Okay, both theories are very interesting, but I always thought of something completely different.
We’ve been told that Cale is unusual because he doesn’t absorb the soul fragments in ancient powers to make them his own. But what if this is what makes them powerful?
In most fiction, souls hold immense power, enough to rival ten suns, as a TV show I can’t remember the name of once said.
I know it doesn’t make much sense, but think about it: the reason one can’t use the full power of an ancient power is that they don’t absorb the remnants of the souls of the ancient bearers. If they did, the surviving will of these fragments would help the current bearer (Cale) unlock the full potential of these powers.
For example, purifying dead mana, controlling trees, tracking divine artifacts, alerting to danger (“Are you trying to sacrifice yourself?”), etc.
And the reason nobody knows this is that the surviving wills of the ancient bearers, if they decide they don’t like you, will do everything possible to prevent you from absorbing them while also refusing to give you any advice or help.
The only way to avoid this would be to have a very strong will and/or soul or to know this information beforehand.
That’s my theory.
Why were ancient powers in TBOAH not considered strong? Let’s talk about it.
What was that thing in the beginning of the novel that talked about ancient powers not being powerful? And despite people having them, they weren’t used very much in The Birth of a Hero because of that?
Cale had said it before when he talked about the fiery thunderbolt in tboah when Pendrick had gotten it, saying that it was of equal power to like a lighter or something, nowhere as powerful as what they needed it for.
But when Cale got it, it’s suddenly just gods damnation?!?!?? And it had the power to purify dead mana and black magic like this whole time?? That needs to be a topic for a whole other post (I mean seriously, that’s overpowered af, and no one would’ve ever known because only Cale can hear the voices of ancient powers, so Pendrick would forever have absolutely no idea it could do that)
I mean, it could be the way he spent all that money just to give it more power in a way Pendrick would never be able to do because they’re so non-materialistic.
But still, it’s just such a big difference????
The Sound of the Wind, Toonka in TBOAH never used it, again, maybe just because it might’ve been a bit too similar to magic, but he also called it weak and just never used it!
The Unbreakable Shield was just never used period, despite its usefulness and utility.
I have no idea about the Sky-Eating Water because I think it also never got used.
But why does something about Cale make these powers stronger?
They’re not even fully combined with his soul! They’re not at full power!! What the hell???!??
I have a theory about this, but you have to hear me out-
So TBOAH was the story about the creation of a hero through suffering and overcoming adversity, right?
Maybe his ancient powers are so strong because of a, “high risk, high return” type thing?
For example, referencing one of my past posts, every time he coughs up blood from an ancient powers recoil, he should be dying. His plate is weak, it’s made of glass, and every time he uses one last their limit, that glass will get closer snd closer to breaking, that is, without the Crybaby ancient power.
The Crybaby ancient power serves as a cushion, a shock-absorber, for every time one of the other ancient powers tries to recoil against Cale’s glass plate.
Just think of it as, every time Cale has ever coughed up blood, he should’ve been dead.
And of course, Cale, with barely any self preservation instincts, or those mental blocks in his brain that would usually be like “oh using that much would be too harmful, let’s not,” Mr, I can used Instant for 5 seconds and come out looking like I jumped into a blender, who is willing to sacrifice himself at anytime for the ones he loves, will always use the ancient powers past the safe limit.
For taking such a large backlash, one that would, should, be strong enough to kill you, you must be rewarded with something pretty powerful, right? Balance and all that shit?
Does any of this make sense? It’s like 1 am right now
I don't know if I like it or not, but at least now I can stop dying of frustration every time I read "Alver" ( ̄▽ ̄)
I've had this HC for maybe over 2 years now n I've never heard of anyone talking about it here so:
I've always called Alberu Alberu in my head but when I read the manhua, it changed his name to alver so I made this up in my mind to make sense of that.
Alver: name he uses in public, this is what he goes by when he's doing prince stuff. It's formal and it's probably what his father/brothers refer to him as
Alberu: name he uses almost exclusively when he's in his bark elf from. It's the name his mother gave him at birth. I'd imagine this being the name the people closest to him call him! (Like cale, Tasha, choi Han ect.)
