Roses Cantina
You’re in a cabin with your lover.
He sits in a cozy red chair
next to the fireplace lit just for you.
You can barely hear it crackling
as you stand in the doorway.
Looking outward to the cold night air
nothing is seen but darkness.
But you know if you kept walking
light would arise sometime, somewhere.
Although you can feel the fire behind you
it doesn’t keep you quite warm.
You wish he could make a bigger fire
so you’d be content.
He wishes you would shut the door
and stop letting the cold air in.
Instead you remain
half way out the door,
never knowing if the warmth you long for
exists in front of
or behind you.
