A Fresh Start

{Chapter 1}

   "Welp, that's the last of 'em." She grunted as she flew down and placed the last heavy box of possessions on the ground in her new home. Her empty new home. She dusted her hooves off before landing on solid ground.

   "Maybe this was a bad idea," she mumbled to herself. Sunny Dream moved to Ponyville, the friendliest place in all of Equestria, to get a fresh start. Make some new friends. She thought a change of pace would do her some good, but it only made her feel more alone than she already did.

   Growing up in Cloudsdale was a simple existence. Wake up, do some cloud busting, go home, rinse and repeat. Sunny didn't have many friends, and the ones she did have didn't seem to want to hang out very often. They were always busy with other things to do. Other friends to have fun with.

   "It's not that they hate you," her sister assured her, "they just... have busy schedules. I'm sure they love being around you."

   "If they wanted me around, they would make the time, Summer. They still manage to have fun with their other friends, there's just something wrong with me." Sunny's lip started to quiver as her sister embraced her.

   She shook her head at the memory.

   "Maybe I just need some fresh air, there's way too much dust in here to be healthy." She could unpack later, right now she needs to forget why she's here for a while. She took off flying at a leisurely pace down the unkept road that lead to her new home. Perhaps moving to the outskirts of town when she's trying to make friends wasn't the best decision either.

   The town was quaint, with plenty of ponies to make friends with. If only Sunny knew where to start. The smell of baked goods floating through the air stopped her train of thought in it's tracks. Her growling midsection reminded her she can't make friends on an empty stomach.

   Sunny followed the smell through the streets, narrowly avoiding colliding with other pedestrians as she made her way to the delicious smelling treats. She closed her eyes for a split second to gauge which direction she should go in with her nose, causing her to bump into another pony heading in the opposite direction. They were completely covered from head to hoof in shopping bags from various stores, which abstructed the earth pony's vision.

   "So sorry about that," Sunny said while rubbing her face at the site of impact, "here, let me help you out." She reached a hoof out to the mare to help her up. "Are you alright?"

   "Right as rain, sugar," the mysterious pony responded, grabbing a hold of Sunny's outstretched arm and pulling herself up. "Don't worry 'bout little ol' me, cupcake. Now, where are my manners? The name's Orange Custard, but most everypony just calls me Custard. You don't seem to be from 'round these parts. What's your name, honey?" Her country accent was so thick, it hung in the air like a sweet melody.

   "Sunny Dream, but everypony calls me Sunny, ma'am." She pretended to tip an imaginary hat which pulled a giggle out of Custard.

   "Well, I best be gettin' on back home. Don't be a stranger now, ya hear?" She called to Sunny as she trotted away with her shopping bags in hoof.

   Sunny stopped in her tracks. 'Don't be a stranger? Does that mean I made a friend?' She thought to herself. Maybe this move was a good idea after all.

   Sunny continued with her previous task of finding some lunch. Her nose was telling her to go through townsquare, past the shopping section where that sweet mare she just met came from a day of pampering.

   On the other side was the 'food court' section of town. Places to get hayburgers, pizzas, and all sorts of baked goods like cupcakes, muffins, and éclairs. The different smells wafting through the air from the various shops was a bit overwhelming to one's nose, but in a very good way when you haven't eaten since seven o'clock in the morning.

   It was nearing noon, the lunch rush hour. Sunny would have to find somewhere to eat soon or she'd be stuck at the back of the line for the next hour, and her stomach couldn't bare the thought.

   She looked around, trying to decide where to go when something caught her eye. No, not something.

   Somepony.

   The most beautiful mare she'd ever seen. A unicorn with soft, white and gray spotted fur, and a dark mane with light turquoise tips pulled into a messy ponytail. She had on little purple and gold reading glasses, with a concentrated look on her face. Her eyes were making the faintest movements back and forth in a smooth motion, cascading over the pages of a book.

   Sunny felt as if all of equestria melted away in that instant. She was floating on a cloud and the only thing that was with her was a warm, fuzzy feeling and a view of the most gorgeous mare ever, reading a book through the window of a shop.

   "Woah... I gotta meet her," she whispered to herself as a soft smile crept over her lips. She flew over to the shop, but stopped at the door. "Wait, what kinda store is this?" She should probably figure that out before waltzing inside and asking for the pretty mare in the window like a weirdo.

   She takes note of the sign at the front of the shop which reads:

The Bookery

A library, bakery, and cafe all in one!

   "A bakery, huh? I can work with that," she stated confidently as she strode into the Bookery. She fluffed up her feathers and fixed her mane. She has to make a good first impression.

   Sunny looks around for the mare as she stands in line. One corner of the shop has tables and chairs with ponies happily munching away on baked goods or sipping away at steaming beverages. Another corner has a reading nook with comfy couches and soft pillows surrounded by floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. The place is decorated with light wood accents and stringlights dotting the shelves, with plenty of plant life all over the store. 'Wonder how they keep track of keeping them watered,' she thought to herself.

