This scene completely blew my mind when I first saw it. It was SO FREAKING COOL!!! Like, Marvel basically turned these Norse mythology characters into outer space Vikings who fly SPACESHIPS???

This Scene Completely Blew My Mind When I First Saw It. It Was SO FREAKING COOL!!! Like, Marvel Basically

Dream Plane and I have soooooo many headcanons and plot bunnies revolving around Thor and Loki being pilots. It's such a cool concept to explore! Like, they would obviously have had flight training. How many flight hours do they have? Did they ever get into crazy scrapes during their cross-country (cross-realm?) solos? Did they have to learn stalls while flying within Asgard's atmosphere? Did they ever get to experience microgravity? How long does it take Thor (in normal circumstances) to familiarize himself with new spacecraft?? (dramatic gasp) What if Loki was a test pilot at some point??? (incoherent squeeing)

In this image from Aug. 12, 2024, medical and fire-rescue personnel participate in the Artemis II mission emergency escape or egress verification and validation tests near Launch Complex 39 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Artemis Astronauts Have Drills, Too!

Chances are, if you have ever spent time in a school or office building, you have experienced a fire drill. Well, astronauts practice emergency drills, too!

In this image from Aug. 11, 2024, members of the Exploration Ground Systems Program suit up as astronauts and practice the process of getting inside and out of the emergency egress baskets. Three people wearing orange Orion Crew Survival System suits walk in a single file line in the crew access arm toward the emergency egress baskets. The sprinkler system overhead sprays water everywhere. Credit: NASA/Kim Shiflett

Since we began sending astronauts to space, we have used systems and drills to practice moving people safely away from the launch pad in the unlikely event of an emergency during the countdown to launch.

In this image from July 29, 1960, the uncrewed Mercury-Atlas 1 mission launches from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Premature engine cutoff at launch terminated the test and the emergency escape system jettisoned. A bright light flashes and smoke emerges from the escape rocket motor on the top of the rocket. The words, “United States” can be read on the side of the Atlas rocket. Credit: NASA

Early Mercury and Gemini programs in the 1960s used a launch escape system in the form of a solid rocket motor that could pull the astronauts to safety in the event of an emergency. However, this system only accounted for the astronauts, and not other personnel at the launch pad. NASA’s emergency systems have since improved substantially to include everyone.

Artemis II will be NASA’s first mission with crew aboard the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft. Artemis II will fly around the Moon and come back to Earth. Beginning with the Artemis II mission, we will use a track cable to connect the mobile launcher — the ground structure that supports the rocket before and during launch — to the perimeter of the launch pad. Picture a gondola ski lift beginning at the top of the rocket and ending all the way down to the ground. In case of an emergency, astronauts and support crews move from the capsule into the crew access arm, climb into one of four baskets waiting for them, and ride down to the ground.

In this image from Aug. 12, 2024, three members of the Pad Rescue team practice carrying a suited subject out of the emergency egress basket in a stretcher. The Pad Rescue team members are wearing firefighter uniforms and helmets. Credit: NASA/Frank Michaux

There, members of the Pad Rescue team are ready to scoop the astronauts up and whisk them to safety. Think of the Pad Rescue team as spaceflight knights in shining armor. Except instead of saving crew from a fire breathing dragon, they are whisking the astronauts away from a fully loaded skyscraper-sized rocket that’s getting ready to lift off.

In this image from Aug. 13, 2024, a member of the Pad Rescue team practices getting inside and out of the emergency egress baskets. Another member of the Pad Rescue team wearing a firefighter uniform stands with their back to the camera. They face one of the emergency egress baskets while the sprinkler system sprays water everywhere. Credit: NASA/Kim Shiflett

The Artemis II mission will also introduce several new ground systems for the first time – including the new and improved braking system similar to what roller coasters use! Though no NASA mission to date has needed to use its ground-based emergency system during launch countdown, those safety measures are still in place and maintained as a top priority.

