has someone made a “i wish you’d die” x “dong kyung trying to save myul mang’s life” parallel yet? because i’ve deleted my episode already so i’m too lazy to gif it but i think it should be giffed. especially because she learned prior to that scene that he can not die. and YET her instinct was to save him. oh boy.
that one time taemin was in switzerland and jonghyun was like "i wonder what he's doing? probably eating snow i guess" and the camera cut to a shot of taemin eating snow
I don’t ‘zone out’. Being zoned out is my default state, and I occasionally zone back in to check how things are going.
unpopular opinion but i think a lot of the things that people think are “pretentious” aren’t actually pretentious - they just require a little more effort & intentionality on the reader / viewer’s part to understand. but bc we’re so used to mass produced media and instant, consumable content, we’ve come to take for granted that knowledge & information can be instantaneously grasped, digested and absorbed without any real participation or action from us. if people were actually looking to criticise pretentiousness, they would call out the classism & racism of ivory tower intellectualism and its cultural manifestations, not whine about how “inaccessible” media that don’t treat their audience like idiots are
#so what’s the truth 1.03 | 1.06
Awwwwww get yourself a man who reads other people’s minds so he knows exactly when someone is getting off so he can get you a seat in the public transportation after a long day at work. #BoyfriendGoals
Well, I know that was oddly specific and unreachable lol but you know what I mean, he was cute in this scene.
Also, when she told him he was pretty much behaving like a human now and his reaction was a little smile that he tried to hide:
These two are gonna end me and I’m totally, totally gonna let them.
Oh, and my favorite part about this scene!!! (They totally forgot they were surrounded by people on public transportation lmao it’s like they’re on their little world!)
And I almost choked when he told her he needed to stay there in order to “observe” her hahahahah Mr. Doom, you have no right to be this direct and swoony, especially when you don’t even realize it lol
so let's talk about the first and the last conversation in this episode shall we
first, we have those two actually admitting, point blank, that they're worried about each other. doom is confused and angry, because she could've died and why the hell would she do something so stupid and useless if she knew he cannot die? she retaliates, not by being defensive and immediately saying she didn't think it through and she would've done the same for anyone, but by expressing worry and empathy. and then she adds that she actively wanted to do it and what's more, she doesn't regret it, even with the knowledge that he cannot die and she almost did.
he's angry, and of course, we could suspect that he's worried over her almost dying because, as he says later, without her he cannot end the world. but then, she points out something important. he says he killed that man, and she shouldn't sacrifice herself for him with no reason because he is not worth it. she replies, I'm sure you did it for a reason.
the thing is, she is right. but their later talk circles around that idea, maybe he did it because he is punishing people? maybe it is his work? but his work was done when he prolonged this man's life so that he would suffer. now, why would he kill him, then? it wasn't work, it wasn't punishment, it was personal retaliation. doom saw this man attack and almost kill dong kyung, even if unintentionally. he saw her caring enough to jump in and foolishly try to save him and felt enraged enough to ditch the bigger plan because of it. a lot of personal, human emotions were involved.
now, throughout the episode, he observes dong kyung, trying to figure out her own reasons for acting the way she did. and the conclusion of his observations is in the last conversation. yes, he managed to read her in the subway, but more importantly, he had a revelation about himself.
he had an opportunity to feel like maybe, just maybe, he was worth something to someone, that he mattered enough for someone to risk their own lives they otherwise want to desperately preserve. he felt genuine care as she empathized with him and tried to understand instead of reacting with fear or anger. he had his opportunity to also express care, do something good instead of destructive, in the subway, and at the beach. he wanted her to cling to him and she literally did, grabbing his sleeve and asking to go with him. so his conclusion?
he wants to be loved by her. she is the one human in existence who was able to see through the bad and notice him, make him feel like he was something beyond death and destruction that (quite literally) follows him. he was sure he cannot be loved and now he is basically pleading her to try and love him, with vulnerability he hasn't shown before, the shooting star visually confirming his wish was genuine.
now, it is not to say that his personal journey is done or that he's changed his mind about ending the world completely. but these two things are strongly connected and him voicing his desire to be loved by her is a huge step on the road to realize his personal identity and separate it from what is now a projection of his self-hatred onto the humankind. it's not over, folks, it's bound to get more interesting and dramatic for sure.
1. Meet Joe Black (1998)
Quote: “Love is passion. Obsession. Someone you can’t live without. Someone you fall head over heels for. Find someone you can love like crazy and will love you the same way back. Listen to your heart. No sense in life without this. To make the journey without falling deeply in love, you haven’t lived a life at all. You have to try, because if you haven’t tried, then you haven’t lived.”
