Marithyk Ry’Anauk

Marithyk is Kyral’s younger brother by 4 years. Since his brother’s departure from the Andorian Imperial Guard, Marithyk had been fiercely protected by Kyral, but also very much encouraged by him when he expressed his interest in a scientific field, which Kyral believed to be safe. When he decided to follow a specialisation in xenobotany, it became clear he would have to work on planets after his schooling on Earth, the planet on which the relocated after Kyral’s Ushaan duel and his entry at the Academy, and that was far less pleasing to the older brother.

He had an ever curious personality, with a great enthusiasm for any plant life, from its biological composition, ideal terrains, chemical structure and even symbolic meanings to various cultures. His general demeanour made him seem naive and unassuming, but his brother’s Ushaan and following months of fear on Andoria before they left for Earth, along with Kyral’s constant near paranoia made him very aware of the dangers of the world.

As a result of being very sheltered by his brother, he had a deep longing for freedom of choice, which translated in his desire for pursuing sciences and space explorations in his domain of xenobotany. He was especially interested in rare flora, hoping one day to be able to analyse one sample of the botanical specimens grown in the Genesis Cave on Regula in the second phase of Project Genesis.

After his brother’s departure as the Eridani’s First Officer, he began joining exploratory science vessels, and even returned to Andoria for the first time since he was 10 years old.

Marithyk was introduced in the third season of Star Trek Eridani, when he became a commissioned xenobotanist on board the ship, but he was mentioned beforehand by his brother Kyral in many instances.

Dr. Malachi Cohen, ship psychologist

As the ship’s psychologist, Dr. Cohen had one of the most important jobs on the Eridani. At least, that was what he told reluctant patients. He was known to use a direct approach, being a very good listening ear and an expert at encouraging self-reflexion and the development of proper coping mechanisms among crew. A very pragmatic man, he did not believe in space madness or other superstitions, which he often joked as being ironic, given that he was a practicing religious man. Inside and outside of his work, he tended to use a lot of sarcasm, using it to diffuse the atmosphere as well as blowing off steam when needed.

As a psychologist, it was his professional opinion that everyone could benefit from counseling and therapy, and he attempted many times to convince even the Vulcan crew members to attempt it at least once, proposing a logical approach reminiscent of the teaching of Surak used by mind-healers in Gol. It was one of his greatest sources of frustration on the ship as Captain Saavik and Sopek repeatedly refused.

While being a friendly person, his unique line of work made him stand apart from a lot of the crew, mainly due to patient confidentiality, and he struggled with that loneliness. Despite that, he felt too fulfilled by his work on exploration ships to change careers and opted to consult a fellow therapist himself via holocalls.

Nurse Anise Freeman

Born and raised in San Francisco, Anise Freeman started as a paramedic and trauma nurse, before gaining further certification at King’s College in London, England. She then returned to her home city and joined Starfleet. Between her career and studies, she had two husbands. The first passed away not long after their marriage, and her second divorced her as their relationship did not work out, with Anise still being distraught at the loss of her first husband.

Professionally speaking, she was a very level-headed nurse, with a stern, but gentle demeanor. As head nurse of the Eridani, she can be quite strict about certain procedures. She and Dr. McCoy worked very well together, employing a good-cop, bad-cop procedure with more reluctant patients. Like many nurses, she was very devoted to her job and neglected self-care, frequently using her time off to indulge in drinks.

At the start of the Eridani's 5 year mission, she was 36 years old. Family-wise, she had a younger brother and a nephew she loved very much, Alonzo.

Ensign Terrance Riley, tactical department

Son of Kevin and Niamh Riley, Terrance Riley was born in 2274 in San Francisco, but spent most of his summers in Donegal when he was growing up. As a teen and even a young adult, he was a bit embarrassed by his father’s big personality, but grew to be more accepting of his heritage and family.

During his time at the Academy, he often was Sopek’s “human studies club” fact checker, not by will but rather due to the Vulcan’s insistence. A meek and mild mannered boy, he tended to be pushed around easily. Despite a certain annoyance with Sopek’s attitude, the Vulcan also defended him from bigger bullies in the optic of “conserving the club’s fact checker”, which created a certain respect between the two. His demeanor came in great part from growing up learning not to complain about things and not asking for help, as he has many siblings. His interactions with Sopek inadvertently taught him to stand up for himself.