So the next time you practice a fire drill at school or at work, remember that these emergency procedures are important for everyone to stay safe — even astronauts.

I guess dragon eggs aren’t only found in Alagaësia.

I can just see the hatchling. She might bond with someone from the first crew of astronauts who reaches the nebula if she doesn’t remain as a wild dragon. Since the picture is a false color image to show the nebula’s characteristics, our space hatchling wouldn't be pink but likely have bright white, glistening scales. Her temperament might be bold, wild, unpredictable, and even destructive at times like the cosmic forces she was born within. However, she would be steadfast and loyal like the enduring light of nebulae.

Random Poll: How do you prefer to use Tumblr?

This poll includes two sets of device options: one set for app users and one set for browser users. Just choose the option you use the most for Tumblr! Mine would be "Laptop (Browser)💻💫", for example. The poll will stay open for a week, and I'll definitely share the results here.

No pressure to participate! This is just some fun research I am doing out of curiosity. I personally prefer to use Tumblr on my laptop's browser because I'm old and need to see ALL the features easily.😅 So I'm curious to see everyone's preferences here.

Enjoy!💖

Hi! I found your post describing how Odin abused Thor differently than Loki, and my goodness, everything you mentioned is spot on! I especially found your analysis about the brothers’ mindsets after being pitted against each other since they were kids so detailed and fascinating (what is LWML by the way? It sounds interesting). There was an Avengers Assemble episode or two that touches upon their forced rivalry. In them, Thor is upset about how they had to compete, and he struggles with insecurity about his academic performance despite being the stronger and favored brother (Odin actually pulled him out of school to go on advanced quests, which sounds cool at the surface level but really isn’t).

Odin’s behavior in the MCU reminds me so much of how he treats Thor in the comics, particularly the Journey Into Mystery comics from 1963 and the Thor comic run from 1966. I’ve probably squeaked about it here before, so apologies if I have. Also, feel free to not continue reading if you would prefer not to see comic spoilers or triggering topics. :)

In these comics, Odin absolutely does not tolerate any disobedience or perceived “threats” to his orders to the point of irrationality. I think the examples that stuck out the most to me the most are Journey Into Mystery #125-127, where Thor tells Jane that he is Donald Blake. Odin pretty much throws a hissy fit over that and forces everyone in Asgard to fight and try to kill him. Then when Thor escapes that, the jerk goes and tells his magician/vizier to halve Thor’s powers (because he “loves” Thor so much that he can’t bring himself to do it himself, ugh) while Thor’s in the middle of a fight with Hercules. At least it backfires, but Thor comes back to save Odin’s sorry butt (and nearly dies again!) despite being hurt by him. Odin shows remorse whenever he pulls nonsense like that, but he keeps doing similar stuff over and over again despite apologizing.

Another comic that was very upsetting was a brief narration in King Thor #4 that mentions how Odin got mad at baby Thor because he was crying about a storm (as you read on, it explains that Thor was causing the storm and implies that maybe something else made him cry). So what does he do? Put the poor little thing outside in the storm for a while and forbid everyone to comfort or help him! Thor is seemingly traumatized by this ordeal because when Odin goes to get him, he’s soaking wet but dry-eyed. I couldn’t help but compare that to Laufey abandoning baby Loki in the first Thor movie.

At least Thor calls out some of Odin’s awful parenting in the newer comics, like in Thor (2018). But he still is very forgiving of him.

Anyway, that’s my little rant that your analysis spawned. Odin’s A+ Parenting is far from being a new concept, and I find it to be great fanfic inspiration. :)

Thank you! Glad you liked my thoughts on the topic.

LWML is Loki: Where Mischief Lies book, it's supposed to be MCU-based but is as canon as any book about a popular movie franchise can be. It's from Loki's pov and he is being manipulated by literally (and I mean LITERALLY) everyone in the book while struggling with the choice between being who he wants to be (a decent person and a beloved political figure, not necessarily a king, but at least a prince) vs giving up and being who he is perceived to be (aka almost everyone treats him like a potential threat & not good enough, and there is sort of a "prophecy" of him becoming the god of evil), and because of that the book gives us a lot of odinsfam dynamic.