2. While You Were Sleeping (1995)
Quote: “He would get these far-off looks in his eyes and he would say ‘Life doesn’t always turn out the way you plan’. I just wish I’d realized at the time, he was talking about MY life.”
3. Love and Other Drugs (2010)
Quote: “You meet thousands of people and none of them really touch you. And then you meet one person and your life is changed forever.”
4. The Notebook (2004)
Quote: “They didn’t agree on much. In fact, they rarely agreed on anything. They fought all the time—and they challenged each other every day. But despite their differences, they had one important thing in common: They were crazy about each other.”
5. A Walk to Remember (2002)
Quote: “Maybe God has a bigger plan for me than I had for myself. Like this journey never ends. Like you were sent to me because I’m sick. To help me through all this. You’re my angel.”
6. Father of the Bride (1991)
Quote: “Right then I realized, my day had passed. She’ll always love me, of course, but not in the same way. I was no longer the man in my little girl’s life. I was like an old shoe. The kind we manufacture and get all excited about, then after a few years discontinue. That was me now. Mr. Discontinued.”
7. Something Borrowed (2011)
Quote: “You’re not the only one who hasn’t been living his life, I haven’t either, but I want to live it now, and I want to live it with YOU.”
8. The Ugly Truth (2009)
Quote: “The big strong brave men, that we’ve all been reading about in novels and watching in movies since we’ve been nine years old - - that’s a fallacy. They don’t exist. Men are not strong. Men are not brave. Men, are afraid. Even if they have a moment in a hotel elevator and it’s totally romantic and full of potential, men are incapable of copping to it because, why? Men are weak.”
9. Dear John (2010)
Quote: “The problem with time, I’ve learned, whether it’s those first two weeks I got to spend with you, or the final two months I got to spend with him, eventually time always runs out. I have no idea where you are out there in the world, John. But I understand that I lost the right to know these things long ago. No matter how many years go by, I know one thing to be as true as it ever was - I’ll see you soon then.”
10. 27 Dresses (2008)
Quote: “Love is patient. Love is kind. Love is slowly losing your mind.”
Would you recommend Luna and the lie? Are you still reading it?? What about other booms by the same author?
Yes I would! Tbh I think I once said holly black was the queen of slowburns but I might have lied lol it’s Mariana Zapata. Like genuinely the slowest of burns. I would definitely recommend her other books, plus it’s kinda cool to see they’re all set in the same universe.
They’re long and usually enemies to friends to lovers. I think of all the books I’ve read from her, Only two are on my dnf list lol.
The wall of Winnipeg and me, one of my favorites. I can go back multiple times to read that one haha. Personal assistant of this super huge super stoic football player quits her job and said football player tries to entice her while also keep his residency by asking her to marry him. “You know more about me than anyone else does.” was what really cut my heart up.
Kulti, that was one that I wasn’t sure I was going to like but ended up really enjoying. The girls soccer team has a new retired player coach and he’s such a hard ass but she takes it in stride bc her MO is being better than she was five minutes ago. They clash a lot then they don’t. “It’s a term of affection in my country. My love. My snail.” Hahaha I started tearing up at that one.
Under Locke, that was different but good different, more intense than the others and is kinda similar to how I felt with Kulti. Her dads a bad guy and she moves in with her brother so he could keep an eye on her, meanwhile getting her a job at a tattoo parlor where the boss is a sorta gang member. “But I'm not a good man, and I'm gonna take everythin' you want to give me and everythin' you don’t.” Oof. My loins.
Luna and the lie, which I thoroughly enjoyed and might be my new favorite. She’s moved away from her crazy dangerous family taking her sisters with her and her newest boss is a hardass who believes he owes her a favor after she lied to the cops for him...except every favor she asks, he insists is not part of the deal. “You haven’t listened to a single fucking thing I’ve said, have you? Seen a single thing I’ve done? You’re the only person who hasn’t put shit together?” Be still my heart.
Wait for it, as most of her books are heartbreaking at some points, this one kinda started out on heartbreak but it was the way she dealed with it that made my heart so soft. After gaining custody of her brothers two sons, she moves to a new town where their new baseball coach/ neighbor is a little resentful of all the attention he usually gets, and becuase of a misunderstanding he thinks she’s just as bad as everyone else who hits on him. “Do you love me?, I asked him like I did every night just to hear him say it.” The kiddos in this were too adorable.
