Was Doing Some Light Reading, And Came Across This Paper That Reminded Me Of Discourse From A Few Weeks

Was doing some light reading, and came across this paper that reminded me of discourse from a few weeks back.

Anyone remember when that post was floating around about how "theyfab" was actually invented by transfems to make fun of trans men/enbies who use their AGAB as a shield to protect themselves against criticism? Basically leveraging "oh I'm just a female, I'm so innocent", strawman bullshit?

Then others chimed in about how it actually came from 4chan as a way to mock enbies who aren't "trans enough"?

Well, here's an actual academic source on the issue, to shove a knife in this whole argument, as I'm sure it'll pop up again:

Was Doing Some Light Reading, And Came Across This Paper That Reminded Me Of Discourse From A Few Weeks

Sure looks like the "transandrobros" were right once again

Straight from an actual academic paper

"Theyfab" is infact 4chan lingo made to shit on people "not doing trans right" and isn't some transfem counter culture buzzword like some people claim it to be

The world is a better place with trans men in it. So never apologize for being one.

Don’t let this stupid discourse prevent you from transitioning! Don’t let people dedicated to misunderstanding you have any impact on how you live your life!

Yes, there will be assholes. I know it hurts more when the people who should support you are the ones attacking you- trust me, I’ve been there.

But at the end of the day, they’re not the ones living your life. They don’t know what’s best for you- you do.

It’s all up to you to decide; what being a man means to you, your relationship with masculinity, and what you want out of your transition.

There’s no wrong answer except for the one others try to force on you.

I can’t wait to see who you become!

I keep seeing people say shit like “I’m against transandrophobia because it’s just a way for trans men to excuse their transmisogyny!”

“Using transandrophobia just means you hate transfems!”

And I wish I could say to these people, as bluntly as possible

Transandrophobia isn’t about you.

Trans men talking about their oppression doesn’t hurt you.

A transmasc person discussing their concerns about forced pregnancy and detransition doesn't mean they think trans women have it better.

A trans man saying “hey, I don’t pass easily, and I still experience misogyny!” doesn't mean he thinks transmisogyny is fake and you pass easily.

A trans man bringing up how invisibility means hate crimes against trans men often go unreported doesn't mean he thinks hypervisibility is any better.

A non-American trans man telling you that no, his life is not actually easier than yours, doesn't mean he thinks you are lying about your experiences.

People saying “Hey, I think trans men are oppressed!” does not mean they think trans women are NOT oppressed.

That's a whole new sentence.

Yes, there are going to be bad faith actors and bigots in every community. Transmisogyny is something we all have to watch out for, because it is so normalized in our society. No one identity is exempt from this.

No one identity is uniquely transmisogynistic, either.

You can’t insist every person who believes in transandrophobia hates transfems and is out to get you, specifically.

It’s not about you.

You want proof? Talk to the trans men and mascs who actually use the tag, listen to them for once. Hear their stories about the oppression they have experienced, and, crucially, don’t derail it and make it about you.

You don’t have to like the term. Hell, even if you’re a trans man or transmasc, you don’t have to use it! But don’t police the people who do.

a lot of stuff that is transandrophobic is really similar to butchphobia

do not forget this in your conversations about anti masculinity in queer spaces.

I know people have come up with other words for transandrophobia, but i’m digging in my heels on that term. Yall won’t ever be happy with whatever other word we try to use, because the point is you want us to shut up and not talk about our oppression. I’m not going to waste my time hopping from term to term in an attempt to please yall and get you to take me seriously.

I kind of find it interesting (along with disheartening and downright enraging) how the online queer community is stuck in a constant and endless toxic discourse loop. Each time, we are targeting a new ingroup to constantly harass, bar from spaces, and twitter threads about how this identity-is-so-problematic, and if you support it you're Hitler incarnate and also you're on 200 DNI lists.

Whether it's nonbinary people, "tucutes", xenogenders, neopronouns, asexuals, bisexuals, trans women, trans men, girlfags, lesboys, bi lesbians etc. It's always the same thing.

"We must stop these 'harmful identities' and conservatives will finally love us and we will solve homophobia and transphobia forever if we get rid of boydykes and girlfags! And trust me, when this happened to nonbinary people it was TOTALLY unjustified, but it's totally for a good reason this time!"

Like, do you guys not see this? Am I actually crazy or is it just the same loop over and over. And like in my last post about transandrophobia, if you come to this post discoursing, I'll be laughing in your face for how pathetic this all is.

Y’all, just stop using Shinigami Eyes. TERFs are green, intersex people are red, trans people are red, it’s just not working anymore. I literally had someone bust into my inbox telling me someone was a terf based solely on the fact that her name was red when it turns out she was a staunch anti-radfem and trans herself.

Some advice on learning how to notice transmisogyny.

⚧️ Posts that imply that certain negative behaviors are unique to trans women. For example, claiming that trans women are uniquely transandrophobic (even though transandrophobia can be found in every community)

⚧️ Posts that imply that trans women are uniquely dangerous. For example, claiming that trans women get away with sexual assault because people are afraid to call her out for it

⚧️ Posts that treat trans women as a monolith. For example, implying that all trans women grew up on 4chan, or that all trans women treat trans men a certain way

⚧️ Posts that vaguely imply that a trans woman has done something evil. These posts will use word of mouth as "concrete" evidence for their claims, relying on the reader to jump to a transmisogynistic conclusion

yeah I mean I don't think I can add much more to this, just, use critical thinking and engage in being nuance pilled whenever you see takes online
