how to be less racist

im exhausted from blocking u and sending ur dumbass posts to my friends to talk shit so here’s a tutorial on how not to be a demon. ur welcome white devil

broke: speaking for us

woke: boosting our voices

broke: #im white tag

woke: putting that you’re white in your about page where we can always see it instead of tagging the bi monthly post you rb about racism with this

broke: uwu please let me know if i do something racist

woke: taking responsibility for yourself, monitoring your own actions, being receptive of criticism even if it’s not delivered to you in a nice way

broke: distancing yourself from your whiteness by making white people jokes and talking mad shit abt other white people

woke: understanding that you are not somehow less white than other white people bc you aren’t a cishet able bodied nt man

broke: getting mad when we make jokes abt hating white people

woke: understanding that you don’t get to monitor how we express our anger abt the trauma we’ve experienced at white people’s hands

broke: arguing with us about what is or isn’t racism

woke: understanding that you have never actually experienced racism, staying in your lane, actually listening to us

broke: making racism abt you and your feelings

woke: understanding your experiences with and perspective on racism are dumb and don’t matter, focusing on people of color instead

broke: constantly asking your friends of color to roast people for you

woke: not dragging us into all your messes, handling your own beef, understanding we’re probably tired of ur shit, learning to roast people yourself

broke: reblogging posts abt racism with #let me know if this is ok to rb

woke: not rbing posts if you think rbing it would be overstepping boundaries, contacting op to ask if you can rb their post, developing critical thinking skills

broke: “yeah i dont do this” or “omg i didnt realize that was Bad and i was actively hurting people by doing it” on posts abt racism

woke: reading and comprehending them, reblogging them silently and without commentary, not trying to get brownie points at all times

broke: answering asks from other white demons consoling you after you get called out for racism

woke: blocking those racist bitches, not feeding into the idea that any poc who calls you out is a monster, acknowledging that you fucked up, apologizing, not doing whatever you did again

broke: thanking me for teaching you how to treat poc like people

woke: realizing you should be embarrassed i had to tell you this shit

turn off your adblocker and put the video on repeat. do not skip ads. let it play on loop whether you’re listening or not. mute the tab if you need to focus elsewhere. but let. it. play.

youtube will donate to blm for you.

please, please reblog. for people who don’t have money to spare, this is incredibly important information to have.

#ActsofPride Day 11 - Favorite LGBTQIA+ Historical Figure

#ActsofPride Day 11 - Favorite LGBTQIA+ historical figure

“Each time I leaped I seemed to touch the sky, and when I regained earth it seemed to be mine alone.” - Josephine Baker

Tumblr Creatr @Rose contributed this original work based on today’s prompt celebrating the iconic Josephine Baker. The American-born world renowned Black bisexual dancer, actress, singer, civil rights champion, and WWII French resistance agent rose to fame in the 1920s and quickly became one of the most famous entertainers in her adopted home of France. Pablo Picasso and Earnest Hemingway were also huge fans.

The artist told us a little about why Baker inspires her:

“Josephine Baker was hailed as ‘The Black Venus’ by fellow artists of her time. Though she fled the oppression she faced in America in 1925 to live the majority of her life in France, she returned often to fight for civil rights, speaking alongside Martin Luther King Jr. at the March on Washington. Now more than ever, it is vital to lift up queer Black lives and histories, and Josephine’s is one of pure resilience, love, and absolute joy”

We’re excited to see your favorite LGBTQIA+ historical figures too ♥️

Colorism isn’t just light skin being preferred.

Colorism is calling a dark skin girl bitter to invalidate her experiences.

Colorism is “we’re all Black at the end of the day” to dismiss the disadvantages of darker skin.

Colorism is “dark skin girls are popular now though”.

Stop.

What is actually going on in yemen:

CHOLERA OUTBREAK

the cholera pandemic has been going on since around 2016, and it continues to get worse every day due to the lack of public health sectors and aid, as well as the saudi led air strikes on water systems and food infrastructure

HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

yemen currently has the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world, with over 24 million people in need of aid

FAMINE

the famine in yemen is said to become the worst one in 100 years and it continues to get worse ever day due to the poor funding and saudi intervention (with the support of the us, uk & france). nearly half the population will soon be dependent on aid

CIVIL WAR

it started when the houthis (backed by iran) rebelled against the government and began to seize territories (taking over the capital sana'a). in order to get the houthis out, saudi began bombing yemen and thus the conflict worsened

WAR

saudi arabia (with the support of the us, uk and france) has been bombing yemen in order to get rid of the houthi rebels. this led to the deterioration of yemen's situation, as well as the death of many civilians. they target public infrastructure, water systems, schools, etc

CORONAVIRUS

there aren't many testing kits and the hospitals aren't equipped with treating it. basic necessities such as masks and gloves also aren't available, thus making the situation worsen (especially with everything else going on adding to it)

FLOODS

lately yemen has been experiencing really bad floods that have torn down homes, destroyed food supplies and killed people. these floods have attributed to the spread of disease too

PLAGUE

yes, there is literally a plague now. it seems to have come after the floods, and has people are dropping dead. i think they still haven't found the cause but it affects your lungs. i don't know too much on this issue though, so please add if you have more information.

ECONOMIC CRISIS

since the start of the civil war in 2015, yemen's economy contracted by 50% due to the inflation and devaluation of the rial. people are hungry because of poverty and lack of jobs, and while you could potentially flee war, you can't flee hunger.

BLOCKADE

the saudi military coalition currently has a blockade on yemen's sea, air & land ports which stops aid from coming in. though they apparently eased it a little, it's still there and having catastrophic effects on the situation.

