It's an inherent theme in this entire series.

Grooming.

And no, I don't mean sexually. Although that is a topic I'll try and talk about. I'm really gonna try and make sure this is coherent, but it's me, so don't expect much.

Lemme point out some obvious examples-

FINALLY. I FOUND THIS POST.

I had reblogged it and added it to it (I was @asagewitch05) and FINALLY. I loved this.

I was thinking about the last comics that came out, and... I have two thoughts that have nothing to do with each other, but I'm going to mix them up here anyway.

First, It makes perfect sense that Dick h has the blood type that can give the most, but receive the least. (Empathy: It means you give blood until there is nothing left to bleed).

A long time ago, I had read a fic where Bruce commented on this, actually. I don't remember the name because it wasn't from ao3, but I want to look it up again sometime.

Dick told Bruce that he wasn't his son (because he wasn't adopted), but when something happens, and Dick needs a blood transfusion, Bruce is the donor.

Clark and Bruce are talking, and Bruce tells Clark that there is only one person in the League who can donate blood to Dick... Bruce himself, since they both are O-

He tells Clark that Dick has more of his blood than John Grayson's running through his veins. That's his kid, his son.

Which brings me to my second thought, which is that Dick's parents, according to the new issue that came out, had him training 10 hours a day from the age of three.

A typical workday is usually 8 hours a day, and many adults find it tiresome.

Dick has been training 10 hours a day since he was 3 years old.

And he seems to think this is okay, or something to be proud of.

Also, there's another comic where Dick says he sometimes wishes he was just a kid, watching the show, not being part of it.

And it's terrifying to see how this is always overlooked, how his situation is romanticized. Like, there's talk that Bruce should have done better, that he shouldn't have let a kid take such risks, that if he loved him he wouldn't have let Dick be Robin...

What about his biological parents? Mary and John?

I firmly believe that his parents loved Dick, I really do. But I also think they are simply terrible parents.

Sure, at that time it was normal for children to work in circuses with their parents, for acrobats not to have safety equipment... But the Graysons were known for going further. For their extremely dangerous stunts.

And Dick trained that since he was 3 years old.

Even in the older comics, where it's not specified that he's been training since that age, even if it had been since he was 7 or 8, it's still horrible. He was a kid. He should have been among the children in the crowd, not up there risking his life.

Shit, his parents should have used a net just to have a chance of surviving, to live for their son.

Maybe the trapeze act was their way of showing love. Maybe it was all they knew. Maybe they just wanted to share their life with their son.

But still, Dick shouldn't have been exposed to that. What if he was the one who fell, not them? How would they live with it?

Also, what psychological consequences did Dick suffer? They are always attributed to Batman, but were they really due to his time with him?

Sure, being Robin meant doing your job well or dying... But being an acrobat did too.

Dick always lived with the thought that if he does something wrong, he will die, that someone he loves will die.

It's no wonder he's a perfectionist, as much of a "control freak" as Batman himself.

It would also explain many things, such as the type of response he has. When you face a dangerous life of constant stress, your body loses its ability to react normally to stress, even if it's because of small things like an exam or something even less important. Adrenaline is pumped anyway, because your body recognizes the situation as a survival situation... And it makes you addicted to adrenaline.

Damn, even his heart stopping in the last issue makes sense if we could connect the dots.

They're two totally separate things for two separate comics, I know. Just... Damn.

this trio has SO many inside jokes. Most of em date back to the dickbats era

for example, whenever Dick would annoy her/do something she didn’t like/she just wanted to bully him, Steph would always go “What the fuck, Richard” Without fail.

Eventually, Damian started doing it too

and because it’s a vine, they can get away with saying it in costume

And they just..,never stopped.

Steph & Damian

those two are SO mean to each other. Like to the point where everyone thinks they HATE each other. They don’t. In fact it’s the opposite. They ADORE each other, they just express it through rampant sibling bullying and making comments that would provoke actual, physical violence if anyone else said them.

Steph, Cass & Duke

the prank war CHAMPIONS. Whenever they work together, they always win. To the point that the others will actively attempt to sabotage their alliance so they have a chance.

Whenever someone is like “Isn’t it weird that Steph and Cass (a couple) hang out with Cass’s brother so often?” Steph will spontaneously materialize to their exact location and hit them with the “Do we have a problem here?”

Cass & Jason

these two have a genuinely hilarious dynamic. They don’t get along for the LONGEST time, but even when they are in their “If I have to spend any time alone with this person it’s on SIGHT” era they are VICIOUSLY protective of one another.

Like. Jason has just straight up murdered somebody for making a plan to kidnap Cass.

And Cass once mauled Scarecrow for attempting to mock Jason’s death and subsequent villian/antihero arc. He still has a scar from her goddamn teeth.

Duke & Babs

oh these two have an fun dynamic. Duke idolizes her intellect, but is a little intimidated. Oracle, nore than any other Gotham vigilante, is untouchable. Few people even know if she’s human or not. I think her ruthlessness worries him a little.

Babs on the other hand? She would LOVE to mentor him. Like she looks at Duke’s genius and rubs her hands together. She’s also fascinated by his powers. And also kinda wants to like. Put them under a microscope.

However…she’s also a touch…confused, maybe, by him. She’s incredibly experienced, been in this business for YEARS—and yet Duke occasionally manages to throw even her for a loop. It’s part of why she wants to teach him.

bbg, i know how it feels (personal experience with that kinda thoughts). but i'd suggest this;

any time you wanna hurt yourself, count in numbers.

I like the number five, so i count by fives. five groups of five. count it, tap my foot, my fingers, clench my hands to fives.

five and twenty five. i count by them to try and just distract myself.

How do i not start harming myself one day? Out of a weird curiosity? I'm scared of that idea the most bc that 'try' won't stop and my own actions and thoughts will manipulate my personal beliefs and the limits I'm trying to set- both for my mind and actions.

But seeing and learning others losing against themselves hurts me so much. I don't have a strong personality. I'm trying, for months, to not get a reflexive answer to stressful moments as the mere words of 'i wanna kms'- just so i dont get used to it or don't get affected by it. And yet now those words are what escapes my mind during any kind of a breakdown and im trying to not think like that. İm still trying to not think like that but idk. İm scared. It hurts me so much seeing people hurt. I hate this world :(