   As she was trapped in her own thoughts looking for the mare in the window, the line to the front counter was getting shorter and shorter. Soon enough, she was at the front of the line.

   "Next!" The barista yelled to Sunny to get her attention. Sunny's anxiety spiked as she hurried up to the counter and started frantically looking for something to order.

   "I'll have... O-one of t-those! Please," she stuttered as she pointed to a little chalkboard menu sitting in front of the register detailing the Special of the Day™. "A-and a croissant. Actually, m-make that two. Please." She was still hungry, after all. She calmed down her nerves as the barista (who seemed to be really into wearing chains and piercings) took her order.

   "One Special and two croissants on the double," the barista, who's name was apparently Pumpkin Spice (fitting name), shouted to the kitchen staff as she ushered Sunny to pay and move over to the line at the pick up counter.

   Still looking for the mare of her dreams, Sunny was running out of places to search. 'It did kind of look like she was sitting in some sort of office? But why would she be sitting in an office? Unless...'

   Her train of thought was interrupted by the sound of a dinging bell and one of the kitchen staff yelling "order up! One Special and two croissants!" Sunny picked up her food, thanked the staff member who grunted in response, and walked to an empty seat to finally eat her food.

   She nibbled on one of the croissants. It was perfectly warmed with the right amount of crunch. Freshly baked goods are Sunny's favorite. She decides to try the drink she ordered. She took the cup with her hooves. It was hot to the touch. She admired the cute drawing of a heart made with foam on top of the liquid. The deep inhale she took captured the sweet scent of the drink. She blew the steam off to cool it down and lifted the cup to her lips.

   That was her first mistake.

   The caffeine took immediate effect. Her pupils dilated, heart rate increased, and she started twitching like crazy. It wasn't long before she was bouncing off the walls. She crashed into the other patrons in the store and broke a bunch of bookshelves and plant pots. It wasn't long before she crashed to the floor as she came down from her high.

   A bunch of ponies crowded around her. Most of them were customers who were angry about being knocked around. Some were employees trying to salvage the situation.

   Sunny's head throbbed. The ringing in her ears started to subside as she heard a door creak open.

   "What's going on here?!" A pony exclaimed. Sunny opened her eyes to see the mare from the window glaring down at her. She finally found the one she'd been looking for. She was so happy to see her. But the feeling did not seem to be reciprocated.

   The barista who took Sunny's order told the mare what happened. They both looked down at Sunny with distain, and the mare of her dreams said something to her that she'll never forget.

    "Get out of my store."

So back in like 2020 when I was still on Amino I wrote a fanfic in a next gen au about Rarity and Fancy Pants getting divorced and a lot of people liked it so I decided to redraw the cover art for the story because the old one looks rough lol

It feels like I've been waiting forever omg but now I will showcase the flags and my headcanons for the babs :)

Obviously we all know this one lol

I decided to give Amity the moon lesbian flag because I feel the aesthetic fits her very well (I also feel like she would associate the normal lesbian flag with who she used to be in season 1 so the change in flag represents the change in who she is). She probably learned about it through the internet like I did once they got to the human realm (I hope they got to celebrate pride month while they were there too)

Another self explanatory one, this pan flag also captures her ✨aesthetic✨

Now for the traumatized kid. We all know he is confirmed to be Bi and I've seen so many HCs about Hunter being transfemme but I feel that they would want to keep their masc energy but not completely. I think demiboy fits him quite well don't you think? As a demigirl myself I quite like the representation :) don't get me wrong I love trans characters I just like the "not straight straight couple" representation too and this felt like a nice balance

Now a lot of people like to ship Gus with Mattholomule (or rather Mat Tholomule) but judging by Gus's reaction to Man Tholomule™'s mustache of confusion (and maybe a little disgust lol) and the lack of an actual love interest I like to think Gus is an aroace lad (also the ✨aesthetic✨)

Omg I love Vee so much I wish we got to see more of them but I think they would be a Neptunic Ceteroromantic nonbinary basilisk :) Neptunic refers to someone who is sexually attracted to female aligned or nonbinary aligned people (anyone not male aligned or masc aligned) and ceteroromantic is a nonbinary person who is romantically attracted to other nonbinary people. I just love representation of lesser known sexualities and identities and so on <3

Now it is the God Kid™ again the aesthetic of the flag fits perfectly and people have already been using they/them for the collector in the show (they are very androgynous fr I'm so jealous 😭) so of course they would be nb. I didn't think it right to give them a sexuality since they're a literal god and a kid so I just left that part blank (if anything they would probably be questioning but I don't think they would have sexual/romantic attraction to any mortal being, I feel like the concept would be lost to them like death was so I think they wouldn't put a label on it either tbh)
