Damian keeps bringing animals to the Cave because back home the al Ghuls have an animal conservatory. He can adopt as many animals as he wants and finds it atrocious that his Father doesn't have one.
Damian: Where are all the animals? *looks around*
Bruce: the what?
Alfred: *raises his eyebrows*
Talia: He doesn't have a conservatory my love, he owns a company
Damian: *crunches his nose*
Please, I’m begging for this
Dp x Dc crossover but instead of a twin au its a I am a girl like you au.
Like the fic The Bat Trap but instead, it's Damian and Danny seeing each other and going "I'm just Like you" like that barbie movie The Princess and the Pauper, and then switching places.
Are you a “can’t write dialogue” writer or a “can’t describe anything” writer
So currently one of the relatives I'm staying with has a UTI and has therefore been prescribed treatment. One of which is a dietary supplement intended to maintain urinary health that happens to boast of tasting like cranberries.
To me, cranberries are famously unpalatable so I cannot fathom why they'd be flavoured this way.
It brings to mind the time the vague recollection of the time the president of a company in the US that makes cranberry juice had to complain about the FDA's desire for them to show the public how much sugar was in a single bottle of juice by admitting that cranberries had an unpalatable taste that needed to be altered.
It also reminds me of how cranberries are farmed; they are lighter than water and so float so every cranberry harvest the farmers flood the fields and collect what floated. Unfortunately that includes the spiders they used to prevent common prey from eating their cranberries. The spiders would grab onto what's closest to not drown and then jump onto the poor human harvesting the cranberries who had to be sure not to make any sudden movements or would be bitten and therefore in incredible pain.
I thought of all of this and it wouldn't leave my head and realised; 'hey you know where you should spew all of this barely organised and cognizant word vomit? Tumblr!'
Ok not to be controversial cuz I really do like her original design from the show, BUT HEAR ME OUT
I was inspired by Halle Bailey’s recent instagram pic with her gorgeous locs and couldn’t help but think of Holly O’Hair. Her design in EAH is adorable, but it doesn’t really do anything groundbreaking in terms of Rapunzel adaptations besides her ginger hair.
As a child, seeing a black Rapunzel with long beautiful locs would’ve literally blown my tiny mind, so this is low key just a self-indulgent gift to little me :)
Also, I absolutely adore eah and all its characters but can we talk about how Justine Dancer was the ONLY black royal/princess in the entire series?…. And we only got her several years in and toward the end of the series?? AND she got almost zero screen time in the specials and only one webisode appearance before the show was cancelled???? Justice for my girl Justine.
Overview of some topics when it comes to drawing characters who are burn survivors.
DISCLAIMER. Please keep in mind that this is an introductory overview for drawing some burn scars and has a lot of generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People. I'm calling this introductory because I hope to get people to actually do their own research before drawing disabled & visibly different characters rather than just making stuff up. Think of it as a starting point and take it with a grain of salt (especially if you have a very different art style from mine).
Talking about research and learning... don't make your burn survivor characters evil. Burn survivors are normal people and don't deserve to be constantly portrayed in such a way.
edit: apparently tum "queerest place on the internet" blr hates disabled people so much that this post got automatically filtered. cool!
LEFT: R:SOB #1 Cover RIGHT: R:SOB #6
Introduced in: ROBIN: SON OF BATMAN (2015) #1
DAMIAN'S BABY AND BEASTY BESTIE!! On a mission during the Year of Blood, Damian kills the family of bat dragons guarding his objective. Goliath, despite being the youngest and last of his kind, forgives Damian. Goliath goes on to become one of Damian's most loyal companions, even featuring beside him in Batman Beyond (2016) #10, #11, #43-#47!
LEFT: B&R #13 RIGHT: B&R #4
Introduced in: BATMAN AND ROBIN (2011) #2
A Great Dane gifted to Damian from Bruce as an effort in fatherhood. Funny enough, Damian finds him a nuisance at first and briefly refers to him as "Dog". Titus is a good boy that follows Damian's every step, even joining Bruce on his mission to resurrect Damian!
LEFT: Batman Inc #1 RIGHT: Batman Inc #7
Introduced in: BATMAN INCORPORATED (2012) #1
Bat-Cow, branded with a star signifying which cattle were contaminated, was saved from a slaughterhouse to run some tests (which they do find of a mind control variety). Damian declares himself a vegetarian, and calls her Bat-Cow! She also sorta has a running gag of literally standing in the face of danger to save the day.