Thank you so much for all of this information, that's new to me, I don't read many old comics. I knew that comic book Odin was a horrendous straight-up abusive father, because, as you said, in the newer issues Thor mentions it on multiple occasions, but I never knew what exactly did this mf do, and the story about the storm made me tear up a little bit.

I think that while I do agree with the op of the post I responded to that Thor putting Odin on a pedestal and brushing off his abusive behavior as Loki's "imagined slights" is incredibly unfair towards Loki, I just have to point out that it seems like if MCU Thor recognizes Odin for who he was, he will break. Because that would mean Thor is the favorite child of a monster. That Thor spend centuries proud of and afraid of losing the approval and love of someone cruel. That he should've stood up for Loki. TDW mentions that Frigga was distant towards Thor and he took pride in the fact that his father loved him, if he had to recognize that the love was conditional and abusive, he would have nothing left. He was defined worthy by Odin's spell. He was named heir by Odin. He was fighting battles defending Odin's name. And if Odin's a monster, what does it say about Thor?

"the greatest Love poem is by Shakespeare" "the greatest Love poem is by Emily Brönte" God literally wrote the absolute most beautiful love poem right here

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away."

(1 Corinthians 13: 4-9)

For I Have Learned In Whatever State I Am, To Be Content” (Philippians 4:11)

For I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content” (Philippians 4:11)

Paul learned not to let what he didn’t have, overshadow what he did. Contentment calls for simplifying your life. “Contentment makes poor men rich, and discontent makes rich men poor.”

Contentment means my happiness is not dependent upon circumstances. It's saying "My happiness is dependent upon the Lord not on my circumstances in life."

Paul said, “I've learned the secret of contentment in every situation." Contentment is something you have to learn. It's not something that comes naturally. Our happiness isn't dependent on how much or how little we've got. If you don't learn contentment, you'll never be happy. You'll always want more.

This Was My Very First Comic Outfit Recreation. It's Betty Ross' Standard Fit From The OG 1940s Captain

This was my very first comic outfit recreation. It's Betty Ross' standard fit from the OG 1940s Captain America comic run. The artists were kinda inconsistent in drawing her outfit, so I decided to go with her look from the first few comics that were published in 1941 (see comic panels at the end!). Let's just say that I went overboard with collecting stuff for this moodboard. 😅

The main components of this fit (hats, shirt, blazer, skirt) are from the '40s. The compact/lipstick (Coty "Flying Colors") and watch are also WWII-era. I didn't really need to include them, but they fit the wartime mood of the comics.

Searching for a purse and shoes that matched the comics got tricky, so I resorted to choosing items that were from the mid-late 1930s. I mean, it's 1941, and everyone just got out of the Great Depression, so it makes perfect sense that Betty would hang on to her nice stuff. The little gold coin/ID purse (also '30s) was absolutely not necessary, but I thought it was so cute that I had to include it in this moodboard. My excuse is that Betty needs a designated place to keep her FBI badge and other super secret stuff.

(takes off amateur historian hat) Okay, enough of that. Here are the two panels I referred to when making this moodboard. Side note: Sergeant Duffy gives Steve Rogers a hard time, partially because Steve can be such a rascally little goof in these comics. With all the pranks he and Bucky pull on ol' Sarge, I'm surprised he wasn't kicked out of the Army!

fandom goes into deep denial about the attempted infanticide of baby loki because the imperialism reading of it works against the text and requires that the baby be stolen not abandoned, and that this theft be for the most nefarious and imperialist purposes we can think of. whereas actually - and i was going to say this is 'the obvious parallel' but no it's not even a parallel it's what's clearly happening there - the baby's been left out to die for being disabled hasn't he?