As a tactical officer, he was a very quick thinker, and easily came up with strategies on the spot. Captain Saavik often liked to hear his ideas in times of crisis.

He became an ensign in the tactical department at 22 years old on the Eridani for the ship’s five year mission in 2296.

Lieutenant junior-grade Wane Perry, navigator

Born in 2272 on the colony of Ajilon Prime, Wane grew up near the border of Federation and Klingon deep space. They went to the local naval academy on the planet, before setting their sight on Starfleet and its more advanced fleet of vessels. Due to Ajilon Prime’s proximity to Klingon space and frequent Klingon visitors, Perry spoke a variety of Klingon dialects, a skill that became often useful on away missions involving the Klingons.

They studied navigation and command at Starfleet Academy, and shared a few classes with Demora Sulu. They were assigned to the Eridani in 2294, serving under captain Bowman as a lieutenant (junior grade), was promoted to lieutenant- senior grade and earned the post of main navigator in 2296 when Saavik became the ship’s captain. At 24 years old, they are among the younger crew members, and often show a prankster nature during ship downtime. Due to their close work posting and time at the Academy, Wane and Demora became very close friends.

Lieutenant junior-grade, Demora Sulu, helmsman

Daughter of Captain Hikaru Sulu of the U.S.S. Excelsior, Demora Sulu was born on March 24 2273. A bright and enthusiastic young crew member, her family ties made her close with many members of the crew of the NCC-1701 Enterprise. Her father, of course, but also Lieutenant Pavel Chekov, whom she considered as an uncle, as well as Nyota Uhura, who was named as her godmother. She was a close friend to Anton Pavlovich Chekov, and was secretly a bit disappointed that he decided to pursue a career in the junior ambassadorial corp rather than Starfleet.

After graduating from Starfleet Academy in 2293, she was assigned as helmsman of the Enterprise-B on its launch. Having been on board during its disastrous rescue attempt of the El-Aurian ship and accident with the temporal energy ribbon was a very difficult experience for her. Following this event, Saavik also got closer to Demora, having only briefly met her at gatherings of the old Enterprise crew that they both happened to attend.

Not only is Demora used to feeling like she has big shoes to fill due to her father’s success, but this experience at the helm during such an accident made her lose some confidence in her skills when she was assigned as helmsman of the U.S.S. Eridani as a lieutenant junior-grade in 2296, aged 23. Captain Saavik, having been a helmsman herself not so long before, often tried to be reassuring or to give words of encouragement that Demora is doing the right thing. As the mission of the Eridani progressed, she became more confident in herself, her skills and the path that she wanted to take.

She quickly developed a close friendship with navigator Wane Perry, whom she had met at the Academy and shared a few classes with.

Her father taught her fencing, and she liked antique weapons. In her quarters was also a small habitat to a neutered pet tribble, gifted by her aunt Nyota.

Lieutenant Elliot “Stocky” Stockton

Elliot Stockton, nicknamed “Stocky”, was a lieutenant and operation officer, as well as transporter chief during the U.S.S. Eridani’s five year mission. Aged 48, he was a mature person, with a very reserved personality, and who’s general demeanour came out as very fatherly. He also was a father of eight, of whom he was very proud and happily showed pictures of to the crew. While quiet, he had a way to make everyone feel safer when manning the transporter room.

He began his career in diplomatic security, working in the domain for years before switching to Starfleet and joining the operation department. At this point he worked at Headquarters, making it easier to be close to his wife and start a family in San Francisco, rather than accompanying dignitaries over the galaxy.

With his children all a little older, he and his wife both agreed it was time to go back to space, and he applied as transporter chief and operation officer on the Eridani.

Well liked among the crew, he often sparred with First Officer Kyral and Lt. Commander Teki, and tried to get Terrance Riley to join them many times.

