"why do you know that" i am curious about the world around me

Listen to me. Listen to me. Listen to me. Listen to me.
I know there is a lot of discourse (tm) around this right now but listen to me
sometimes you do just have to lie to children.

Bras last longer if you let them air dry. Donât put them in the dryer.
If you have a problem with frizzy hair, donât dry your hair with a towel. It makes the frizzies worse. (I recently read an article that said to use a t-shirt? I brush mine out and let it air dry.)
Whites wash best in hot water. Everything else can be in cold - save on your electricity bill.
You can kill 99.9% of germs in a sponge by putting it in the dishwasher for a cycle or by microwaving it for 2 min (be sure to make the sponge damp before microwaving and to put a cup half full of water in with it and please DO NOT squeeze the sponge until it has cooled off)
Airing out your room/house and letting sunlight in every so often can decrease the number of household pests like silverfish and ants.
Black underwear is best during your period as stains are less likely to be visible.
To save money, put aside 10% of each paycheck into a savings account. Itâll add up.
Unless your hair has something on/in it (like grease or mud or something), using conditioner first can actually be the better choice. The conditioner holds in the good oils that help you hair look sleek and beautiful, which shampoo would otherwise wash away.
Speaking of shampoo - if you have long hair, washing just the bits that touch your scalp is generally enough. The rest of your hair gets cleaned with just the run off from your scalp.
If you put a tampon in and itâs uncomfortable/you can feel it, you didnât do it quite right. A properly placed tampon is virtually unnoticeable by the wearer.
Apply deodorant/antiperspirant a couple hours in advance of when you need it. This gives the product the chance to block your sweat glands. Using deodorant just before going somewhere where youâll sweat (this means walking outside for people in high humidity places) results in your sweat washing the deodorant off and starkly limiting its usefulness.
After running the dryer, use the dryer sheet from that load to brush out the lint catch - it gets everything off in a fraction of the time itâll take you to get it clean with your bare hands. Paper towels also work well.
Wash your face everyday, or as often as possible. Forget which brand of cleanser is best. Just washing your face everyday will guarantee you clearer skin. And do you best not to pop pimples, as tempting as the urge may be.
Fold laundry asap after taking it from the dryer to avoid wrinkles. This may seem obvious for dress shirts and silly for things like t-shirts, but youâll notice the difference even then once your shirts stop looking like unfolded paper balls.
idk who needs to hear this rn but suffering is not noble. take the tylenol
this is my formal request for a fic where ellie actually has to have a feeding tube instead of barely dodging it. as much as i like the idea of sparing her the pain, i have never seen a character with a tube literally anywhere and she keeps getting *so close*
and i think there's something to be said be here about the medical system and how it's reflected in marlene.
doctors, whether they mean to or not, have an amazing knack for dehumanizing you and corroding your attachment to your body
Silver Lake already severed some of that attachment and ownership she feels over her body (just based off the disassociation we see and logic)
so if Joel, say, insisted on waking her up and trying more tests first. or if he wanted the situation explained to ellie before she made the decision. i think we would have ended up with the same problem
if marlene, someone ellie trusts to keep her safe and has that connection to her mother, reaffirmed the idea that ellies body was a commodity, she would have chosen to die
even if joels decision making process wasn't this layered (which it wasnt), the situation still had a lot of nuance that is ignored typically
tw for pretty in-depth discussion of fictional suicide attempts/suicidal ideation ///
i just. think a Lot about how the idea of âwell ellie should have had a choice!â often ignores the implied fact that ellie, on the day she was entering the hospital, was struggling with some degree of suciidal ideation to the point where joel opened up about his attempt and ellieâs immediate response was:
âi know why youâre telling me thisâ
because sheâd been so nonresponsive, so far removed from her usual self in her depression, that joel was worried for her and thought the story of him recovering from his attempt, feeling that hopeless, would resonate with her.
