This is just some whatever thing I wrote on Discord the other day cus sometimes I need to get my monthly Spider-Man rant. I was just doing a lot of thinking on the state of things for Spidey.

It feels weird that out of the last 4 Spider-Man movies, 3 of them are based around the multiverse. And the one that isn't pretends to involve it for like the first half! Spider-Verse was a cool novelty to me as a kid with stuff like Shattered Dimensions and the finale of the 90's show. When Miles showed up in the Ultimate cartoon I thought that was frickin sick, but now its like… I've had my fill. This was never really what people liked Spider-Man for, but now it's like all he gets to do on film. And beyond that it feels like a lot of media is missing out on his appeal in other ways too. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is basically a riff on the MCU Spidey so I get why the similarities are there, but I wasnt clamoring for another Spider-Man story where he has the support of a billionare. It's Norman so it's atleast tied more to actual Spider-Man characters and I'm sure it wont go well for Pete, but it's still a thing that happens that you just have to deal with for atleast a few episodes. You still have to sit there and watch a teched out Spider-Man being given a whole bunch of suits by someone else. It's just been so long since a good Spidey cartoon came along and I just want some new shows or movies that are lil more classic ya know. I've been on a journey to read all (or atleast most of) The Amazing Spider-Man and there's still so many cool stories that they haven't tried or that could atleast use a second chance. It just feels like there arent a lot of good alternatives for solid Spidey storytelling coming out at the moment. You have the Ultimate comics and then I guess thats it. I'm sure Miles is doing well, I just haven't kept up with his shenanigans.

Also Spider-Man should be funny again. They make him corny and awkward, but he should be a funny guy! He shouldn't be the kinda dude to make a pun and then say "heh… nailed it". Give him his sauce back.

A game I worked on is on switch!.... right? well...

So sun haven has been out for a while. Other people have posted about these issues (like my friend kyle and my partner meg a few times)

But heres the thing. It just came out on switch and it still doesn't have credits. It's been out of early access for over a year and playable on steam for even longer and still no credits anywhere (unless you backed the game on kickstarter yay).

And this sucks!! It sucks to have this really nasty feelings about this game. It sucks to be suspicious about WHY there arent credits. It sucks to see the developers looking to hire more and more people and I'm sitting here thinking "are these potential hires okay with never being credited for their work?"

And this isn't just about me and my work. I've mostly moved on from this. But there have been *tons* of people who worked on sun haven despite what they might try to pass off in their discord. I've spoken with a lot of people who worked on the project. Theres a lot of amazing skill that went into this game and it's just sitting there. Who made this game? Well pixel sprout studios! Who works for pixel sprout studios? Good question.

I think that you think you are right, but nobody is immune to propaganda. Not me and not you. We are, all of us, being taught everyday to forgo our humanity in favour of upholding systems of oppression that hurt everybody. Systems of oppression that have had centuries to sophisticate their methods, the sneaky trap is letting you believe you are somehow too clever to ever buy the cruelty they are selling you.

I apologised sincerely to my best friend this year for a conversation we had in a car a year ago and I want to tell you about it because I think you could learn something from it.

We were talking about rape culture and I was going off about how women suffer under patriarchy. He mentioned that he has been sexually assaulted before as a man and it was by a woman. And do you know what I did? Probably what you if you are a rad fem would have done, I scolded him for trying to make a discussion about the suffering of women about him.

I turned to my best friend, a man I love, and fucking dismissed him out of hand when he was talking about something traumatic that happened to him. I put my anger at a system that hurts everybody above having a shred of humanity for the person sat next to me.

He graciously accepted my apology and said he understood why I had reacted that way. But we also talked about how his social media algorithms are constantly trying to shove him into alt right echo chambers and how careful he has to be because it can happen so fast that his feed starts to change.

And that is also what happens to EVERYONE. It is happening to you. Algorithmic radicalisation is a known phenomenon. Do you know who actually benefits from you hating any group of people for something about themselves they cannot change? The structures of oppression that you want to dismantle.

I mean this kindly because I understand how you might have wound up here and that it's hard to try and consider that you might be wrong, but you are being manipulated. Misandry leads to transphobia leads to racism leads to misogynoir. To you it might sound ridiculous, but I promise you that the minute you start losing humanity for the people you share the planet with, every structure of oppression that you are against will sink it's claws right into you. There is a reason that Joanne Rowling now attacks cis black women, she fell into the trap that you are going to fall into if you don't start trying to change.

Rad fem ideology is one of the funnels into the alt right. Neither me nor you wants you in two years time to have lost your humanity and be parroting talking points that you right now would find abhorrent because you get trapped in an echo chamber.

And yes, people are going to be mean to you over this even if you try to unlearn it because you're going to make mistakes. Your job is to recognise that you have caused hurt and you cannot expect everybody to just forgive that. Your job is to recognise you are not safe for some people and that is not going to change overnight.

The patriarchy thrives when you start cutting off your humanity to the people around you, do not let it win. It thrives when you start practicing gender essentialism, the same concept that the patriarchy runs on.

If none of this is sounding worrying to you as a rad fem then I as a stranger on the internet am not going to change your mind, so you are fully not welcome on my blog until you can start learning to change.

Saw someone wondering about how the buildings in gotham are chipped from years of the bats grappling everywhere and am now imagining

- the bats swing around all the time but in certain areas they tend to parkour instead of grapple

- after a couple of them have close calls of falling, gothamites realise its bc the buildings are too weak in places to use the hooks safely anymore

- in starts in one neighborhood but quickly spreads throughout gotham; people get into the habit of checking their roofs for chips and cracks and start painting them

- different places do it different ways, some people use bright neon colours, an apartment block keeps a tin of glow-in-the-dark paint in the rooftop garden for anyone to use, one children's shelter fills the chips in with glitter glue

- slowly but surely the gotham skyline becomes a starry night with stars of paint and colour, marking the weakpoints so they can be seen even in the darkest of the city's nights

or create a shield with breathing. with each breath, imagine a bubble forming around your body, then your aura, growing with strength.

cleansing shower at the end of the day (intending it to cleanse my aura makes me more motivated to take one, idkw)

look at the moon, talk to it. remind yourself that it’s the same one your ancestors knew.

Reading comics is a lot like reading fanfiction, in the sense that I can pick up a story and immediately say “wtf [insert character here] would never say that” except instead of being written by a fifteen year-old girl in her notes app it is written by the actual adult writers who are getting paid to write this