the word 'runt' gets used but adult loki compared to other frost giants is not just slightly on the small side, he's probably equivalent to a human with dwarfism, which definitely brings this into Infanticiding The Disabled Child territory. which a) laufey cannot be allowed to do because that's a fucked up and horrible thing to do* b) we also can't allow that odin just kept that baby because by asgardian standards there was no obvious disability there. (the social model of disability, but with giants and less-giants**) "why would you be throwing out this baby, laufey? it looks normal-sized. it doesn't even have an unusual number of limbs. yeah, i am taking this baby as a friend for my similarly-sized bio-son. mine now. finders keepers." i point this out because the disabled baby is not saved by someone thinking disability-based infanticide is wrong - at least not necessarily so - but by being found by someone who doesn't recognise the supposed problem. to whom it simply does not exist.

and of course fandom loves sad little feeble loki being weak and pathetic in fic, but i have somehow never seen this tied to the fact that he is canonically undersized for his species and likely has some connected internal fuckery going on with his organs. we have no idea what made him that small or what it'd do and - here's the fun kicker for you angst fans! - probably nobody on asgard would either. when's the last time any of them had to look after even an entirely able-bodied jotun? how likely is it that they can just write off to jotunheim to say "hey what's up with that kid your king tried to murder? how would we fix him if he lived here? yeah, our king kept him. no, we didn't eat the baby! can we borrow a medical textbook? what do you mean you don't have paper there. well how do you write down how the orientalist belly-dancer outfits are to be worn? well then how... no, come back. did you just hang up on a letter???"

sorry, i digressed. what i was aiming for was that there is a very obvious reason why loki might be unusually weak for a lad who looks healthy to us and who doesn't seem any smaller or less able-bodied than the people around him, but i just don't see it being deployed in fic or in meta or whatever. is this because the 'laufey just left his baby out for some fresh air like norwegians do' reading kind of relies on that baby not being seen as a burden to be got rid of and we all kind of agree that... no. no, i shall not finish that thought. it is too depressing. it probably is that though isn't it?

anyway. this is me wondering what is up with that. other than maybe some kind of 'echo-chamber effect' where even the wildest ideas can become commonly-held fanon and where it'd be easy to just straight-up ignore a very obvious implication of baby-murdering because someone leaving you to just fucking die for being disabled is somehow not enough oppression for a blorbo in these enlightened times. or because it breaks a popular fandom interpretation of events. or something like that?

*in fairness i'd say humans from earth are probably within the group that's allowed to just not care about humans from earth getting invaded and killed.

**i say 'less-giants' because look:

Fandom Goes Into Deep Denial About The Attempted Infanticide Of Baby Loki Because The Imperialism Reading

look at this literal giant among men. tiny scrawny little thing, so smol and so freakishly tall to the humans. i call this 'the social model of smolness.'

Ooh, this looks fun!

Hello Everyone!

Hello everyone!

We are announcing a new event as part of our MCUchallenge year of celebrations (see details here) - Superhero Day! 🦸

Superhero Day is celebrated on the 28th of April, so this is when our event will take place. To participate make a gifset/art/edit, post it on this day, adding “@mcuchallenge year of celebrations - Superhero Day” to your caption and the #mcuchallengefilled tag 😘

As usual, for your edits you can use MCU movies, Disney+ Marvel shows, interviews with cast and crew, other videos of actors e.g. from premieres or other public appearances, from Instagram, etc. For more details see our Rules/F.A.Q. page (or for those on the app - the post) - all the same rules that we had for our monthly prompts apply :)

For those who can't create, and for everyone who'd like to take part in that event with another fun activity as well, we thought to launch a tag game, where you can tell us your favourite superheroes. We'll be gathering those (don't forget to mention @mcuchallenge) and we'll make a set for our celebration that will include 10 (MCU) superheroes that will be most frequently mentioned in those posts from now till the 25th of April, 2025 😉 The example post (aka the starting post for that tag game) can be found here. Everyone is invited to take part! 😜
