SAFE HAVEN AU (yes i’ve already heard about it and watched the movie with you but just more pls), vet fic, and andreil night drives!!

Thank you for the ask! Even though I have made you watch it with me I will still offer you some Safe Haven content (honestly if I've made you watch Safe Haven with me there's no going back we're best friends from then on).

Spoilers for the movie Safe Haven?? Idk if I need to do that but this is your warning if you haven't seen it there is an actual twist so like don't read this if you genuinely want to watch it.

Safe Haven Au

One of my favorite WIPs! Idk why I love this movie so much but honestly it's probably cause I watched it a lot as a child and can now project Andreil onto it. Anyways, into the plot. I'm just assuming y'all have seen it because otherwise we'd be here for ages. Oh and some relationships are changed and I feel like you can guess where as I explain who is who. So Neil is Katie and Andrew is Alex which I feel is pretty obvious. Nicky is Lexi, and Aaron will be Josh which again.. if you've seen it you know the vibes. Wymack will be Roger which I think will be ridiculously funny for the lead up to canoeing scene. Bee will be Jo because the potential™. And of course Nathan is Kevin. Also Kevin is Rhett. And Abby will be the Ivan's owner.

The plot stays pretty much the same with some minor changes like the kids being replaced with Nicky and Aaron, Bee being Jo and Nathan being Kevin. But even then their roles are staying the same it's just the relationships that are changing? This au works to well is what I'm saying. The biggest change will of course be with Bee being Jo. I think she'll end up being a co-owner of the shop with Wymack and will have adopted Andrew and Aaron at some point, and Nicky will either also be adopted or just like live there with his cousins because he can (maybe post-Bee?? I'll have to think on this more apparently). So Andrew will take over her spot as co-owner and the story stays the same from there. It's really more backstory that will be a kinda off-hand mention (e.g. beach scene) than a true plot point because if you've seen it you know that her character up until the end reveal doesn't involve any of this.

I don't actually have anything written for this it just all exists in perfect vivid clarity in my head. But maybe I'll have a piece soon and can post it separate if anyone is interested?

Vet Fic

This fic kinda has it all for some of my favorite fluff tropes. It's a meet-ugly (meet-angsty??) strangers to neighbors to friends to lovers. Basically, Neil works as the night receptionist for a 24/7 emergency vet when Andrew runs in one night with a fast-fading King (or Sir, undecided) after she's attacked by an animal. They manage to save King because I'm not horrible and Andrew is taking care of her at home when he notices someone moving into the long-vacant apartment next to his. That someone being Neil who very quickly becomes invested in King's recovery because why wouldn't he be, he worries about emergency patients all the time and finally has the chance to see how one is doing. Of course, King immediately falls in love with Neil when he comes over to check in and Andrew slowly begins to as well. Queue inevitable angst because yeah and then a soft sappy ending like always. Here's a piece from it:

Andrew was walking into his apartment building when he spotted a moving truck parked at the curb. Hopefully whoever was moving in was nowhere near his apartment, or at least knew how to take a hint when met with his blank glare. Fate seemed to hate him however, because when he stepped out of the elevator the door to his neighboring apartment was propped open and surrounded with boxes. Great. He tried to unlock his door quickly to avoid meeting them but again, fate hated him. Just as he was about to push his door open he hear a startles gasp then, “King Fluffkins!”

Odd. That was definitely not his name. He turned to his new neighbor prepared to ask what the hell was wrong with them and how they knew his cat’s name.

He found the nurse from the vet—Neil, his memory supplied—looking at him with wide eyes. Now that his mind wasn’t clouded with worry he notices that he is very attractive. Dammit. Fate was so fucking with him. To late he realized how long he had been staring and forced a response from his lips.

“My name is not King Fluffkins.” Andrew deadpans. -

Andreil Night Drives

This is an idea I've had almost since I read the book, it's just a short little fic based off of the song You Won't Be Here Again by Rainstorm Society. It's my favorite song to drive to at night/early in the morning and I think it works really well for their night drives after nightmares or when they can't sleep. There isn't really a plot it's just them together with the vibes of the song.

