and like maybe this is me just being insane, but i think will's love of Dnd comes from an actual love and appreciation for character and story and a love of his friends and his community he found playing dnd. It gave him an outlet, it let him express himself, it let him be brave and when you see him trying so hard to come back to that in season 3, you see he uses it as a way to express what he's going through. But most importantly, Will plays dnd because he loves his friends.

eddie is so rigid with his dnd obsession. He uses it as a way to control things, to (honesty) control people. He uses it to build himself a throne. A LITERAL THRONE SITS AT THE HEAD OF THE HELLFIRE TABLE. The party always played at a square table, they all looked at each other, all equal, all on the same playing field. But eddie, he's different. Even at lunch you see him sit at the head of the table. He gets up and walks across them, he shouts, he draws attention to them, invites the tormenting almost, and i don't think will would have liked the way Eddie was constantly bringing attention to himself and, in turn, hellfire as a whole. Eddie uses dnd to antagonize, to start shit, as a marker of his "fuck it" attitude

Will would not have felt safe in hellfire. Eddie's "forced conformity is killing the kids" monologue is such bullshit. Hellfire would have suffocated will. Not because i think will couldn't stand up for himself or hold his own against Eddie, but Dustin and Mike are so enamored with Eddie, they fall in line and worship the guy, so much so that they are willing to ditch Lucas and his game! Will never would have stood for that. Will would have been at Lucas's game. No DnD party is worth it to him if its not with his party

Are we all just, collectively forgetting this? Like are we just blacking out here? Now yes, this is very byler, but its not just about Mike. Its about Lucas and Dustin too. Its about El, and now Max. Its about his people.

Eddie actively tore apart the party under the guise of being "dedicated to dnd" but the only thing eddie is dedicated to is himself and serving his best interest. At least he was in hellfire.

if you are playing hogwarts legacy and/or supporting it online you are choosing to value a video game over the lives of jewish and trans people. you are allying yourself against jewish and trans people. if people hate you for choosing a video game over human lives you have no grounds to be upset.

The people who get angry at Will for not stepping in when El was getting bullied really know nothing about trauma responses do they??

It was literally confirmed in s2 with Will's episodes that he has a mix of freeze responses and flight responses when faced with things he perceives as dangerous. El's bullies reminded him of his bullies and his brain perceived them as dangerous so he froze and locked up. That isn't his fault. That is just his trauma response. He's not a bad brother for not stepping in and beating up El's bullies. And it's clear how much he loves El and how heartbroken he felt for her. When she had her project ruined, he ran up to her crying and promising they'd fix it together.

Will is not a bad brother. Y'all just don't understand PTSD or anything about trauma and stress responses.

i was watching a deep sea documentary and these underwater cameras found a bigfin squid hovering ominously in the vast, crushing darkness. it was really fun hearing the scientists talk over the footage like “what’s that?” “o-oh looks like a squid haha” like with audible tension til they got a clearer shot. i could hear them trying to logic through and reason “surely that’s not something horrible” in real time in their voices. meanwhile the squid’s just hovering there like an evil marionette master

I think it needs to become common knowledge that "inability to read social cues" can show up as overcompensating.

You don't know how much misbehaviour is allowed, so you become the perfect child who never tests rules.

You don't know if someone is irritated with you, so you'll be extra generous and self-effacing.

You don't know how much is expected of you at work so you'll kill yourself in a minimum-wage job and not notice that nobody else is working like this.

"Hardworking and quiet" should be as much of an autism red flag as "ignores rules and doesn't know when to stop talking". Or why don't we just start using words to communicate so i can stop tracking everybody's eyebrow twitches, that would be great.

Tbh I feel like a lot more trans mlw would want to identify as transhet if yall didn't treat straight trans men like absolute shit. Like, me and multiple other transmascs I know tried to force ourselves to be comfortable identifying as a lesbian because we didn't want to become straight men, friends had told us we better not end up being straight men, we didn't want to lose our queer identity but straight masculinity is seen as incompatible with queerness. So we tried being lesbian trans men. And exclusionists would rather scream "male lesbians are bad and evil" than address and try to dismantle the transandrophobia that leads so many trans mlw to identify as lesbians rather than straight trans men.

