Uncertainty About Hosting a Zine (opinions wanted)

Hello everyone! It’s been a year and three days since I last posted. I will make this quick. When Steven Universe ended, I knew I wanted to do two things: host a final gemsona art event on my blog, and host a zine. However, I am reconsidering the zine because of the following:  1. The Corona Virus has made everyone’s lives go completely sideways and upside down. A lot of people are finding themselves very creative, or very much creatively blocked and run down from the stress and isolation. As quarantine drags on and different states/countries are flipping between opening and closing, I am not certain that people will find the inspiration and motivation to participate, especially when school comes around again (see next point). 2. The entire announcement time and creation period would go until the winter. This would be a busy time for students, especially with the new schooling formats due to the virus. Holidays would also take up the time a person may have to make art and/or write. 3. I know other SU zines have done charity and for-profit zines, but I worry about the legalities surrounding the sale of products containing pre-existing characters. I will do more research into this as I want there to be digital merch as well. 4. I am entering my senior year of college. I know that I have to make a cover page and possibly make merch to help with sales for the charity zine. I’m worried about rushing these important things and the quality coming out poorly, or pushing them off because of other priorities. I want to host a zine or SOMETHING, but I don’t know how much traction I will gain with the show’s end and the virus’ toll on everyone’s lives. I want to create a bigger project for us to be proud of, but I don’t know how successful it will be. I will figure something out. If not a zine, maybe a calendar, or screen backgrounds, or a recipe book, or stories with matching artwork, or a mix of things! Maybe it will be strictly SU and SUF, or include gemsonas, or only be gemsonas. I don’t know, but if you feel some way strongly, please do leave me a message on this post, my chat, or send an ask to my inbox. Thank you so much for reading.

Teen!Steven  and the Zoomans

So here’s an artwork for another SU AU I’m working on. 

Im more sharing this because I’m proud of the artwork but I thought I’d give you some context. 

This is a drawing of basically what happened when my Homeworld raised Steven went to the human Zoo for the first time. Also what I imagine would happen in Canon!Steven went there when he was older. I swear nothing inappropriate happened here lol

I mean, a NEW, HANDSOME, YOUNG MAN arrives in the zoo you KNOW they’re all gonna be all over that trying to convince him to “choose” them.

(Also OWO is that a pearl lurking in the background?)

My first year doing this and honestly it’s really cool to see how far I’ve come in one year!

Here’s my 2019 art rewind (I didn’t realize people were calling it “summary” until just now whoops.)

Some of these I haven’t shared here (yet) but you can clearly see me stepping out of my comfort zone as the year went by and trying new things, even if it’s all still SU related. Hehe, I’m trash but I’m proud of it.

I got an idea for a Steven Universe Fan Comic I want to make but I need background gems! Specifically Spinels but all types would be welcome.

This comic would take place between the movie and SUF.

If you’d like to see your gem in it you can send me a ref and some basic info! Either in dm, by tagging me, or as a submition! (I’ll be sooooo surprised if someone actually responds but I have my fingers crossed)

So here’s a gem couple I started awhile back but never finished....until now.

Meet Jasper and Aquamarine, a loving couple despite Homeworld’s stigma (pre Steven of course).

Aquamarine is very EMO and Jasper is very joyful. A real dark one falls for sweet one couple trope.

Here’s some more Bixbite featuring more of her gem kind.

She’s definitely not as diplomatic as her sisters and prefers to just tell them she hates them instead of pretending like they do.

Sometimes is hard to hang it with someone just like you. Now imagine a whole room full of them.

Here’s the full edit of my baby Velvet and her Rubies. I posted a transparent version on an earlier post talking about her.

I used 2 different backgrounds smashed together to try and give it the look of a more crowded area, like a plaza floor.

There’s also a snippet of another Sapphire of mine on the background. Can you guess her color?

Velvet Sapphire was created for one Fuschia Diamond on the Gemsona amino which I will link here. This Diamond is known for creativity and her matronly/motherly attitude towards her court and fellow diamonds.

