
â„ world anvil website
worldbuilding bible: this is just a general list on things to think about when worldbuilding.
â„ ellen brockâs worldbuilding bible
world creator: this website generates an entire planet. you can play around with the amount of land, as well as climate, although iâm not sure since i havenât used it too much. here is the link if needed, though!
â„ donjin fractal world generator
inkarnate: this is a really commonly used one. itâs free and makes good quality maps. you can lay out cities, landmarks, regions, and they even have little dragon drawings you can put on your map.

a tip: donât over-worldbuild! youâll end up spending a lot of time on things you wonât need. focus mainly on the things that you will use!
plot generator: this oneâs kind of nice because you can lock elements of the plot that you like. that way you can get rid of the ones you donât like while keeping the ones you do.

plot cheat sheet: this lists a whole bunch of plotting methods and their basic steps. i would play around with them and see which one works best for your method.

plot formula: this is mentioned on the cheat sheet, but it lists a bunch of beats and scenes which you might want to consider for those beats. kind of fill-in-the-blank-ish sort of thing?

save the cat: a method of plotting also on the plot cheat sheet above, but i wanted to point it out. i have been using this recently by taking a giant piece of paper, laying it out onto the floor, and making a timeline. pivotal scenes go on the right (ex: catalyst), while the bulk of scenes go on the left (ex: fun and games). i didnât really have a website on this, but here is one that explains the beats. (i might make a post about this later, though?)

story planner: this basically has a lot of templates that cover everything up there. the problem is that you get a free trial for a little while where you get as many documents as you want, then you have to pay for it. (although you can get around this by copying and pasting into a doc...?)

ea deverell: i've pulled a lot of stuff from this website to put in this post, but there's a lot more that can be used. Like a lot on basically anything â plot, character, world, outlining, writing itself.

reedsy: again, i've pulled a lot of stuff from them to put in this post, but there's much more. it's similar to the ea deverell one.

Writing in public:completely composed. Writing appears to be going well. Nothing wrong seems to be happening. Author does not appear to be going insane
Writing in private: talks to myself, goes crazy, screams in frustration, squeals in happiness, looks like a nutcase.

rjgames asked:
Hello, I see you already have a post on writing accents, my question though: Is there any other way to write accents without saying from where it comes from (i.e. french)? My story takes place in a fictional setting where Earth does not exist and Iâm having a difficult time with this. Also, I would not like to rely on misspelling a lot, or is that the only way? Thank you!
When you canât say where an accent comes from, your best bet is to give the reader a basic idea of how it sounds. Obviously, there is no way to write a description that everyone will interpret the same way, and thatâs true even if youâre describing the sound of a real world accent. A really great formula for describing fictional accents is this: sound or flow descriptor + dialect descriptor + origin location + regional reference + pronunciation description Example: He spoke with the lyrical brogue of the Tonterosi highlandsâtrilled Rs, clipped consonants, and a lilt at the end of every sentence. - He spoke with the lyrical (sound or flow descriptor) brogue (dialect descriptor) of the Tonerosi (origin location) highlands (regional reference)âtrilled Rs, clipped consonants, and a lilt at the end of every sentence (pronunciation description.) You donât have to do it in that order, and you can do a little mixing and matching. Whatever sounds best. And, even though no two readers will interpret that the same way, youâre still giving them something to imagine when they imagine this characterâs accent. At the end of the day, it doesnât matter if they imagine your character with an accent that sounds English, or French, or Spanish, or none of the above. What matters is that they imagine an accent. Here are some words you can use in your descriptions: Sound Descriptors
Soulful Dulcet Golden Sweet Honeyed Flowery Silvery Syrupy Mellow Broad Flat Deep Sharp Thick Heavy Crisp Round Hard Jagged Throaty Nasal Guttural Husky Breathy Smoky Raspy Chirpy Rich Discordant Sonorous Flow Descriptors

this is from my most recent wip (one that i honestly canât figure out what to do with whoops). the premise is that three kids, one from italy in 1847, one from hollywood in 1952, and one from a space-training school that is in space (sort of like the international space station ig) end up lobbed together in some weird town after they have all had a hand in a murder. ;)

If Wren noticed the word or the touch, he didnât show it. He kept staring and staring, like he could bring Carina back to life if he focused hard enough
Her bony, scorched fingers scraped over bloody cheeks. âI hate you,â snarled Carina again. âNic will never look at you again. Youâre a murderer. Murderer. Murderer murderer murdererââ
She repeated the word, over and over until it twisted itself into meaninglessness, until Carina Valentino and her blazing fury had vanished without a trace.
