Merry almost Christmas day, I forgot last year, but not this one!
Today is 4/13, happy homestuck day and Neil banging out the tunes day ya'll
so I've been looking for a specific creepypasta for years now. Like, going on 7 or so years now? I remember a lot of details I swear were part of the story, but its been long enough that I suggest taking the details with a grain of salt. It's possible I may be mixing up certain things.
I found it on a creepy pasta wiki of some kind. The site had a kinda grey and red color scheme. It also had a creepy pasta of the month section? Or maybe an author of the month? I found it in a section like that, and I think I remember the authors name being umbrello? Though that may be unrelated.
The story was really really long. Like, it would take several minutes to scroll through a whole page, and it was multiple pages long. I think it was about 17 pages long?
The story was set in a mall before Christmas time. It mentioned that in one wall of the mall was this mural of an old man that was noted as being really creepy. The MC was a guy who worked in the mall, and the store he worked in was near a candle shop? Because it was near Christmas there were a lot of elf on the shelf dolls around the store.
The horror part happens when the guy gets dragged into a game with some kind of evil entity haunting the mural, I think. The entity would send out monsters in the store that would hunt this guy and the customers, especially his friends I think? If the monsters successfully stole someone from the store and dragged them into the mural, the entity won that round. The guy could only fight them off using things he found in the store, anything he took from outside would disappear.
The elf on the shelf dolls were also kinda haunted in some way? They acted as the referees of each round. They would wipe the customers memories after each round, and get rid of any evidence of the monster attacks. I think they also punished any cheating somehow?
The guy spent the first few rounds struggling to figure out the rules and fight the creatures. But I do think he won once or twice? He did end up losing too many times eventually, and the old man mural entity was going to keep his the people it stole forever.
But the guy made a deal or something and was able to get into the entities world to fight it himself, and if I remember right he beat it? My memory is pretty fuzzy on that part.
If I recall correctly, he mentioned a lot through flashbacks and stuff that his mom was a writer of some kind when he was a kid. He mentioned that her story had a character who fought monsters too. And during the final fight (I think), he finally remembered how the character in his moms stories beat the monsters. It had something to do with peppermint I think? Which was obviously everywhere because it was almost Christmas.
I think the story ended with mentioning the old man was gone from the mural, and it generally had a happy or positive feeling ending? I remember that as being part of why it stuck with me, I think.
Ive looked for every combination of Christmas, creepypasta, old man mural story, any key words I could think of. I even tried the wayback machine once, just in case I was right about the author name and they just deleted the story or something.
Its been driving me nuts that I can't find this story and I don't know anyone else who can confirm it's existence. If anyone else on here has read it and knows what I'm talking about, please tell me, or share a link. I want to know I didn't just dream up a huge story as a middleschooler somehow.
So, im trying to do a duplication glitch or something in cotl, and one of the steps of that is to murder a follower. Since i may end up doing this glitch multiple times over a few days, I want to limit the amount of faith I lose in the process. The text blurb for the murder follower doctrine says that followers only lose faith if they see you commit the murder. I looked it up and everyone says if you murder a follower at night and away from everyone else, you shouldn't lose faith. Despite attempting to follow those instructions I still lose faith when I try.
Last time I tried it, I had the follower sleep in a bed on the complete opposite end of the base from everyone else. I also made sure everyone was asleep, and no one was still walking to their bed. Then I woke up the follower and tried to murder them, and immediately got the faith loss. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong, or is there no way to avoid the murder penalty?
So, technically this is meant as a Halloween costume, but I figure it would work as a cosplay should I feel like going to a convention in the future. This is technically also a face reveal i suppose? I'm pretty sure this is one of the first times my actual face has gone online lol. Wish my hair was better brushed in the picture, but hindsight is 20/20. X3
Also, if anyone is curious, there is writing on the dog tags! Props to anyone who knows what fanfiction I got the writing on the top tag from!
Let me know what you think I guess?
Ok so, I remember one fic a little better than the other, but Ill list all the details i know about them. Take some details with a grain of salt, my memory is pretty bad, and I have accidentally mixed up details before.
They were both AO3 fics for sure, and im pretty sure both were bagginshield and everybody lives aua.
In the one I remember better, Bilbo was staying in erebor, i think post botfa. He is working with the men and dwarves under thorins orders to help teach farming and get some farms and gardens going to provide food for everyone. In particular I remember him working with bards advisor. Theres some unrest among the dwarves over thinking of gardening as beneath them. And later in the story both Bilbo and Ori are kidnapped by the advisor and a bunch of other guys. Ori was only taken because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The advisor is actually pretty nice to them, because he has nothing against them, he just really needs the ransom money. The advisor dude is later killed by the other guys after an escape attempt by ori and bilbo. I think thorin and dwalin find the two in rough shape while trying to rescue them?
The one I remember less of is mostly just one particular scene that stuck with me, where bilbo was in erebor, and explaining to a dwarf/dwarves (probably thorin, some company members, and/or Dis) that hobbits can grow their faunts in gardens, and that they can have kids with other races. And if a hobbit has children with someone from another race, that ability to grow kids doesn't dilute. I think I recall him saying that the dwarves of another mountain actually have a lot of hobbit lineage in them due to their proximity to the shire resulting in hobbit/dwarf relationships. So the dwarves of that mountain can use gardens to keep up a decent population, and they have terraces along the side of the mountain for that purpose. Of course, given that the gardens are for growing children they are well guarded. I don't remember many other story details. The best I've got is that i'm pretty sure it was a bagginshield story, and that bilbo was probably going to have kids in that story. though whether that was via the garden method or the usual way I'm not sure.