I took a similar approach to Velvet as she is the typical “mom friend” and, though small, she demands a certain amount of respect. She cares for the gems around her, storing all sorts of seemingly random items in her gem “just in case”.

She often takes it upon herself to handle misbehaving gems and, much like children, she often puts them in “time outs” in her time out bubbles for a short period of time. She does let the zircons and jaspers handle the criminal activity of course but not without delivering her own punishment as well;

Just like most real moms and kids, its one thing to make mom made its a whole different story when you disappoint her. And that applies here as many gems in Fuschia’s court hate this look more than the bubbles. Especially her own Ruby guard.

She has three Ruby guards all from the same vein in the same kindergarten. The trio (basically triplets) act as her own children. Rambunctious and playful like most RUbies, they’ve seen the inside of the Time Out Bubble many times. If they knew what a mother was, they would agree that Velvet is like a mother to them both in action and relationship.

Like a real mom, Velvet has a LOT of stuff to remember. Meetings, names, gems, stations, events both future and past, her head is full of things she needs to know. This fact, plus the fact that she practically lives in her future vision (she likes to study possible timelines as a hobby) makes her EXTREMELY forgetful. It’s not unusual to see her rushing to meetings or doing something after its due to be done. Ever since she got her Rubies this hasn’t been as much of a problem as they remember a lot for her.

I honestly love her design and her rubies a lot more than I expected. I’m gad you like her too!

2 New-ish Gems I made. Meet Bixbite and Pink Sapphire.

Bixbite is a super high ranking gem, higher than sapphire, who helps run a space station for the Authority. She’s a very blunt character and, though she means the best, is generally rude and almost careless about what she says and does. She has literally no tact and just says things as they are or appear to be.

Sapphire works as an underlying to Bixbite. The stations resident sapphire and Bixbite’s best friend and advisor, she is the more diplomatic of the two. Her job mostly consists of smoothing the feathers Bixbite ruffles and apologizing for her bluntness.

The two are practically inseparable.

Bixbite is have the size of the average Sapphire.

Meet Velvet Sapphire, my newest gem.

I made her for a challenge on amino and honestly I really like her.

She’s a mom gem, known for treating gems around her like her own children. As in praising them, scolding them, putting them in a time out bubble when necessary. She mostly does this to her own ruby guard (her children so-to-speak) but she has been known to do this to Gems not under her charge.

She also lives in her future vision. As in, she spends so much time looking at the possible futures that she can be very forgetful. Things she was meant to do, Gems names(facets), and just general things often slip her mind.

Her Rubies ask as both guards and memos, remembering her schedule and various things when she can’t. The trio cake form the same kindergarten and act as if they are one gem with three bodies instead of three separate gems.

Anyone want to do an art collab or something?

It can be related to Marvel, DC, General OCs, Spiderverse(Spidersonas), Steven Universe(and gemsonas), really anything tbh.

My first Disney recolor (many?)

I have no idea what to call this :-/

I love @thenamelessdoll and all of the edits and art. So I thought I’d try pasting together some Disney coloring pages to make some of my characters.

I planned to do this for mermay but I’m bad at punctuality.

So here’s Mermaid Silver and Beryl interacting on the ocean floor.

I fused Crystal Quartz with, oh my, another Crystal Quartz!

Honestly I’ve been meaning to draw these two interacting for awhile now since my CQ would ADORE this single gem.

My Crystal Quartz is a fusion between Silver Diamond and Red Beryl, both of which you see in the comics as they react to seeing this single-gem soldier.

This features Crystal Quartz (mine and theirs), Rue (by) who is Silver’s personal Ruby guard, and EGP (Earth Grown Pearl) whole CQ made after they arrived on earth because she was lonely and Siler missed her own pearl.

(The comic colors aren’t accurate because I put a filter in it to make it look better. Sorry)

Another edit. This time with my only male gem, Powered Blue Zircon.

He was a Homeworld gem who ended up stranded on Earth during the Victorian era. He preferred the male fashion at the time and took in a male form. As the decades went by he stuck with the male persona he made.