Reposting My Boy

Lieutenant junior-grade Sopek

Sopek was born to a high standing Vulcan family, due to his mother, T'Pring, being a part of an historically aristocratic clan and retaining these ties despite her marriage to Stonn, a member of a more humble family. This upbringing in ShiKhar’s high society and status as an only child encouraged his haughty and vain personality, in that subdued, high-class Vulcan way.

Due to their own experiences with arranged bonding and the social fiasco of the Koon-ut Kal-if-fee, Sopek was not bonded as a child, with T’Pring refusing to force her child’s mind to be tied to someone he could not choose himself, for his own logical reasons. Many elders of his clans disapproved of this choice, but Sopek was confident that he would be able to secure a bondmate in case he should undergo Pon Farr before having found someone.

A fairly talented telepath, he enjoyed showing off with people as a young child.

As a teenager, he became a very big fan of Spock, in all the irony that he was his mother’s ex-betrothed, and against his parents’ wishes, he joined Starfleet at 17 due to how much Spock inspired him. He completed the science program in the fast track, focusing the astrophysics speciality with certain tangential studies, graduating in two years.

During this time, he also started a club for Human Studies, in an attempt to palliate his lack of knowledge concerning human references, behaviours and media. Staying at the Academy longer would most likely have helped him more, but in his stubbornness he maintained that he could uncover these concepts through logical means. Each semester, Sopek coerced a human student, mostly Terrance Riley, to review the club’s findings and grade them. This research was not very conclusive, and by the time that Sopek was assigned to the Eridani at 19 as a lieutenant junior-grade, he remained fairly ignorant about human culture.

At Starfleet, he did not share his parent’s or clan’s name to avoid plummeting his chances of getting assigned to the Eridani due to Captain Saavik’s close connection to Spock and the fact his own mother incited kal-if-fee on him.

His posting in Dr. David Marcus’s science team came with a learning curve about behaviours, and his egotistical attitude was taken down a few notches during his time on the Eridani.

Dr. Tuyết Duong

Born and raised in Vietnam, Tuyết Duong was an apt doctor and neurologist. She studied xenobiology and attended the College of Medical Sciences at the Tri-Planetary Academy. Her skills caused her to be commissioned by Starfleet in a planet-wide medical crisis, and following that event, she kept working for them in various sectors. When planning out the medical crew of the Eridani, her name was on the listing of possible medical professionals, and Dr. McCoy vouched for her, having read her paper in neurology and heard of the events in which she provided medical aid. As such, at 34 years old, she was a doctor on the Eridani.

She was very sociable, easily adapting to the many medical crews she worked with, and especially caring toward those around her. Despite all of this, being a commissioned doctor with no real field training by the Fleet left her feeling quite useless on away missions, because outside of providing medical aid, she could not defend her fellow crewmembers or herself effectively or contribute to strategic planning.

Lieutenant Lila Velann

Lila Velann was a Betazoid, daughter of diplomatic aides who brought her along travelling with them on various systems. Loving the opportunity to encounter new people, cultures and planets, she began training to enter the diplomatic corps of Betazed. Through these experiences, she learned over 20 languages and came in contact with various cultures. From a young age, she showed signs of intense telepathic and empathic abilities. These abilities caused her to become overwhelmed as she met dishonest, hostile or treacherous diplomats and politicians, and she could not keep the calmness and grace expected of a Betazoid diplomatic aide. Her reactions ruined an important negotiation and she was expelled from the training in the diplomatic corps.

That event turned her life’s plan upside down, and she quickly had to choose a new career. She entered the University of Betazed in applied politics, but her diplomatic failure became widely known among her classmates, and they began berating her for it, considering how many of her peers had parents or people they knew also involved in that negotiation. Unable to take the pressure of their frequent bullying, shamed and humbled, she transferred to Starfleet Academy to pursue in xenolinguistics and communications. She took a rapid liking to this domain and was at the top of many of her classes, allowing her to get a posting on staships from the age of 18.

She was assigned as Eridani’s head communication officer in 2293, and was 25 years old at the start of the five year mission in 2296.

Through her studies and the discipline of the Academy, she worked hard to conform to the genial and unassuming manners that had been expected of her since her early childhood, and by the time she began working on the Eridani, she had become a professional and a much more mild-mannered officer, but the fiery element of her was still vibrant and alive underneath that calmer side she developed. To manage her struggle with her overwhelming telepathic and empathic abilities, she often turned to Betazed religion and meditative techniques.

