But a part of Jason felt grateful.
As the searing pain started to flood from his chest to every molecule of his body, as his lungs started to fill with blood, as his senses numbed and his vision started to blur, Jason felt grateful.
That it was him. It was him and not Piper. It was him and not Apollo. It was him and not the demigod child he met just a few moments ago, who would have been far too young to suffer this type of fate. It was him, and by word of prophecy, that meant no one else would have to die tonight.
The cries of his friends sounded distant. He spent his remaining energy whispering his last request to Tempest, to take his friends as far away from here as the storm spirit can. He didn’t have the strength to look up and see if they made it out.
And as he lay on the broken floor of the sinking ship, his own warm blood pooling around him, his thoughts wandered to his other friends.
To Reyna, with whom he had shared many wonderful memories, who had been a faithful soldier, a reliable leader, an even greater friend, and one of the strongest heroes he had ever met. Jason was certain her name would end up in history books and tales of legend. He wondered if he had done enough to help her protect New Rome when they were both praetors.
To Nico, whom he deeply regretted ever doubting, who had shown Jason that people could be brave and true to themselves in more ways than one, who had been a friend that Jason needed just as much as Nico needed him, and it pained Jason to the end of the earth that he didn’t let Nico know when he could.
To Thalia, his sister, his family, whom he wanted to so desperately let know that he didn’t want to leave her a second time, yet knew she would understand his decision, but still wished he could have spent more time exchanging stories with, and that he could have hugged tighter and longer the last time they were together.
To Coach Hedge, that wild, old satyr, always charging ahead even when the enemy was stronger. Jason was heartbroken he couldn’t live long enough to watch Hedge’s son grow, but Jason’s certain he would grow to be as selfless and kind as his mother, and as stubborn and brave just like his father. He couldn’t have asked for a better protector.
To Percy and Annabeth, whose leadership, strength, and courage he had always admired, who as heroes he was honored to have fought alongside, and as friends he was honored to have made, and his friends at Camp Halfblood, who had taught him so much, and had given him a second life.
To Hazel, Dakota, Gwen, and his friends at Camp Jupiter, who made that place home for him. He thought about the little moments they shared: the dinners, the training, the midnight chats in the barracks. He felt more at ease knowing New Rome is in good hands with soldiers like them, and his faith in Frank as a leader had never once wavered. And in the back of his mind, he knew Hazel would be praetor one day, grieving for another moment that he would be unable to stick around to witness. He was immensely proud of his fellow soldiers, whose strength, bravery, and unity were marks of true Romans.
To Piper, the girl he wholeheartedly loved, whom he never regretted giving his heart to, because she was beautiful, because she was reckless, because she wore her heart on her sleeve, because she never turned her back on anyone who needed her, because she took her world into her own hands. He embraced her flaws, he loved her little habits, and he understood her enough to understand she wasn’t telling him everything, which was okay, because he also saw something in her that he once felt himself - the desire to understand your own identity, to feel secure with yourself, to have something to hold onto - and she deserved the chance to find it, even if she didn’t find it with him. He still loved her deeply, even after she left.
And to Leo, that crazy, wonderful, brilliant boy, the hero he was proud to have ever called his best friend. It had taken Jason all his power not to blow up a fuse and cut the power off for an entire city the moment he heard the news about his return. It had taken Jason twice that amount to look for him everywhere he could. He wished so painfully to let Leo know that they never once gave up hope of finding him, that even after his death they still wouldn’t have imagined ever leaving him out. He wished so painfully to feel the warmth that was so uniquely Leo’s once more. He would have given anything to hear him crack one of his ridiculous jokes just one last time. But even more so, Jason wishes Leo can find peace after returning to a world where they can never see each other again. “Sticking around is my specialty,” Leo once told him. And Jason didn’t doubt it one bit.
Sorry I couldn’t do the same, buddy.
He accepted his regrets. He accepted his mistakes. Moreover, he accepted his fate.
He prayed Apollo would be successful with his mission. He prayed Meg could live longer than he did. He sent out a silent apology and farewell to all of his friends, still holding the utmost respect for them until the end.
And slowly, he closed his eyes and emptied his mind, laying himself to his final rest.
The time it took for these thoughts to fly by would not be over a minute. After that, Jason Grace would exhale one last time, with the memories of the people close to his heart keeping him company up to his final moments as he lay alone in a collapsing ship.
Apollo’s my favorite narrator he’s so utterly pathetic like youve got your demigods from PJO & HOO who are like “ooooh so powerful and broody they’re so strong and so hero-like” meanwhile Apollo’s down here crying when he gets a scrape and the best part is his entire character development is him recognizing how pathetic he is. Yes king self awareness 👑

You can try to demand the network takedown shows that allow this.
You can try to ban your children from watching those shows.
You can even try to take the TV away and demand your children read a book.
But here’s what you can’t take away.
You’ve told your kids their entire life that this is wrong, perverted, and disgusting. The worst part being that your kid is even like the characters above.
But for a brief moment, they were told the opposite was true.
They were told that there is nothing wrong with who they are or who they like.
They were told that this one thing about them doesn’t change who they are.
They were told that in this dumpster fire of a planet, that they are not alone.
And at that moment, they are happy and at peace.
And you can’t take that away.
Again, you can try, and for a while, it might seem like you succeeded.
But your child will always come back to that moment.
Hell, your child might even make stories of their own, featuring characters that can give the same feeling they felt all those years ago.
And kids who will see those characters will continue to make more themselves.
To make others feel like they are heard in a way they never did before seeing some goofy cartoon aimed at children.
And that’s why this isn’t going away.
No matter how badly you want it to.

