How'd you like your wings: Feathered or Draconic? (Kirby and the Forgotten Land One Shot) (Beast!Meta AU)

Don't even ask me why I'm going so fast with these Kirby One Shots, I'm not sure myself

“Ok, so, next one…”

The sound of something wet and squelchy echoes ever so slightly against the bathroom tiles.

It comes with a prickling, pulling sensation that borders on painful. But truly, Meta Knight’s been through worse.

(This is the best he’s felt in months.)

A big, black feather is pulled off his draconic wings. Dedede just drops it in a pile by the knight’s side, and Meta watches from the corner of his eyes as it slowly descends. He moves his hand away in time for it to fall, neatly, on top of the pile. Then, he rests his hand on it once again.

Despite everything (how long they were attached to him, who they come from, what they represent-) the feathers are still stupidely, incredible soft. He didn’t really mean to start kneading them conciously, but it still happened as the minutes dragged on, and his boredom grew, along with the itchiness, and nearly-painful sensation on his wings.

(He hated himself, just a little, for finding a small comfort in the act.)

(On his other hand, Galaxia glew faintly, reminding him that there was nothing wrong with finding comfort in the small things.)

(He would beg to differ.)

“…Meta?”

“Hmm?” The Knight turned around slightly, trying for his wings to not move around too wildly and cause yet another small overflow on the tub they were in. “What is it, my king?”

“Just, uh…” Dedede lost his train of thought for a second, after being fixed with Meta’s intense stare. The fact that the knight didn’t have his mask to hide his adorable, pretty face didn’t help. “Uh, something’s been botherin’ me for a bit-”

“Do you need me to move my wings?”

“N-no, not that,” Dedede went back to softly scrubbing away at the left over tar on his knight’s wings, as if to make a point, “just, well… was…?” He swallowed around the small lump on his throat. “Was this stuff hot, when they put in on you?”

Meta averted his gaze, ever so slightly. “…It wasn’t boiling,” is what the knight finally settles on saying.

Dedede’s own feathers ruffled up. “…But it was hot,” he reiterates, almost accusatory.

Meta’s hand clenches at the pile of feathers.

Dedede, of course, notices.

“Sorry, I… didn’t mean to sound like I was mad at you,” the king says, softly. “I ain’t, really, I’m… worried still, if anything.”

There’s a few moments of silence, only interrupted by soft splashes of water as Dedede keeps washing his knight’s wings.

“…You should be,” Meta whispers, barely audible. “Mad at me, I mean.”

“Wha- Why?” Dedede asks, taken aback.

“I just- let that… disgusting creature control me,” he hisses out, unable to keep reproach off his voice. “I let it turn me against you all… I kidnapped the Waddle Dees, for stars sake, and- and-!”

“…And to my knowledge, you stayed behind to face a whole army, in order to keep my Dees and Kirby and Bandee safe,” Dedede completed, the touch against Meta’s wings becoming softer still. “You did good, Meta.” The knight huffed, unbelieving. “Really! And, hell, if people had to use aaaaaall the stuff I did while possessed against me…”

“That’s different,” Meta Knight says, quickly.

“Why?” asked Dedede.

Meta Knight stayed quiet.

“No, really, why?” The king leaned over the tub, his arms hugging around his knight. “I’d love to hear your compelling arguments.”

Meta looked up, meeting Dedede’s gaze. “Because I say so,” he replied, finally.

So close to him, Meta could appreciate the amused twinkle in the king’s eyes. The way his grin grew across his face. The warm, bubbly breath that escaped him, as he bit back a laugh. “Well, I say it’s the same,” Dedede declared, “and since I’m the king, my word is law, yadda yadda, it’s the same and my favorite knight needs to stop blaming himself.”

The king ended his little tirade by booping one of Meta’s blush marks with one finger. His hand remained there, hovering over the knight’s cheeks, as he studied it carefully.

Then, a little, affective smile formed on Meta’s face. “I suppose, if that’s a direct order from the king…”

“’Course it is-! Ah…” Dedede fell quiet, as his knight, chivalrous as always, held his hand and softly kissed it. Not satisfied with that, Meta proceeded to nuzzle at it, purring lowly.