âyeah, i reckon you doâ â thatâsâŠ.yeah.Â
and she goes for the âtime heals all woundsâ to wrap it in a bowâ the cliche of âit gets better, you just have to give it timeâ that we give to people struggling especially with suicidial thoughts and joel in a moment of rare vulnerability says âit wasnât time that did itâ â him telling her that he loves her and cares about her, that that is what healed him, that that is why heâs opening himself up because he doesnât want her to hurt like he did. that itâs not just going to be time, heâs here and heâs not going anywhere whatever healing looks like for her. and it hits her like a gut punch because itâs the last thing sheâs expecting and the thing that breaks through to her.
so if youâre asking the teenager with sucidial ideation, who has spent her entire life being told by an institution that she is inherently expendable and her life is worth nothing, coupled with her momâs friend echoing that same sentiment â of course she would have said yes. marlene with the âwhat would she want?â gee i wonder how putting her in a system that sees her as expendable would affect like worldview on top of countless traumas! and joel is the one person in her life who does not see her as worth sacrificing, who would mourn her and care about her to the point where heâs unwilling to mourn her even if it means she hates him.Â
when people we love and care about go through something like that, we donât go âoh i guess itâs your choiceâ. itâs âi will drag you kicking and screaming to go on with me if i have to because i love you and i donât want to do this without you, because you are worth more than how youâre feeling right now.â itâs what tommy did for joel. he dragged him out of that ditch, took him to a medic camp even though joel swears up and down itâs what he wants and never lets him do it again and he canât go on and do this. itâs what joel does later for ellie.Â
so yeah.
no i donât think joel shouldâve woken up ellie like
âr u sure?â
apparently you're not supposed to let fear control you đ that bitch is at the steering wheel!!!!!
I donât want to gatekeep you, I want you to love the thing, I want you to come in, I want you to walk by all the framed family fandom pictures on the walls as I narrate what scenes theyâre from and then I sit you on the couch so I can serve you fandom tea and let the fandom characters sit on your lap like cats so you can pet them while I put on a minor low budget production about why this thing is fun and why you might like it too, I am your fucking docent, my knowledge is your knowledge and if I donât know something I know another docent who does, follow me through the gates to the promised land my friend
at least zuko and sokka are in love
*sitting in my bedroom with nothing going on* HELP!!!! HELP ME!!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SOMEBODY FUCKING HELP ME!!!!
stay visible my favorite stranger things lesbians đ«Ąđ
Performance of the year tbh
joel + the face
Sure, he can do that no problem.
not romantic not platonic but a secret third thing (so devoted the lines blur)
the gradual shift in joel from being the guy whoâs so desensitized that he can carry a dead kid the same way he carried sarah to the site of her death and toss the corpse into a fire without blinking to being the guy who has a massive breakdown and almost nukes his whole life from the fear of ellie being irreparably harmed while under his careâŠâŠand the way the last few episodes the show go out of their way to specifically test him on that fearâŠ..like hey joel youâre mortally wounded and canât protect or take care of her, what do you do. hey joel while you were bedridden she went through the worst experience of her life, what do you do. hey joel [insert spoilers for last ep here, you get the idea]. and he rises to the occasion, he pushes through the fear for her, because she asked him to. she wanted him to be the one to deliver her. she didnât want anyone else. and heâs decided heâs going to give her whatever she wants
it takes time for the realization that heâs gonna have to confront his worst nightmare to really sink in. heâs built up a mental fortress against what happened to him 20 years ago. and you see that when he really starts to care is when all of that comes back up. the time skip between ep 5 and 6 was probably the Joel Quietly Freaks Out with Increasing Frequency and Intensity variety hour
and him telling her sheâs not his daughter. aside from being that thing where you say the worst thing you can think of to someone when youâre trying to end your relationship with them so you canât go back and change your mind later. but also, when you peel back all the layers of pain and fear, thatâs him saying âyou are not going to die.â up until that moment itâs the most honest and open expression of his feelings that heâs shared with her. his daughter died in his arms. thatâs what happens to âjoelâs daughter.â so ellie cannot be his daughter
that probably shouldâve been 3 separate posts but itâs season finale day and iâm unmedicated, fuck it
I've been a Joel supporter since the game came out and after watching that episode, and especially now that I've become a mom since the game, I still stand firm in my choice to support what Joel did.
