So like Katy Manning auditioned with contacts and didn't tell anyone how blind she was
But then they made her take them out, presumably because old hard contacts reflected studio lights
and I think, although I'm not 100% sure, that Katy's what really established the trope of the Doctor grabbing a companion's hand to run
and even the Master (gentleman that he was) led Jo by the arm after poor Katy supposedly ran into a tree and knocked herself out
anyway I like to headcanon that Jo was as blind as Katy, keeping her disability a secret so she wouldn't be tossed out of UNIT, but the Doctor just worked with it. He's used to his human friends having various physical limitations, so what's one more or less? He provides a steadying hand when he can, and they manage just fine.
It's part of what the Master finds baffling, although after Jo threw off his mind control he began to understand what the Doctor saw in these creatures despite their obvious deficiencies.
on one hand there's something psychologically fascinating about the doctor, who prides themselves on their cleverness, being enraptured by the master's mind. even when the master is disguised as o or yana, the doctor is immediately drawn to them and is even deferential to them, sitting at their feet and wanting more than anything to learn from them. because as egotistical as the doctor can be, the one person to whom they are always willing to hear from is their avowed enemy.
on the other hand it's like. wow the doctor really might as well have big ol' letters saying TOP ME stenciled across their forehead huh.
The rest, as they say, is history.

I can’t believe the Master went from ‘there’s a little bit of you inside me and I can’t stand that’ to ‘and I’m going to put the rest of you in there too’. By which I mean I can, it is logical illogical progression but oh my god baby she probably would just rail you if you asked.

kinda obsessed that he becomes “the doctor” and immediately brings up one of the darker parts of their past, very in character for the master

Someone on my dash just referred to the Doctor as “Doctor Who” and the Master as “Master Who” I’m fucking losing it.
Like I wonder if the Master sometimes finds out about some of the Doctor’s more questionable/controversial decisions? Like they’ll be digging through stuff in the Doctor’s TARDIS and find out they just keep the Carrionites screaming for all eternity basically in a globe. They’d just be like: “Oh, Doctor! Now that is fascinating! That’s just plain cruel…. I gotta admit, I almost didn’t expect this from you!” *Vigorously shakes the object like it’s a damn snow globe* 😂
catherine tate rocking up to doctor who with a background in sketch comedy and knowing literally nothing about the show; giving one of the most nuanced, tragic performances in the entirety of sci-fi history; and then dipping after one season with an absolutely horrifically devastating character ending is icon behavior i don’t make the rules