What if people started seeing the others on like Rachel and Pipers social media and it started a conspiracy theory thing. What r ur thoughts?
THE DRAMA. Wait. I have.... A mini-fic idea. Stay with me.
- Meet Agent Harris, FBI. He has been assigned to Jason Grace’s missing person case. High profile, obviously.
- It's a weird case. Mom mentally unstable. Sister an outcast. Dad in and out. There are a few pictures of them, but oddly enough the guy sometimes looks like two different people? Twins maybe? She won't say. Best guess is that she accidentally killed the kid and hid the body.
- Well, shit. Daughter is gone too. Celebrities, right? Can't control their own children. Probably off to look for her brother. Unlike Jason, there's been sightings of the girl. She's apparently found other runaways to keep her company.
- Okay... So she's fallen completely off the map. Strange. He was onto something. Luckily, he has a new partner to help him on the case. Should be good.
- It's been years and nothing. NOTHING. Officially, it's a cold case, but weird stuff is happening. Harris can't let it go. He's digging up old cold cases and the father? He’s appeared in a couple now. The weird part is that they are all so far in the past. How is that possible?
- It's fine. He got assigned to a new case. A child terrorist? Come on. That's all media hype. It's - wait a goddamn second. That girl and boy... WERENT THEY ON THE RUN WITH THALIA GRACE?!
- The girl? Definitely. The boy? Maybe...? He looks only a little older than when he first saw him. How can anyone age that slowly? And wasn't there another blonde boy somewhere?
- This fugitive kid is actually a kidnapped child. Shocker. Harris wasn't able to get there in time to interview him personally. Local police are useless.
- wtf there is a conspiracy theory blog about Jason Grace? Sightings in California? No way. Still, it’s a lead.
- HOLY FUCK IS THAT THALIA FUCKING GRACE?!?? Why does she look 15??? Shouldn't she be like 19??? Does she just look young??? Is this a cosplayer somehow???? Wtf??? Somehow her picture got leaked on social media and the world is going WILD. Harris is trying to locate her for an interrogation, but he can't pinpoint her location. His partner says to be patient, but what if she disappears again?
- Okay, so the fugitive/kidnapped kid and Beryl Grace’s alleged daughter...know each other? Wait, the blonde girl and that boy who walked weird... They were both seen with them. Is this a... Weird runaway thing? Is there just a group of kids hiding somewhere? They all appear to be in New York.
- NEVERMIND! There's another fucking Jason Grace sighting according to www.GraceUsWithTheTruth.com. The current theory on the website is aliens.
- His partner is great moral support. She's the best and the only reasonable voice here. Thank God she - ANOTHER SIGHTING! Someone posted a picture on Twitter of them all at a school dance. Records show none of them even go to school there - and who are these new kids? They look so freaking familiar.
- No. Absolutely not. It can't be! That was one of the most infamous unsolved cases of all time - and happened 80 years ago! No way!
- Okay, so... There was that di Angelo case forever ago. The building exploded and only the remains of the mother was found. Nothing was left of the children and people infamously believe the kids somehow escaped.
- Maybe they did and these two random children are somehow descendants? That's the only logical explanation, but the resemblance is so uncanny... The school records say they even have the same names. No. No way. Someone out there has a sick sense of humor.
- What. The. Fuck. They know Jackson and Grace too?!?! Jesus - he needs to talk to Jackson’s mom about an interrogation. Wait. What? Wtf Jackson’s mom is that famous sculptor/writer?? HOW IS THIS ALL CONNECTED?!
- Doesn’t Sally Jackson also have a missing person’s report on her first husband? Could all this weird shit possibly relate? Is there a kid mafia going on or something?
- His partner says he needs to relax. Easy for her to say. She's always calm in these situations. Okay, so he's got a missing movie star’s oddly aged daughter, a random boy who belongs in a 1930s cold case, and that one TNZ kid who apparently blows up gyms in his free time. Great. No clue how blondie fits in still. Is she somehow the ringleader? She actually looks kinda of familiar....
- So...the guy who owns Dare Enterprises? Yeah. His daughter apparently knows these people. It's been 9 cups of coffee and he still can't fathom this one out. According to Mr. Dare his daughter and the Jackson kid attend the same school. That explains nothing. He keeps showing up on her social media and now other people are recognizing him.
- Oh God. Oh no. Thalia Grace also appeared in this girl’s social media and now everyone is saying Dare Enterprises are conducting secret experiments on children. Honestly? It’s better than anything he’s got, but getting a warrant might be hard.
- Maybe he dismissed aliens too soon.... Alright, it's fine just - ISNT THAT TRISTAN MCLEAN’S KLEPTO DAUGHTER???! E N O U G H
- His partner needed to take emergency leave. How typical. Apparently McLean is a runaway too. She's with this Leonidas kid and.... No fucking way. It can't be....JASON GRACE?!?!
- The internet is broken. Some conspiracy YouTuber managed to identify this blonde teenager as Beryl Grace’s missing son by that scar on his lip. Everyone is saying it's a Hollywood scam bc their parents were both actors.
- Yo wtf Jason Grace pops up and Percy Jackson has officially been reported as missing. They don't pay him enough for this. He is at least he is positive he has a lead. All of this is centered around New York. He’s positive-

