What was that supposed to mean in Dutch? O-O If you want some help translating something I'm willing to help. But seriously, what was it supposed to be?

You know Dutch?

I was trying to say that on Thursday afternoon the thought of blankets wore a seasoning. Made the sentence more for the sound than for any logical meaning.

Presenting Potentially Butchered Dutch

Donderdagmiddag heeft de gedachte van dekens een smaakmaker gedragen.

The Dutch language is awesome.

A Wordplay Poem

I take it you already know

Of tough and bough and cough and dough?

Others may stumble, but not you,

On hiccough, thorough, lough, and through?

Well done! And now you wish perhaps,

To learn of less familiar traps?

Beware of heard, a dreadful word

That looks like beard and sounds like bird.

And dead - it's said like bed, not bead -

For goodness sake, don't call it 'deed'.

Watch out for meat and great and threat

(They rhyme with suite and straight and debt):

A moth is not a moth in mother,

Nor both in bother, broth in brother.

And here is not a match for there

Nor dear and fear for bear and pear.

And then there's dose and rose and lose -

Just look them up - and goose and choose,

And cork and work and card and ward,

And font and front, and word and sword,

And do and go, and thwart and cart -

Come! Come! I've hardly made a start!

                                 ~from the Manchester Guardian, 1954

Proof that English is as fickle as they say it is.

And for anyone unfamiliar with old-fashioned British phonetics, hiccough is pronounced like hiccup and lough is "lak." Thank you Merriam Webster.

After the success of last year’s “bake your thesis” morning tea, this year’s theme was “bake a language” - once again raising funds for the Cancer Council.

It was a reminder of just how creative so many of my colleagues are (and also that they’re pretty good cooks!). My contribution was the apple P.I.E. - which like many of the other offerings was a baking pun. Proto-Indo-European is the best reconstruction of the ancestor language of many modern European languages all the way over to languages like Nepali and Hindi.

4 = four lines...in a box shape with two more lines inside to make a pretty window with curtains.

Technically written with only 5 strokes, but who's counting?

Three horizontal lines = 3

Moving right along.

Two horizontal lines = 2.

Pretty straightforward.

A horizontal line means 1.

Easy enough.
