Reading Khaled Hossieniâs books when I was younger makes you love and appreciate what Afghanistan was before the civil war and the rise of the Taliban. To see and hear what else is happening rn in Afghanistan is heartbreaking, because it feels even more personal when you know what Afghanistan was. That is the power of literature, it connects you to cultures and real lives across the world.
Please keep the people of Afghanistan in your thoughts, and share, share, share. Women and children (particularly girls) will be affected first. They will die. They will leave in a terror filled life, in an open prison. They will be raped, brutalized, forced into submission and executed for any little mistake. Donât stay quiet. Donât absolve the ones at fault.
Donât be quiet about Afghanistan.