Got this because so many people around me have a name in their traditional language and another English name, so it just got stuck in my mind lol
Why does nobody talk about Cale’s tattoos?! It’s canon that Cale has tattoos, and nobody mentions it! (#><)
Why didn’t Ron ask anything? It’s safe to say that Ron knows when the shield tattoo appeared because he helps Cale get dressed. So why didn’t he say anything when it’s obvious that Cale didn’t go to a tattoo shop? After all, if he had, the rumors would go wild (^^#)
And when does the heart appear? And the swirls? And the lightning bolt?! With the latter, it’s obvious that they are ancient power marks, so why is it never mentioned? \\٩(๑`^´๑)۶//
I understand it’s for plot convenience and all, but how the hell does nobody comment on it even once? ヽ(`⌒´メ)ノ
Here’s a list of Cale’s canon tattoos up to chapter 1045:
Silver shield + Heart + Lightning bolt (disappeared after the battle at Mapple Castle and the appearance of the golems) over the heart.
Swirls on the ankles.
Eight water droplets on the collarbones (four on each side).
Well, well, I know it’s not much, but it’s still significant! (」°ロ°)」
I know that in fanfiction and fanarts he has many fans, but it must be admitted that in the canon, apart from being a cat lover and a good butler, he was not much delved into ( ̄ヘ ̄)
He is known to be good at fighting with daggers and a spear, but at no point in the story is he seen fighting and I feel disappointed in that (# ̄ω ̄)
Also, now that I'm rereading the novel and reading the manhwa, I got the idea that Hans could be a good shaman (︶︹︺)
Why did it occur to me? For one thing only, cats (^• ω •^)
If Hans becomes a shaman there is no doubt that his animal companions would be cats, something he would definitely enjoy (づ ◕‿◕ )づ
If that ever became canon I would like to see how he and Jopis interact (O.O)
From my point of view there are only two options: they get along immediately or they fight like, well, cats and dogs ╮( ̄ω ̄;)╭
I would have liked to see him fight at some point and generally have more participation (¬_¬;)
His character has no background, what is his past? Where does he come from? How was he hired? Why did he become a butler? ლ(¯ロ¯"ლ)
I want to know all that and more, even better if he is given a positive character arc, advancement with his abilities, and good development (o^ ^o)
I made a post about Cale's tattoos a while ago and I was wondering, "Does Choi Han have tattoos?" Σ( ̄。 ̄ノ)
Literally his ancient powers are not complete, except for Abandoning your Life the Withe Radish has the other half of Sword of Disasters and Wyvern's Call so since they are not complete they should come with tattoos, right?
Just think about it, Choi Han with tattoos ヾ( ̄O ̄)ツ
He would look incredibly cool, and could definitely make him more intimidating if they ever show up (o˘◡˘o)
I think he would look fabulous with a wybern on his back and a whole sleeve depicting different natural disasters.
Not only that, but I bet you that he could be completed perfectly with a black yong with white stars on his scales that starts on the shoulder where the sleeve is and extends to the back where he fights with the wybern.
Just imagine how cool he would look! (☆ω☆)
When you like a character a bit too much that you write a whole thread of them having a mental illness *ahem* Cale *cough cough*
No one can convince me Cale is not schizophrenic, he is.
UFHUERHHFFNESNNJNFFNSEAIJJJMZOKAKFEMAGNNESGNV!
¡I LOVE IT! (*♡∀♡)
I've never seen many Dark Tiger!Alberu fanarts, but this is definitely one of the most beautiful ones out there! (❤ω❤)
The Majestic Dark Tiger Alberu Crossman 😌
Cale is ultimately the unluckiest person in every world he visits, isn't he? (ᓀ ᓀ)
Unlucky Bastard - 39
Unlucky Human - 5
Unlucky Punk - 2
Unlucky - 3
163 - “Tsk, tsk, what an unlucky human.”
167 - “The unlucky punk is quite ballsy.”
199 - "Well, you have the unlucky punk by your side, so you’ll probably be fine growing up slowly."
224 - ‘You unlucky human, tsk tsk.’
226 - “You really are extremely unlucky. You always bring back such useless things.”
230 - “…Why is the unlucky human laughing like that?”
230 - “…Now I know how you end up being so unlucky.”
257 - “Fine, you unlucky bastard."
267 - “…This unlucky bastard, huuuu.”
274 - “You unlucky bastard.”
276 - “You unlucky bastard!”
315 - “Get some rest. You unlucky bastard.”
319 - “Sigh, you unlucky bastard.”
340 - “Tsk tsk. You unlucky bastard.”
356 - ‘Shut up, you unlucky bastard.’
357 - “You’re saying something I agree with for the first time in a long while, you unlucky bastard."
372 - ‘T, this unlucky bastard!’
372 - “Aigoo, little kid. You should have done as that unlucky bastard told you to do.”
373 - “You unlucky bastard.”
450 - – You unlucky bastard.