LEFT: Batman Inc #6 RIGHT: Batman Inc #7
Introduced in: BATMAN INCORPORATED (2012) #6
Considered a "hopeless case" by the animal shelter, Alfred gifts him to Damian. The cat is a bold lil guy, which Damian takes an immediate liking to, and names him Alfred (likely because tuxedo cat = butler lol). After hours of chicken, playtime, and scratches, Damian and Alfred become friends! He makes his first appearance alongside Damian’s first appearance as Batman in BATMAN (1940) #666
LEFT: Batman: Li'l Gotham #2/#1 RIGHT: Batman: Li'l Gotham #23/#12
Introduced in: BATMAN LI'L GOTHAM (2012) #2 (Digital) #1 (Printed)
The Penguin unleashes an army of turkeys at the Gotham Thanksgiving parade which Damian turns into his own li'l turkey march by playing the trumpet. He ends up bringing one of them back for Thanksgiving dinner (as a friend), and Jerry becomes a fairly regular appearance in the world of Li'l Gotham!
Introduced in: NIGHTWING (2016) #42
A sort of filler issue where Damian has been kidnapped for his blood by the "Crimson Kabuki" in Tokyo, and Dick goes through a series of boss battles to save him. The dragon's blood has been the group's main source of power, so it ends up teaming with the duo, and returns home with them.
Wiggles was originally named by a fan, "Shanootnoot" on Twitter!
*Goliath, Titus, Bat-Cow, and Alfred the cat have been Damian's main canon cast of furry companions, but SUPER-PETS SPECIAL: BITEDENTITY CRISIS (2024) may have just added Jerry and Wiggles!!
A short list of things I think everyone should try or do at least once in their life that will make you feel more alive. Not all of these are applicable to every person, but it’s a summary:
Take a dance class of any style with a semi-serious instructor for at least 4 classes worth
Write a work of fiction, of *any* length and *any* quality
Learn a least a bit of a language that isn’t your native one. You don’t need to become anywhere near fluent, but try and get a bit beyond yes, no, and where’s the bathroom. If you’re from a country where most people are bilingual already, that doesn’t count! Get bits of a language with which you are truly unfamiliar.
In the same vein, make peace with subtitles and start consuming music, TV and movies from cultures that aren’t your own. If your country imports large amounts of media from a specific other culture or cultures (American movies in foreign markets, for example) that also doesn’t count! Get some feelers out to begin to take in content from a culture that you don’t already have a lot of knowledge of.
Try at least one less common/less “exercisey” and more fun type of physical exercise such as roller blading or roller or ice skating, gymnastics, trampoline, rock climbing, aerial silks, pole dancing, surfing, etc
Learn a hobby or craft that produces a physical finished product and produce a single, complete object - regardless of quality - that you can hold in your hands and say that you made.
Look up a how it’s made video or YouTube video on how an item that’s interesting or relevant to you is made
Give one type of thing - media, hobby, sport, whatever - that you’ve never been interested in or never tried because of some preconceived perception an honest shot and see if your perception was correct. Sometimes it won’t be, sometimes it will be, but it’s valuable to know.
Rearrange the furniture in a room in your home
It’s about NOVELTY, babey! Get some enrichment into your enclosure!
I think at one point Ra’s was a good grandfather.
This is kinda approaching what I consider to be “my” canon, that being Ra’s slowly losing his mind due to his age and the losses he’s experienced.
I have this idea of Damian being like 6 and him finding a fledgling crow with a broken wing. He kinda just sits there and examines it for a while when Ra’s comes up behind him.
“What do you have?” He asks, groaning as he bends down beside Damian.
“I think he’s hurt, Grandfather.” Damian tells him.
Ra’s hums. Damian watches in awe as his Grandfather ignored the pecks as he gently maneuvered the bird to take a look.
“Oh, dear.” He tuts. “Looks like a broken wing, poor thing.” He places it down and stands. “Come along now, Damian.”
Damian hesitates, “Can we not help it?”
Ra’s picks up Damian. “Habibi. Life is full of tragedies. But the body of this crow will feed other scavengers, and those scavengers will feed the predators. That is the way of life, my dear.”
“But, he’s not dead yet.” Damian argues. And looks up at Ra’s with big puppy dog eyes.
Ra’s is a strong man, but not strong enough here.