Skam France S3 Au

This au came about from me and one of my best friends just absolutely losing our shit over the piano scene (found here) and then going oh my god make it Andreil. It just kinda spiraled and it was my first multi-chaptered WIP! I need to rewrite quite a few scenes as most of it is done (there's about 2 chapters left) but I had yet to edit it or really add in the Andreil aspects for most of the early chapters. So it's hopefully close to done? Idk but I would really like it to be the first chaptered fic I post. The piano scene has been written and I still love it very much so I'm excited for everyone to be able to read it! There isn't much plot to explain cause it's kinda just the plot of the season with some changes to fit Andreil in. Oh also, if you want to watch it you can watch the season separate from the first two!

Witchcraft Andreil

Another fic that me and a friend came up with! Unfortunately they are no longer active but I still want to finish it and maybe see if they'll reappear. It's all based on this one textpost that basically goes "disgruntled goth that keeps answering the door like "no I'm not the witch, he lives over there" and pointing across the street to a dazzling pretty boy waving enthusiastically" but make Andrew a plant witch and Neil a necromancer who specializes in pets. So Andrew is just trying to run his little plant shop and help grandma's with their dying gardens and people keep showing up with their dead/dying animals and like what is he supposed to do?? What do you say in that situation? So he just silently points to the obnoxious Necromancer here! sign across the street and resigns himself to the fact that no one cares to read when their pet is dying.

That is until it's Andrew's pet that is dying, as in one of his very loyal pet crows being rushed into the shop in the hands of one redheaded necromancer. Apparently, his cat has an affinity for hunting birds, but he promises he can fix it. And he does, and all is well, so Andrew returns to his plants and his pointing. Until the cat starts to appear in his shop. There's a twist in there somewhere that I obviously will not reveal so I'll just promise to finish it eventually.

I love imagining Neil and Andrew like 10 years into their relationship. Like when the ‘nothing’ gets real and they deal with what comes after the honeymoon stage. They’re 30 something and like:

Neil: *suggestively stretching in front of andrew* wanna rinse of with me? I’m a little sweaty after my run…

Andrew: *spoon deep into a pint of Ben and Jerry’s*. Give me a minute

Neil: the ice cream will still be there later….

Andrew: so will you…

Neil: are you fucking serious ?

Andrew: *keeps looking between Neil and his pint* I’m thinking!

Can you write an angsty raven!neil fic? I will love you 121%.

I will start this off by saying, write whatever the hell you want. I don't have to interact with it. But also really think long and hard about why you are writing them that way. Why do you need to change these characters so completely to enjoy them? So yes write whatever you want, but also think a little when you do.

This is all in reference to this post for context. Now I will rant.

I hate to be mean but I think some of you need the actual slap in the face that is there is no justification for this whatsoever. Whatever "oh he's overcoming his trauma, oh he's friends with her because this and that, oh it's because he's allowed to now," bullshit you want to come up with is worthless to anyone who has any grasp on the characters and their personalities.

Neil avoids Allison for pretty much the entire series. He barely even likes her. The only time they interact in canon is when it is actually necessary for them to do so. The one time they're ever alone is when he has to ride with her and they literally do not say a word to each other. He never seeks her out, even for the coverup in TRK. Wymack sends him. On top of all of that, she is also the person who outed him and Andrew to their entire team against their will not even 2 days after a very traumatic event solely to win money. And you can argue that they don't really care because they don't acknowledge it at the time, but I will calmly direct you to the scene at the cabin when it is brought up again at a much less traumatic and stressful time and both him and Andrew react very negatively to it.