Lieutenant commander Kendi Bofane Teki

Kendi Bofane Teki was a Bantu man, born in the African Confederation in the Congo region. At first, he trained in the armed forces there, and won several marksmanship competitions, before being offered a post and recruited in Starfleet.

At the Academy, he served as a wilderness survival instructor and combat instructor, and was known there as the quiet teacher who would reveal that he knew many old folks tales and legends around the campfire during the final nights of survival camping. After that, he took an assignment in the U.S.S Korolev for 3 years, climbing the ranks of the security department. At 37 years old, he was given the choice to be a department head on a deep space mission or working at the Academy to reform the training of security crews, and chose to become Head of Security on the U.S.S. Eridani.

Commander Simon Masters, Chief Engineer

Son of NCC-1701 crewmember Charlene Masters, Commander Simon Masters was the Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Eridani during its five year mission. He was 36 years old at the start of the mission and also held the title of Second officer.

A very creative engineer, he was highly regarded for his excellent technical knowledge of the ship and a thirst for innovation. Albeit being skilled in his domain, he often felt unworthy of his posting, due to a mistake he made on one of his early on-ship assignments as a cadet, during which he made a mistake that cost the life of one of his classmates. On the ship, he was a very easy-going person, and enjoyed passing by the science labs to discuss ongoing research with the team of department head David Marcus. He also liked getting involved in the newest, more-mechanically inclined science projects of the department, and would happily work on additional safety measures in the lab for specific experiments. While sociable, he would sometime retreat to the rumbling of the engines and echoing jeffries tube for more menial maintenance as a way to unwind.

Commander Kyral Ry’Anauk, First Officer of the U.S.S. Eridani

Kyral Ry’Anauk is the eldest son of Kisharn and Vi’al Ry’Anauk, who were both part of the Andorian Imperial Guard. He has a brother, Marithyk, who is younger by three years. As a child, he planned to follow in their footsteps after their death and serve as well. At 14 years old, a fellow Andorian pupil declared Ushaan as a way to avenge his father, as Kyral’s own parents were his commanding officer during a fight on the outskirts of Andorian space. The duel was disputed and later annulled before the death of either participants when said rival grabbed Kyral’s brother to use him as a human shield. While the challenger was penalized and removed from serving as an Imperial Guard, this event left Kyral with deep emotional scars, as well as physical ones, prompting him to leave his training and set his sight on safer options for himself and his remaining family, as he feared that others could still hold vitriol due to the actions of his parents in the field and refused to endanger Marithyk because of it. He endeavoured to keep his little brother safe from troublemakers and any ill-meaning people, sometime to the point of overprotection.

At 18 years old, he joined Starfleet Academy and moved to Earth, spending 4 years on the command track and building his stamina to compensate for his higher Andorian metabolism compared to humans. His combat instructors often praised his qualities as a fighter, and encouraged him to continue working to combat the exhaustion that would quickly settle in for him in hand-to-hand combat. Kyral had a hard time admitting to weaknesses of any kind, and put a lot in effort to palliate that difficulty.

Due to the mental impact of his traumatizing duel, he often had to consult with psychology specialists at the Academy, despite his reluctance to do so.

After graduation, Kyral postponed assignments to ships or far from Earth for a long time as Marithyk went to study xenobotany at the University of Princeton, to remain close to his brother. Only once Marithyk pushed him to take up field assignments did he truly start to move up the ranks, getting assigned to the U.S.S. Hornet until becoming a commander and being transferred to the Eridani for its five years mission under Captain Saavik at 37 years old.

As per Starfleet command’s request, he was required to consult the ship’s psychologist on a regular basis, given that it was his first deep space assignment as First Officer. He did not like these sessions and how vulnerable they made him feel. He was highly critical of ship psychologist Dr. Cohen, but eventually grew to respect him.

At the start of the mission and for its first few years, he had a hard time connecting with Captain Saavik, but they eventually fell into a rhythm and came to an understanding as a command team.