So, he helps bring the crow inside. Ra’s carefully creates a splint for the crows wing and Damian helps Talia cut up some food and give the fledgling some water.
The bird heals and Damian cries when they have to release it. But smiles when the crow comes back to visit every couple of weeks or so.
As the years pass by, Ra’s begins to lose himself. He doesn’t notice it, but his loved ones do. No one is sure what the cause is. Perhaps it’s exposure to the pit. The brief madness one experiences after a dip might have a prolonged and permanent effect after so many uses. Or maybe the human brain is not designed to be alive for so long. It doesn’t matter in the end. Ra’s becomes cruel, unsympathetic, and short tempered.
Talia loses faith that the man before her is her Father when he raised a hand to Damian. Her Father would never. Her Father is lost.
Luckily she stopped him before he could hit her baby. She sends Damian to Bruce to keep him safe as she stages a coup. Talia was planning to anyways, it’s clear her son is not an assassin.
Idk, I don’t know if this makes sense. Just seeing a bunch of Al Ghul discourse on my dash and thought I’d add my two cents :3
when did he say he was happy when kurt was weak, don't need to twist to make your life happier
Oh, someone needs to go watch Tested again because it’s all there, buttercup. That great scene in the NYADA stage weapons class when Kurt was working out surrounded by male admirers (one of which asked Kurt to flex for him) while poor Blainy poo was sitting by himself and shoving cheese puffs into his cake hole. Shall I remind you of what Blaine said in his own voice over?
I’ve got to hand it to Kurt, he’s looking amazing these days. And he deserves all the attention he’s getting. Still, I can’t help but feel… what is it? Oh, just cut the crap, Blaine… I’m actually feeling a little jealous. Back at McKinley, I’d be the guy getting fawned over. I lifted, I boxed… I was in the Dalton fight club, for God’s sake. Kurt was… well, Kurt. Most of the time he was more comfortable hanging out with the girls. Like when the glee club sang Summer Nights, he did the Rizzo part. But the winds have changed. There’s a shift in the power dynamic. Kurt’s the hotshot now. And after what happened to him a few weeks ago, a lot of people look at him as a hero. He’s leading man material. I’ve always known he could be that, but most people didn’t. I guess I’m not used to Kurt being seen as a sexual object. And to be completely honest, I don’t know if I’m comfortable with that.
So let’s take a look at what Blaine said here… he was most comfortable and happy when he was the one that all the guys flocked around and wanted to be friends with him while Kurt hung out with the girls (and the amount of distain in Blaine’s voice when he said that Kurt was… Kurt, is really telling). He’s not happy that Kurt is the one that now all these hot guys at NYADA are looking at and are flirting with. It was fine and Blaine was happy when he got all the acknowledgement and Kurt was the one sitting on the sidelines, watching him adoringly. But now that Kurt is the admired one… it drove Blaine nuts. He liked it when he was the guy who everyone looked up to, but now that people thought Kurt was a hero (and fuck it, he was a hero for rushing into a dark alley to try to save someone’s life), Blaine said very clearly that there was a shift in the power dynamic - now with Kurt as the strong one and Blaine the lesser of the pairing - and Blaine couldn’t handle it.
And look at the difference in how Kurt and Blaine handled this imbalance. When the imbalance was in Blaine’s favor, he was completely blind to it and how it was affecting Kurt and did nothing to try to fix things. He was perfectly happy when Kurt was excluded or didn’t get decent parts (like his total non-reaction to Kurt getting cast as Office Krupke in WSS), while Kurt was supportive of him. Now things have switched at Kurt was very cognizant of how Blaine was struggling and was making a concerted effort that his recent successes didn’t demoralize Blaine.
So no… no twisting here. Just not ignoring things that actually happened in the show that are inconvenient and get in the way of my perception of my favored character.
Basic rules for analysing fiction, an incomprehensive list jotted down in a hurry:
The protagonist isn’t always right
The protagonist isn’t always good
The protagonist isn’t always written to be relatable or likeable
The narrator isn’t always right
The narrator isn’t always good
The narrator isn’t always telling the truth
The narrator isn’t always the author
The protagonist’s moral compass, the narrator’s moral compass and the author’s moral compass are three entirely different things that only occasionally overlap
Pay attention to what characters do and not just what they say
Pay special attention when what the characters do is at odds with what they say
A lot of the time the curtains are blue for a reason. If they aren’t, you should read better books