Neil also hates shopping, and gossip, and drama. So tell me where exactly their personalities and interests line up. And listen I know that she is a deeper character than that but I am speaking solely to these situations where they also tend to erase her personality too. And I am all for hc's where she cuts his hair or her and Nicky (who canonically enjoys it) shop for him. But please explain to me where exactly "Neil's bestie Allison picked him up for a goss sesh and then they went to the mall." fits into canon. Literally one example. AND very very importantly. Neil isn't gay, he is demisexual. GBFs are already a harmful stereotype, so maybe don't erase an ace characters identity and his canon character in general to fit him into the role of one. Like seriously what the fuck.

Getting into that more, since when has Neil been this hyperfeminine allo "sassy bitch" who blushes when someone looks at him. I will say this, I think a lot of us in the fandom recognize that it has grown a lot in the last year and there are a lot of young fans now who probably should not have read it. But they did, and now they're here. And now Neil goes skirt shopping because they fit his slender waist and long legs oh so well. Oh wait, Neil's 5'3. Oh wait, Neil's a man. Oh wait, since when did he ever express anything but anxiety and discomfort about showing his scars. Sorry, I just forgot that the entirety of canon and Neil's characterization exists for a second there. On that note, the word blush (or any variant) doesn't exist in canon outside of describing 1) exertion (you know from the sport they play that requires strength that might, just maybe, mean Neil is muscular) and 2) Maria Hemmick being a horrible person. And then I read one of these posts and someone looks at Neil and he flushes red. Since when. I feel like I don't need to explain how that is ooc.

In that same vein, what is with the characterization of Andreil as a whole in these. Andreil is just such a special ship. They go against pretty much every relationship norm. They fit so well together because they are so similar. Neil is just about as emotionless as Andrew throughout the books in case anyone forgot. But because they've turned him into this hyperfeminine caricature Andrew now needs to fit into the strong manly uncommunicative toxic boyfriend who will Defend At All Costs and like mf growls now. People don't growl so what the fuck is with that. In reality, Andrew lets Neil handle his own problems. Because Neil can handle his own problems. I don't know why I need to stress that when it is canon and obvious. He doesn't need Andrew to throw someone out the window because they looked at his scars wrong in the crop top he and Allison bought. As you can probably guess he doesn't because that would never actually happen if he were in character, but I'll reiterate it here anyways for the sake of ranting. They also fucking talk to each other. I don't know where y'all got the idea that Andrew never asks questions or like says words to Neil when he is so serious about consent (as he should be) and half the reason anyone bet on them being a thing in AFTG was because Neil is the only one he talks to most of the time.

On to other topics.

I like Matt in canon. He's an interesting character who has overcome a lot. But I cannot stand him in fanon most of the time. He literally acts like the fucking dog from UP half the time and that is the only way I can describe it. Yes, he is friends with Neil. Yes, he is also kind. You know what he also is? He's a recovering addict. He's a flawed person just like every fox. He's a traumatized person just like every fox. He has an actual personality and life outside of being nice to Neil. Maybe consider giving him that next time.

KevAaron just kinda spontaneously appeared out of the depths of hell and I don't know how to shove it back in there. I have met young fans that ship it exclusively (yes, instead of Andreil). I'm fairly certain people just went "ah here is a character we haven't tried to ship Kevin with yet" and ran with it. They never once have direct dialog in the entire series, despite living together, being in the same group, being on the same team, and partying together. Apparently they "have similar trauma" but like guys.. if that is the only link you have for a ship I have very very many questions. Especially if you're going to bash KevThea for the same reason (I don't ship KevThea either pls don't come for me I'm just making a point). If you feel the need to break up KateAaron's happy, healthy canon relationship to shove a character into an mlm ship that has absolutely no bearing in canon and basically requires it to be written ooc please reconsider that ship. 