479 - 'Well, you have the unlucky bastard by your side, so you’ll probably be fine growing up slowly.’ (it's the same as the one from chap 199, except 'bastard' is replaced by 'punk')
541 - – Tsk. You unlucky bastard.
546 - – You unlucky bastard, it must be hard acting like a little kid.
623 - “You unlucky bastard."
623 - The unlucky bastard must have received nutrients inside the black orb somehow since he is still alive after a few months but he doesn’t look good at all.
632 - – You unlucky bastard.
633 - “Then let me start with how I first met this unlucky bastard and the little kid.”
633 - – You unlucky bastard.
687 - "I’m not used to you saying that you are going to sit out, you unlucky bastard.”
696 - “You unlucky bastard."
697 - “Are you trying to be like this unlucky bastard?!”
755 - Eruhaben said that this was an opportunity that the unlucky bastard made.
757 - “Aigoo. T-that unlucky bastard!”
758 - “That unlucky bastard again…!”
154 - He could then see Eruhaben giving him a, ‘what is this unlucky human saying now?’ type of gaze.
231 - The unlucky human was screwing up his life again.
249 - ‘This unlucky bastard shouldn’t know about that.’
250 - ‘This unlucky bastard truly is different.’
252 - Eruhaben looked toward the unlucky bastard.
254 - However, some of the ancient powers that this unlucky Cale Henituse had in his possession were as strong as, if not stronger, than most strong individuals’ strengths.
256 - ‘Both the little kid and this unlucky bastard.’
267 - This unlucky and sly bastard was also a genuinely good person.
274 - It was hard to figure out what this unlucky bastard was thinking.
472 - That unlucky bastard is always wearing himself out.
473 - ‘The Caro Kingdom should give that unlucky bastard at least something now.’
604 - 'That unlucky bastard has no problem saying such disrespectful things to a Dragon.’
684 - ‘Can Cale, can that unlucky bastard control such a power?’
723 - ‘Did something happen to that unlucky bastard to the point that he needed to use so much of his powers that Raon could feel it from outside the orb?’
756 - He wondered what in the world was the unlucky bastard doing inside, and if he was destroying everything because it was a test about anger.
150 - “Yes, I can understand how unlucky you are. So just trust me, the great and mighty Raon.”
318 - He then mumbled, ‘what an unlucky final year for me,’ before channeling his white gold aura.
347 - “…Cale-nim?” “Unlucky bastard.”
347 – You unlucky bastard.
611 - 'That unlucky bastard. I can at least do that much for him.’
It's true Σ(O_O)
How had we not realized this (@_@) ?! They are literally almost throwing it in our faces (@´ー`)ノ゙!
That being said, do you think any other fanfiction tropes will become canon? (・_・;)
I am firm in my belief that TCF is writing its own crossovers and fanfictions into the story.
A story where what if everyone died except for Cale after the final battle against the White Star? Just check the Wind Island Test.
A time travel fix-it/everybody lives fic? The Sealed God's Test on Earth 2 technically counts.
An AU where the White Star wins and Cale loses, or maybe a world where Cale does not exist? Reading about Kim Rok Soo's past before the apocalypse or when he was a kid? What if Choi Han managed to save Harris Village? You can find all of that in the Sealed God's Temple!
What if TCF had a crossover? No problem! Do you want a necromancer world? A murim world? Or do you want a "Duke of the North Cale Henituse" world? Do you want a Demon King with that, or a side dish of the Divine Realm?
I found this fanfiction, it’s very recent, but I really like how it addresses Record and Cale’s trauma. I also enjoy the one written from Eruhaben’s POV and how it portrays their father-son relationship. (✧ω✧)
I highly recommend reading it! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
I feel like if this game existed all the players would go crazy trying to figure out why Cale changed so much after the update… and there may or may not be a secret route where OgCale's time travel and his switch of bodies with KimCale are discovered. but no one would ever find out because they don't know how to activate it. ┐( ̄∀ ̄)┌
Okay, so you know the like Otome game au for TCF? I wanted to draw something based around that.
So what I imagine here, is that Birth of a Hero is a popular Otome game that suddenly gets a sudden update after a year or two of nothing from the game. The update completely changes one character, Cale. He went from a romanceable minor villain to an un-romanceable mysterious character who actively avoids the player.
If players chose a route in which bad things would happen, Cale would step in and solve the issue and cause one of the hearts Cale has to go black which stands for dislike or hate. Even if Cale should have no way of knowing the player made something happen it would still happen.
The only way to even raise his affection stat would be to mainly leave him alone but if you chose to follow him around than the scene I drew would be prompted to start.
All my random ideas and TCF content that I need to share with someone (o^▽^o)