EXTRA

here's more stuff that's happening in yemen

- no water & electricity

- high poverty rates

- food prices are too expensive

- multiple serious disease eg meningitis

- isis & al gaeda have carried out attacks

- corruption

ADDITIONAL NOTES

of course this isn't everything, all of these factors have consequences, like the collapse of public health sectors but i can't fit it all in. please research and educate yourselves on the situation, we're blessed to be in a time with multiple sources

Hi Tumblr

Just wanted to say that the president of Poland Andrzej Duda just signed smthg called “Karta Rodziny”, which basically states that the only true family and marriage is that of heterosexual people, further doubling down on refusing marriage equality and adoption. It will “save children from alien and harmful LGBT ideology” by baning public institutions of mentioning the “LGBT ideology”.

The things happening over in america are horrendous, but also making way for changes for the better. They’re making the whole world have a discussion about racism still woven into our societies.

But please. It’s pride month. My country, my people need this to be on the lips of the world.

Get over yourself. Words on paper about fake people from a fake universe are not hurting you because they exist. Let people write what they want. AO3 exists BECAUSE people like you want to censor freedom of expression.

woooowwwww. im not censoring freedom of expression. im saying that glorifying rape, sexual abuse, underage content, etc. is wrong and ao3 actively promotes it by not having any rules.

people are posting incest fics, rape fics, etc. NOW, if youre going to write a story about incest where you are not glorifying it and you make it categorically clear that incest is wrong and the topic is handled in the correct way with respect to those survivors, that is different and that is tackling a different topic. writing a story where you actually ship two siblings together because you think incest is hot or good, etc., is glorification.

here’s an example ive used before. in my WIP, one of my characters was sexually abused before the story. the character’s rapist is not redeemed, the character is not forced into a relationship with the rapist and so on. in rape fics on ao3, these characters are abused and then are forced into relationships with their abuser, because the author thinks rape is hot or good. RAPE IS A VIOLATION OF BODILY AUTONOMY AND CONSENT. RAPE IS ABSOLUTELY VILE AND GLORIFYING IT LIKE THESE RAPE FICS DO IS ABHORRENT.

im an author myself so i understand the whole freedom of expression. i write stories with serious themes so that i can tackle them and handle them with care and respect to victims and survivors. rape fics, incest fics, etc. are offensive to survivors.

also i find “get over yourself” infinitely amusing. i have mental health problems and often struggle to hold a high opinion of myself so trust me when i say i dont have anything to get over anyway. fiction affects reality and when a platform like ao3 is so big, it is definitely affecting reality.

edit also, the fact that ppl are defending these fics proves the fiction affecting reality thing.

Big Warning

If you see a police car or a cop with a speaker looking thing on it, FUCKING RUN. It’s known as an LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device), a device that, when activated, can permanently damage your hearing and cause serious harm. If you’re too close, you’ll be left in a lot of pain and squirming on the ground permanently deaf. Ear plugs do not work. Unless you have one of those shooting range headphones, you do not stand a chance against them. Again, if you see them pull up, RUN. This is what they look like.

Stay safe.

Marsha P. Johnson

One of the leaders of the LGBT+ movement in America, she was known not only for her strength and bravery as an activist, but also for her boundless generosity. If you complimented an accessory of hers, she’d give it to you.

This is part one in a series of animated portraits I’ve been working on this summer of women I admire!

Cops murdered a black girl in Toronto this week too but Canadians are too up their own asses about how we’re “Not the racist ones! That’s only America! We’re the nice ones :)” to acknowledge it or do anything about it

Maaaan, where were all these White folks during the past 8 years that Black Lives Matter has been protesting? Because, honestly, this shit is irritating and infuriating.

Why do you care now?? What took you so fucking long to give a shit about us?? What have y’all been doing while we’ve been suffering at the hands of cops and your people? What have y’all been doing while we’ve been getting gunned down in broad daylight? What have y’all been doing while we’ve been fighting, crying, mourning, and dying for our people? WHERE 👏🏾 THE 👏🏾 FUCK 👏🏾 HAVE 👏🏾 Y'ALL 👏🏾 BEEN?!?! 👏🏾

Some of y'all only give a shit about looking “woke” and “progressive” to Black folks and your White counterparts, and it shows. Y'all need to cut that shit the fuck out. You only hurt our cause when you show your ass like this. Allyship is not allyship when it’s performative, and even if you’re an “ally,” you’re still an oppressor. And y'all need to realize that.

We don’t want another George Floyd. We don’t want another Tony McDade. We don’t want another Ahmaud Arbery. We don’t want another Breonna Taylor. We don’t want another Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland, Tamir Rice, Philando Castile, Rekia Boyd, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Natasha McKenna, Samuel DuBose, Alton Sterling, Aiyana Jones, Laquan McDonald, Jocques Clemmons, Deborah Danner, Terence Crutcher…. We want justice. We want change. We want a future for ourselves and our children. We want to be able to exist without fear, without pain, and without our lives constantly being threatened. And we want y’all to do your part and work to dismantle the system that was created to harm us.

We are so tired of Whites sitting around doing nothing while our people are dying. Sharing posts in support of us and the movement is not enough. Signing a petition or two is not enough. We need y’all to call out your White counterparts for their racism and work on your own racial biases as well. We need y’all to listen to us when we talk about the injustices we face and learn from it. We need y’all to listen to and uplift our voices. And we really need y’all to be actively engaged in destroying everything that works to destroy us.

Do better, dammit, or don’t bother getting involved in our movement at all.