For those saying "But he lied to Ellie!" - yeah. He did. But you know who else did? The Fireflies. Marlene. She even had the balls to say to Joel "You're not giving her the choice because you know what she'd choose." Implying that she would choose to be operated on. But you know what? She didn't give Ellie a choice either. Marlene even said they sedated her and told her nothing so she wouldn't be afraid. That right there says Marlene doesn't know for sure that Ellie would choose self sacrifice, so she withheld that rather important piece of information from her.
Ellie is also 14 years old. This sort of decision is way too much to put on her shoulders, and I say this as a very mature 14 year old when I was that age.
"Ok, but this is the fate of the world!" Says who? What they didn't give you in the show was the letters/notes Joel finds in the hospital saying Ellie wasn't the first immune person that they've performed lethal surgery on to poke around in a brain. And you know what? None of it worked. Could Ellie have worked? Maybe. But it's a slim chance in hell it would and that just wasn't worth it to Joel.
You also can't vaccinate a fungal infection. It doesn't work that way, which is why doctors give people creams and hope for the best when they have fungal infections.
Also, this was ONE doctor with some nurses. A doctor and a scientist are not the same thing. Granted, a doctor would be better at figuring something out, but that wasn't his area of expertise. He'd need a whole team of experts to even hope to find a cure IF it was there. They also had no equipment, no mri's or cat scans, nothing. Yes, they were in a hospital but right before Joel enters the room, one of them asks "Do we have enough power?" They're not even sure they can power the room to perform the surgery - how ar they going to spend countless months and years on a supposed cure?
BUT let's overlook all of that and say by some miracle they find a cure. How are they going to mass produce said cure? They most likely don't have the resources for this as everything is shut down and 20 years old. And even if they did, how to mass distribute it? Marlene said the Fireflies would, but so many people distrust them so who's to say they'd accept it? Not to mention Joel, by himself, took out an entire building of them.
Marlene also had the audacity to say to Joel that she understands his plight because she was there when Ellie was born so she gets it. No, you don't. You took your friend's baby out of obligation and put her in an orphanage and straight into a FEDRA school/camp. Marlene came back when Ellie was bit, chained her up in a room for weeks, and kept performing experiments on her to see if she would turn. She didn't raise Ellie so she couldn't possibly have known that sort of connection.
In the end, Joel chose love because he loves Ellie like he loved his daughter. And if I were in his shoes, I 100% would've made the exact same decision.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
Would be asleep right now, but there are Fictional Characters to imagine in emotional situations. You know how it is.
sorry but I am officially a joel miller apologist. the fireflies knock him out & as soon as he regains consciousness marlene breaks the news to him that âyah sorry youâre never going to see your daughter again bc the surgery is lethal. but hereâs her knife as a keep sake <3âČ iâm sorry marlene but u thought that was going to go over well? you thought the insanely dangerous and firearm proficient man was who obviously bonded to ellie was going to go calmly? she should have sent ten men to escort him out. thirty. she should have just shot him in the head while he was unconscious. but of course she underestimated how much he cared. what he would do for ellie. bc she knew mean gruff self serving survivalist joel not father joel. she didnât even let joel and ellie say goodbye to each other. was planning on killing ellie without even telling her for an experimental procedure they had no proof would work. didnât even give joel the option to see her one last time. âwould u kill 1 person to save 100?â they didnât even allow a fourteen year old the agency to answer that question. team joelÂ
I love u in the same way there's a chapel in a hospital btw