- Piper McLean is ruining his life. She also apparently knows that blonde girl who is literally EVERYWHERE. She also won't stop posting pictures of her and Jason Grace and all these other random kids with vague connections to his case. Three new conspiracy theories popped up. The Dare Enterprises is still the most popular.
- The Grace siblings took a photo together and now his boss is saying the case might be given to the CIA. Over his dead body.
- Nico di Angelo has popped up again. He’s with...isn’t that Naomi Solace’s kid? WHAT IS WITH CELEBRITIES?!?
- They both appeared on Dare’s social media. Damnit. One person recognized di Angelo from the cold case and now the Dare secret lab thing is out. Naomi Solace apparently spoke out to say her son is not friends with a boy from a 1930s cold case, but the public doesn't seem to care. Someone else identified Hazel Levesque from McLean’s social media and now they are saying kids are getting kidnapped from the past and held in some cryogenic chamber.
- According to the most popular conspiracy theorist, the guy who tried to kidnap Jackson that one summer is the one who kidnapped all the other kids and he stores them somewhere. For what purpose? Nobody knows. There's a rumor that one of the unknown kids running around with them is that guy’s son.
- Paul Blofis agreed to an interview. He said people are being dramatic. All these kids just go to camp together. Camp? Really? Is he expected to believe that? Perhaps he’s in on it...

Seeing as Magicians can live so long, how long do you think Carter and Sadie are going to live?
As much as I'm excited for a solo book on solangelo, I really wanted a book focusing on Piper and Jason after the war. I wanted to see them trying to find Leo, trying not to give up, the breaking point where Piper realized this entire relationship wasn't real, the break up, them still being friends and having to remind themselves that they were never dating, and it was all just a fever dream.
I wanted to see them going into that parking lot and being separated, that fear of losing another friend, I wanted to see Jason learning that one of them wasn't going to be around that long, his mindset, him deciding that he wouldn't let Piper die, them fighting outside, Piper knowing Jason was going to do something reckless, and them going their separate ways, because Piper can't bare another friend keeping a secret from her, because she still feels guilty over Leo, and inside she still feels as if the reason Leo didn't tell them the plan was because he didn't trust her, didn't trust them.
The story doesn't have a happy ending. Its a prequel, its everything that lead up to Jason's sacrifice. Piper and Jason were always a tragedy, and I feel like Rick could have expanded on that.

Jason and Piper were actually so tragic
Because they were doomed from the beginning, right? They were never even allowed to decide if they wanted to be together, they had no room to grow to fit their parents molds and yet they played their roles to perfection. Jason’s first instinct is and always will be to protect Piper, he dove into the Grand Canyon despite having just met her AND not knowing if he could even fly. He let everyone believe he broke up with Piper, he took that burden from her, will take any burden from her.
Piper is always forced to watch Jason suffer. When Medea made him fight Leo, when he fought Percy while possessed by the eidolon, when Achelous tried to drown him, fighting the giants in the colosseum, stabbed by Michael Varus. Piper can only watch him suffer for her again and again, but most of the time she can save him. She’s always forced to choose: Jason or her father, Jason or Leo, Jason or Percy, and unknowingly, Jason or herself. She avoids making these choices because she can’t, she can’t choose between two people she cares about, can always find another solution. She loves too deeply to ever choose. So all she can do is watch.
And they play these roles over and over again until Jason’s death. There wasn’t a doubt in Jason’s mind that he would die for Piper that night. And he couldn’t tell her because he knew he couldn’t make her choose. He took that burden one last time.
Even when they thought they were choosing each other, they were just choosing the mold their parents made. The noble sacrifice, the lover. The same roles over and over again until death. Jason decided Piper wouldn’t die. Piper walked away with a scar to match her dead best friend. The sacrifice, the lover.
we need to talk more about piper sleeping gaea. i mean- this girl just told her that men are disgusting and to escape their evil she had to sleep. only with that she managed to sleep the fucking mother earth, a therapy session and voila, no more chaos. i just know that one day piper will be a good psychologist. tbh this girl deserves a lot more love in this fandom.