From lukov with love, turned out seriously sweet but I wasn’t surprised. Enemies on ice haha literally. He’s a pretty famous ice skater and she still struggles to reach her goal. He needs a new partner and wants her to be it. “‘We both know you love me.’ I wanted to deny it. I really did. Mostly because I hated the fact that he sounded so smug. But we both knew I’d be lying.” Truly the most enemies to lovers of them all.
Becuase how they’re all slowburns, I got really, really invested haha. Also learned a lot about certain sports and tattooing? And car painting? And uhh motorcycle clubs? Loved the family and friendship dynamics even if some of the family dynamics were so awful I wanted to punch characters through the pages; it was just well thought out and I felt every emotion. The main characters were also pretty badass and hilarious at times, if not a little naïve where it counted. Would definitely recommend if you want a contemporary romance to read and get invested in.
All of season 4, in one convenient post.

sam wilson appreciation post.
there’s no one in the mcu more caring, and gentle, and empathetic, and kind. he is the best friend everyone needs. someone who will call you out on your bs. someone who is kind enough and loves you enough to tell you what you need to hear even if you don’t wanna hear it. someone who treats you like family and gives you a place to stay. someone who listens and takes ones feelings into consideration. he’s the one you call one when you’re in trouble and need help.
sam wilson is just a good man. i say it all the time, i know. i can’t help it.
and they way he interacts w everyone in the show just makes my heart explode. he tries to reason with his enemies. john walker deserved nothing more than to rot in cell, but sam still wanted to talk things out. he comforts bucky, yes, but he also tells him what he needs to hear. he’s there for his family and doesn’t leave them behind despite the war he’s fighting against the flagsmashers. he believes in karli. ugh, i could go on and on about this man.
and bucky barnes. let’s talk abt character development for a moment. first off, he smiled genuinely too many this episode. i cry. anyways, the way he recognized his wrong and APOLOGIZED. HE APOLOGIZED. writers and directors always just kinda blow it off and leave the viewers assuming that the characters have made up and that it’s all good. but bucky apologized to sam. that- that is what i’m here for. as a poc that means so much, bc a lot of non poc don’t even make an effort to understand, to try and empathize. he tried. and he did.
lastly. i love this show. i love these men. bucky barnes is beautiful. sarah wilson deserves the world. i wanna take aj and cass out for ice cream. sam wilson was lookin like a snack and servin us lots of beautiful melanin.
yeah, sam wilson is my hero. sam wilson is captain america.
end of the story. goodnight.

Dark Academia is a complex aesthetic... Let's all think of as many sub genres of DA as we can. A lot come to mind, right? In this post I've tried to narrow some down. Hope you enjoy :) (& perhaps you might find the sub genre of DA that best suits you) ~ THE 1940s ACADEMIC~ These folks don't necessarily have a passion for ancient history or the classics… instead, they spend their time researching The Great War as thoroughly as possible. They wear brick red lipstick no matter the occasion. If you look around their home, you may find a collection of portable typewriters, or perhaps an envelope filled with old photographs of their parents or forgotton acquaintances. Their go-to wardrobe colour is either a rich brown or an army green. Cigars are their best friends, just like their idol, the newly elected prime minister, Winston Churchill. ~THE GOTHIC POET~ This person has as many candles as they do hairs on their head. True to their name, they spend hours writing elaborate lines of poetry, usually not bothering to change out of their lacy night gown, with ruffled cuffs and puffy sleeves. They are confident, flamboyant, & a sucker for Pre-Raphelite paintings. While their friend, «1940s Academic» happily taps their foot along to The Andrews Sisters, they prefer to stare at themselves dramatically in their looking glass, blasting Mozart until their stained glass windows begin to tremble. ~THE GENTLE FLORIST~ (Light Academia) A typical «Gentle Florist» will wake on rainy spring mornings & peacefully pour themselves a steaming cup of mint tea. They spend their evenings with a light read, accompanied by their cat & the warm glow of their vintage floor lamp. If they are religious, they like to help out with charity events at their place of worship. If they are not, they happily volunteer wherever they are needed on weekends. They like to have lunch with their friend «Gothic Poet» although their re-enactments of Romeo & Juliet can get tiresome after a while. Their wardrobe colours are dark greens, browns, tans & creamy whites. ~THE MAD WRITER~ (Chaotic Academia) A strong black coffee always helps to wake this academic up in the morning. They stumble out of bed late after an intense night of scribbling out ideas for plots and characters. They seem to fixate on the prospect of murder, which their secret lover, «Gentle Florist», finds slightly suspicious. Their room is littered with paper. Is that a receipt or an important writer's note lying beside the antique camera? We might just never know. They hate most people, especially crying babies on the train. They are brutally cold & sarcastic, but people can't stop falling for them. Their wardrobe colours are black, blood red, cold white & the occasional navy blue. ~THE VICTORIAN EXPLORER~ (Rachel Maksy has a great Victorian Treehouse vidéo which is a perfect example of this aesthetic) Picture a vast room, its surfaces clad with antique brass artefacts. Things like old gramophones, flashlights, clocks, globes & magnifying glasses. There are maps pinned on every wall, & old atlases in foreign languages amongst yellowed illustrations of the English coastlines. Now picture the person who inhabits this room. They love old hats & sunglasses. Perhaps they have tan lines on their arms from when they were out searching for islands in Micronesia. People say this person & «Mad Writer » had a mysterious past, but neither of them ever mention it. Their favourite wardrobe piece is their trademark, a pair of antique boots, perfect for exploring various types of terrain. ~THE INQUISITIVE MYCOLOGIST~ (Cottagecore X Dark Academia) This academic is obsessed with nature, but prefers to live in urban areas. They draw illustrations in the margins of their schoolbooks/ work notes of mushrooms & leaves & will often spend hours in the local library with their potential love interest, « Victorian Explorer », poring over mycology textbooks. Their favourite wardrobe item is of course their dark brown oxfords, with the laces replaced with red ribbons.