I will end this by saying, in the nicest way possible:

If you need to change so much about the characters to enjoy them and the series, did you really enjoy the series?

medicated andrew makes my heart ache. i think that andrew probably tries not to look back on that time - he can’t do anything to change the past, and i wouldn’t say that he’s made peace with it but he kind of,, accepts it? is resigned to it?

when he was on his meds, andrew couldn’t truly control what he was doing, and dwelling on that loss of control would do more harm than good. his choices and free will were stripped away, and he became a prisoner in his own mind. he might look back on that time with flashes of rage, but he’s pretty good at smothering his emotions, and i’d imagine he’d repress most memories associated with that time, because looking back would be unproductive and pointless

in the future, i could see him looking back on those years with some bitterness maybe, but i don’t think he’d really see the point. the past is the past for him, and he made no promises of revenge for the torture his meds put him through, so i’d imagine that he would generally just opt to completely ignore it. the only exception i could see to that would be in therapy sessions with bee when he was first taken off his meds to see how he was adjusting

okay so in ch 3 of tfc andrew says they should throw a talent show to see what else neil can do. basically what i’m getting at is,, imagine if the foxes actually had a talent show ??? oh my god the Chaos that would ensue-

i can’t help but wonder how many times mary called neil stupid, given that that’s what he thinks of all his decisions

Since my recent post about demi Neil erasure has gotten much more traction than I thought it would, here's a small post about how it feels and felt to realize I was demi because of Neil and then subsequently see tons of people disregard it.

(this isn't a call out or discourse post, just some personal stuff I'm airing out to hopefully help this stop happening)

It was kind of a big moment for me when I realized that like, Neil's thoughts on romance/relationships throughout the books wasn't just someone finally getting it right but someone writing from an ace spec perspective.

So seeing people (and literal friends of mine) say, "Well he is basically gay because he's dating Andrew," or any similar phrase hurts. On top of all the internalized shit I still have to work through seeing that sets me back so far. There is literally no justification for it. He is demi, it is not just a widely accepted headcanon. It's a confirmed canon fact, and he and very importantly every demi and ace spec person in this fandom deserve to have it treated as such. It erases such an important part of his character and the plot of the books. It erases his emotional bond with Andrew.

We rarely get ace spec rep in novels, and to finally have a demi character and see it taken away by people in this fandom because it's 'just easier to call him gay' really fucking sucks.

TL;DR: Neil is demi, he isn't 'basically gay'. It isn't 'easier' to call him gay either. If you want to get into semantics it's one extra letter to type. Calling him anything but demi hurts demi fans more than you may realize, and I hope this helped at least one person understand that.

The sloping curves and sharp edges were dark and striking, and he thought that they might be nice to look at if they didn’t make his stomach drop. His foster families always averted their eyes at the sight, pity etched into their faces. Every time a new tattoo crept across his body, Andrew wanted to tear it off. He didn’t want them to appear in the first place.

He hated knowing that somewhere, he had a soulmate that was being hurt, and he couldn’t do anything about it. He hated that his skin was permanently stained with ink that he had never asked for. He hated flowers.

lots of fanfic makes nicky out to be completely clueless and hyper but in the books, neil says he thinks that nicky has to act more outgoing to make up for the twinyards antisocial tendencies, and he’s actually pretty perceptive - normally realizes as soon as he makes someone uncomfortable, could tell when neil was anxious near the end of the kings men leading up to raven game, just genuinely tries to help others and be a good person but he has to put up an act all the time

neil canonically doesn’t like being on higher floors because it makes it hard to escape. neil also canonically spends his nights hanging out on a roof with the boy that everyone calls a monster. this speaks VOLUMES for how much he trusts andrew and how much he’s grown as a person

young nathaniel so small and scared when he has to run away in the middle of the night, even though he’s leaving his monster behind. young abram confused and wanting to go back and play exy with the first almost-friends he ever made, but instead running forever and never able to slow down. young no-name boy answering to many, learning new backstories for every new city and wishing his life was anything like the people he pretended to be, anything other than his reality. young neil hurt and grieving and all alone in the world, no one but himself to protect him, looking over his shoulder for living nightmares and roaming monsters that want to hurt the boy who only ever wanted to play exy.