 “…I missed you,” the knight admitted, his words slightly distorted by the vibrations going through his body.

Dedede smiled, warmly. “Missed you too, my sworn partner.”

Meta Knight purred louder at the nickname. He let go of his king’s hand, grabbing at his beak instead to guide him into a kiss.

It wasn’t the first time they kissed after the accident. The second Dedede saw Meta coming back, he ran to his beloved, holding him tightly in his arms as he first asked if he was alright, then peppered him with tiny kisses all around while the Waddle Dees ‘awww’ed at them.

This one was different, however. Without the excess adrenaline and longing, it went slower, more careful. It felt, nearly, sacred; a moment of respite between just two of them.

…Or so they thought.

“…Am I interrupting something?” A high pitched voice asked from the bathroom door, causing the knight and king to immediately break away while looking at the intruder.

“KIRBY!”

Upon hearing their less-than-happy voices, the young hero held up the tray he was carrying, almost like a piece offering. “I brought you some food…”

The partners shared a look. They had been there for a while, and would remain longer still. “Fine, come in.”

“But do not forget to knock next time,” Meta Knight chastised softly. Kirby nodded.

The kid left the tray in the ground, near the two of them. Meta Knight grabbed at one of two burgers instantly, while Dedede worked on drying his hands off first.

“Are you… feeling better, Meta?” Kirby asked, trying to not make it so obvious how concerned he was for his friend.

Meta Knight, of course, could see right through him. “I am, Kirby, thanks for asking.” He lifted one of his wings slightly off the tub, showing it to the child. “King Dedede is doing a fantastic job so far…”

Dedede tried to hide how much he glowed at the praise.

Kirby looked between the two, before smiling at them. “Ok then!” He said, cheerfully, before walking to the exit. “Oh! Before I forget!” Kirby turned around, his eyes shining. “The Deedly Dees are doing a concert tonight! You should go if you can!”

Kirby ran out then, while the king and his knight sat in comfortable silence.

At least, until Dedede turned to the other. “Do ya’ think… tonight, we could…?”

“I would love to attend the concert with you,” Meta Knight replied, straight to the point.

Dedede grinned.

“It’s a date, then.”

SO! I know my last post was also about a post that @jojo-schmo made. BUT! This post almost made me drop my last one, cause Adeleine is my favorite Kirby character.

I absolutely love the headcanon that the Ancients are sort of a collection of different races/species with humans being a part of them. I had a similar idea prior to that post, but it feels awesome to know that someone else feels similarly!

This post is basically just a headcanon that Hyness would randomly comment that "OH yeah! Humans are Ancients." But then just never elaborate and let everyone be confused.

Maybe he gives Adeleine a nickname like 'Adure' or something. (In reference to the FL languages word for 'Canvas', which is 'Adureshia') and no one would understand until after the Forgotten Land stuff happens.

It would make sense that Adeleine is the only human on Popstar if humans are Ancients since Hyness is also an Ancient, and he's the only one of his kind on Popstar as well.

Her post also lowkey gave me an idea for how Adeleine could end up on Popstar, and I might actually act on it later on. Yeah, I know, Adeleine is my favorite character, but I didn't already have a headcanon on her past. IT'S JUST SO HARD, OKAY????

Anyways, that's all i got for you folks this time, lmao.

I honestly really liked @jojo-schmo 's mini concept designs of a Beast Meta Knight, and I just had to draw and build on it a bit myself.

I mostly added a few small details to build on what jojo_schmo said about it in their original post, with the bird themed mask and such. Otherwise, the only big thing I added was the FL's language letter 'C' on his pauldron to act like one of the beast pack's members just scratched it in or something.

Hey! If i may ask a bit of a question, do you have any tips for drawing Knight characters or Kirby characters in general? I'm quite frankly shite at drawing most things but i got too many ocs bottled up in my brain to be healthy, so any help is appreciated

Circles. Circles, circles, circles. They’re your best friend when drawing Kirby characters, nearly every one of them is made of circles (and ovals)

For knights in particular, it's again, circles. When I'm sketching them, I usually draw them like this:

Once you have the base down, you just build them from there.

That's about all there is to it really ^^ Just getting the building blocks down and then filling in with details.