Strange how monsters can reach from beyond the grave, as potent in death as they were in life.
i will literally marry you on spot if you were to ever give me a book of annotated poetry with all your thoughts messily scrawled in the margins. highlighted lines of poetry that remind you of me, and a note on the first page stating how you wish i were to enjoy the book just as much as you had, as a gift. not kidding.

not to have an emotion but Amanda Gorman’s poem ‘The Hill We Climb’ was something else

Mr. President, Dr. Biden, Madam Vice President, Mr. Emhoff, Americans and the world, when day comes we ask ourselves where can we find light in this never-ending shade?
The loss we carry asea we must wade. We’ve braved the belly of the beast. We’ve learned that quiet isn’t always peace. In the norms and notions of what just is isn’t always justice.
And yet, the dawn is ours before we knew it. Somehow we do it. Somehow we’ve weathered and witnessed a nation that isn’t broken, but simply unfinished. We, the successors of a country and a time where a skinny black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president only to find herself reciting for one.
And yes, we are far from polished, far from pristine, but that doesn’t mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect. We are striving to forge our union with purpose. To compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters, and conditions of man. And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us, but what stands before us.
We close the divide because we know to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside. We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another. We seek harm to none and harmony for all. Let the globe, if nothing else, say this is true. That even as we grieved, we grew. That even as we hurt, we hoped. That even as we tired, we tried that will forever be tied together victorious. Not because we will never again know defeat, but because we will never again sow division.
Scripture tells us to envision that everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree and no one shall make them afraid. If we’re to live up to her own time, then victory won’t lie in the blade, but in all the bridges we’ve made. That is the promise to glade, the hill we climb if only we dare.
It’s because being American is more than a pride we inherit. It’s the past we step into and how we repair it. We’ve seen a forest that would shatter our nation rather than share it. Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy. This effort very nearly succeeded.
But while democracy can be periodically delayed, it can never be permanently defeated. In this truth, in this faith we trust for while we have our eyes on the future, history has its eyes on us. This is the era of just redemption. We feared it at its inception. We did not feel prepared to be the heirs of such a terrifying hour, but within it, we found the power to author a new chapter, to offer hope and laughter to ourselves so while once we asked, how could we possibly prevail over catastrophe? Now we assert, how could catastrophe possibly prevail over us?
We will not march back to what was, but move to what shall be a country that is bruised, but whole, benevolent, but bold, fierce, and free. We will not be turned around or interrupted by intimidation because we know our inaction and inertia will be the inheritance of the next generation. Our blunders become their burdens. But one thing is certain, if we merge mercy with might and might with right, then love becomes our legacy and change our children’s birthright.
So let us leave behind a country better than one we were left with. Every breath from my bronze-pounded chest we will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one.
We will rise from the gold-limbed hills of the West. We will rise from the wind-swept Northeast where our forefathers first realized revolution. We will rise from the Lake Rim cities of the Midwestern states. We will rise from the sun-baked South. We will rebuild, reconcile and recover in every known nook of our nation, in every corner called our country our people diverse and beautiful will emerge battered and beautiful. When day comes, we step out of the shade aflame and unafraid. The new dawn blooms as we free it. For there is always light. If only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it.