He opened a tailor shop that now handles high end suits and dresses. His shop is called PB Zirconia.

He wears human clothes and is the de facto leader of the Stranded gems on Earth.

They keep in touch via a cool online chat room where they all swap stories of their past and current lives.

He’s a lovable dork who tries to act cooler than he is. He may or may not have been made subconsciously as personal fan service 😅

My Diamondsona, Silver Diamond. A temperamental gem, she wasn’t incredibly close the the main four (canon) diamonds and, when Yellow sensed the seeds of a rebellion in her, was forced to flee Homeworld with only a handful of gems by her side. This group included Rue (by) the head of her personal Star Ruby guard, and Red Beryl who was a caring shoulder-to-cry on but was still a fierce soldier.

This was made for a challenge that puts your Diamond oc in the place of pink so I changed all the Crystal Gems!

Also replaced the flower with a dandelion. You’ll see why below.

About Andy:

Aside form the challenge, Andy is a fusion between two very newly emerged gems, a Ruby and a Dandelion Yellow Sapphire.

Because Sapphire, or Dandy as Ruby Cala her sometimes, has zero future vision she was sent to be shattered.

Ruby was apart of the guard squad taking her to be shattered and decided the emotional gem didn’t deserve to die. So she helped her escape.

They’ve been on the run ever since. What started as a fusion for safety and comfort, a fusion meant for protection, slowly became a fusion of love as the two needed each other. They couldn’t stand the thought of being apart, fused or infused.

Because of the young age of her components, Andy is like a child herself. She very emotional but understanding and, though often makes mistakes or makes matters worse, always means well and is just trying to help.

Kinda like your toddler niece who’s only 3 years old and nocks the trash can over trying to help by taking the full bag out.

My posts haven’t been showing up in the Gemsona tag so if this one doesn’t I’m giving up unless I get help.

So I’m starting with one of my more recent and current favs Watermelon Tourmaline.

She’s a fusion between an Emerald and Red Agate and because of that is huge. And each of her components has their own pearl so she has two Pearls, Zinnia and Primrose

In this pic she’s shown holding her Pearls, my Ivy (bicolor) Sapphire, Moss Agate and Leaf Green Pearl (Mossy and her pearl Leafy)

Leafy is in her palm and Zinnia and Primrose are in her right shoulder/arm

WT is my accidental Christmas gem and I love her!

My Ruby Squad

Here’s a challenge I participated in in Amino. It was to turn gemsonas into God’s so I chose the Norse Deities known and the Norns (Norms)

For the gems I chose my Ruby squad who may end up named after the Norns idk yet.

They belong to one of my Diamonds, Brown Diamond and work as an elite team who protect various gems when in diplomatic missions.

Forehead is playing Skald: what will be

She is a very “monk” like character who is very quiet but temperamental. She hides it well.

Stomach is playing Verdandi: what is presently coming into being

She is the warrior of the three and is often “tsundere” acting as though she doesn’t care when in fact she cares deeply

Chest is playing Urd: the past

She is the leader. She often mistaken for a naive child due to her laid back attitude and her young age but she’s actually a natural leader and very good at her job.

Here’s my entry to day 1 “Fall Weather”

I couldn’t decide on one gem so we have my whole off-color group recently brought to Earth by Steven. He’s introducing them to fall and it’s holidays starting with pumpkin picking! He’s probably there taking the picture

From right to left we have;

Jasper, an over cooked Quartz formed with a crack in her gem

Plum Pearl, a cowardly runaway pearl who has named herself caretaker of sapphire

Gold Sapphire, originally made for Yellow Diamond she is completely blind save her future vision

And Olvine, a permafusion made of love between a Peridot and Olive Pearl

I planned to color it but, like I said, I lost track of time

A gemsona design I made to practice digital art. Her name is Cherry Sapphire. She’s a precious bean I’m thinking bout using for RP or to put in a shared world with other people’s gemsonas. She’s not my main gemsona but I don’t really have a “main”. More like a main group.