(For clarity, not all lesbian trans men identify that way out of external pressure or internalized transandrophobia, and i don't think every one of them should switch to identifying as a straight trans man. I just find it interesting that exclusionists would rather spew hate than actually help trans mlw)

have i made a post about how 7 year old me thought bowuigi was canon because of a dream i had? for explanation, i grew up playing mario and i had a dream where i was in marios house for some reason. i was exploring his bedroom and there were pictures of all his loved ones, lot of luigi and peach in particular. however on his nightstand was a picture of luigi's wedding (mario framed luigi's wedding photo because hes such a good brother) and little 7 year old me who didnt even know what being gay was, thought, you know who makes the most sense for luigi to end up with? bowser.

best description of the wedding photo i can remember- bowser was in a suit and luigi was in a wedding dress being carried bridal style, confetti was everywhere, both of them were smiling, etc

and then I woke up. and the image of luigi and bowser being in love and married stuck with me so hard that i thought it was canon for the rest of my childhood until i talked to my parents about it and had the news broken to me.

People can't understand why Will freezes in s4 when watching El get bullied cuz the show never cuts to Will's trauma as its happening, but they understand crystal clear why El freezes up after hitting Angela cuz the show splices her Brenner trauma in between Mike's accusatory tone being thrown at her.

They're so quick to forget that Will was kidnapped and possessed so he's probably gonna go into shock when faced with bullies who trigger that freeze response. And it's only cuz the show doesn't remind us with flashbacks that Will went and is still going through it. But El's trauma gets visually addressed all the time compared to Will and she's not seen as a crybaby when she's triggered.

We still don't know what Will had to do in s1 to survive for a week in the UD cuz it's never visually shown like how El meets One and how she was othered even in the lab by the other kids. All of Will's trauma besides s2 possession is implicitly offscreen/word of mouth while El's is explicitly expressed onscreen. People sympathized with Will in s2 cuz they saw his pain blatantly, but once s3/4 happened, amnesia hit cuz Will isn't fighting for his life as hard anymore so his reactions are viewed as childish/annoying instead of after effects of being targeted twice.

Compared to El; GA sees her witness bad men kill the 1st person to help her, see her remember she has a sister in Kali and that her mother tried to save her from the rainbow room once, see El feel horrible that Hopper's "dead" and wonder if she killed those kids in s4. We never got to see Will's reaction to finding out Bob died, which was a father figure to him too like Hopper to El. We never see Will's reaction to being a pawn in killing those soldiers.

For s5 I'm glad it's Will-centric cuz last time in s2 when Will was the focus, people cared for him and understood he was a boy who needed comfort.

When I knew Will was gay in 2016, during the first party scene, it wasn't because of some stereotype. It wasn't anything he said or the way he looked or his mannerisms or whatever.

There are just certain behaviors that a queer person can recognise for what it is. That simple act of telling Mike it was a seven behind the party's back told me all I needed to know.

Because as a queer person, I've done that.

I've looked for that extra attention, that special connection, that idea of 'us two against everything else', even our other friends. Especially at that age, when you didn't even know yet what it meant.

And sure, it could be nothing, there could technically be another explanation. But ultimately it's a clear as day sign of young love as Lucas and Dustin stalking Max. Specifically, young queer love, which looks slightly different from heterosexual crushes.

So yeah, when straight people are able to 'tell' whether a person is queer it's usually based on stereotypes, because they could never get it, but that doesn't mean it's the same for queer people. That's ultimately what 'gaydar' has always been - recognising behaviors that make you go "oh they're like me" not the typical "oh they're wearing this" or "floppy hands" or whatever. Not "oh they cuff their jeans!" or "finger guns!".

That's why 'Byler is the gay ship for gay people' - queer people recognise their behavior for what it is. That's why the GA can't connect with Mike.

They can't fathom the fact that Mike wouldn't call Will at all if he had a crush on him. But as a queer person, you recognize how figuring out your feelings often means distancing yourself from them. Both because you're fighting your queerness and because it just hurts to be around them, even - especially - if they are your best friend.