I think both fics were multiple chapters long, and i think the first one was complete? please help me find these, I have spent a while searching all the relevant tags i could think of, along with my subscriptions and bookmarks.
Well I both feel accomplished, and a lot of pain. I hate moving furniture, but I just put in about 5 hours of work to move the contents of my entire bedroom across the house. My back is very sore. Ow. Can't wait for my chiropractor appointment to hopefully help with this.
So there’s this really good bushmedicine series on AO3 by @mickmundy and I made a keychain for it.
The whole series is pretty full of symbolism, but I chose a few things from the series that wouldn’t be too hard to simplify down into a keychain. On one side is an apricot and a pomegranate. On the other side is a dove and crocodile.
(All four look slightly janky, but I also don’t have much experience making keychain sized patterns. It’s hard making a recognizable looking image that also fits within a space 11 squares wide.)
I also added a couple metal charms, one a feather and the other an anatomically correct heart. I am currently very tired, so I’ll probably wait and explain my reasonings for my choices later.
Please go read the series, it’s very good: https://archiveofourown.org/series/2796286
Here’s some pictures I took of my work:
Sorry for the terrible lighting, it’s like, midnight for me right now. I just wanted to post this before I lost my nerve. If Dutch is reading this, hiya, I hope you like it! I tried my best. :D
So there’s this amazing Tf2 Bushmedicine fic called Doves and Arrows, by @anonymous-astronaut, and I decided to make a thing for it. Astro at one point put the title of his fic into an ai generator, which produced this image:
I got permission to turn it into a wall hanging, and have finished this after almost 3 weeks of work (front and back):
If anyone wants to see my explanation for choices I made or in progress photos I took, I’ll put them under the cut since I tend to ramble. Please go read Doves and arrows, it is fantastic.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/23886154/chapters/57423127
So, I started out by trying to make sense of the original ai image. I threw it into an art program and made 2 copies of it. One sticking closely to the original image, just cleaned up. The other changing some of the weirder shapes into something recognizable. I especially focused on including actual arrows into the second image.
I decided to use the second image, and put it into a site called Bracelet Book, in order to get a pattern to use. I did my best to make the pattern as symmetrical as I could on the first pass, but the dove was very difficult to work with.
People looking closely may see that the final project looks a little different from the pattern. Especially the dove’s eyes and the fletching on the arrows. That’s because I would sometimes make on the fly decisions to alter parts of the pattern, since it’s pretty flexible like that. Most edits were done to make parts look more even or less cluttered (except for 2 specific changes). Here is the edited pattern I had by the end of all this. The edits are a little messy since most were drawn using my phone. :P
Once I had a pattern, I started working on making it. The kind of method I used is used for what’s called Alpha bracelet patterns. If anyone wants to know more, I recommend looking up tutorials by the youtuber Masha Knots, as she was the one I learned from. Here’s some progress photos, as you can see it’s a pretty messy looking process.
I changed the eyes and and arrow fletching colors for a specific reason actually. I wanted the eyes to be blue since the dove represents the BLU Medic, Josef. The arrows fletching then became red for the RED Sniper, Mick. I just felt like the plainer pattern wasn’t as clearly a Tf2 thing.
Once I finished off the pattern, I tied the strings I had been tying my knots on into little tassels. I sewed a black outline around the beak, since it didn’t stand out against the body as well as I hoped. I also decided to make a cover for the back. This is because, for anyone who doesn’t know, the back of an alpha pattern pretty much always looks like a disaster. It takes a lot of work to hide the mess, so I like to make fabric covers for it. I did neaten up the mess where I could before sewing on the cover though.
When I made the fabric backing, I originally just planned something simple and plain, but the only fabric I had was blue, which didn’t match the look of the piece. So I got the idea to paint it to lean into the red and blue theme, complete with the characters class symbols. I cut out the fabric, hand hemmed it as best I could, and painted it with some acrylic paints I had.
Then it was just a matter of sewing it on and adding a string for the wall hanging to hang from! This is the biggest project of this sort I have ever made, nearly twice the size of the second largest wall hanging I’ve done. It’s about 5 1/2 inches tall (not counting tassels), and 5 1/4 inches wide. If anyone is interested in making anything like this, I have some advice. One, always get way more string than you think you need. I got two bundles of each kind of thread I purchased, since I got some specifically to color match as best I could. By the end I had to make another run to Michaels for more green since what I had wasn’t enough. Also, try to keep your knots neat and evenly sized. Some parts of the pattern aren’t clear on the final project because the knots are hard to see.
If you actually read through this whole thing, I hope you have a good day!
Here’s another thing I made for the Mechs. I based it off the picture of the Aurora on the mechs wiki, as well as the schematics drawn by the person who played Nastya. I made it to include the solar sail thing mentioned in both. Although since it isn’t clear exactly what a solar sail is, its basically just an umbrella. Under a read more since its a pretty long post.
I’m proud of the sail being functional. That took a lot of googling to figure out! I also made the sail removable, with a little insert that gives it a cap I guess. The paint definitely needs some touch ups, but not bad for about 5-ish days of work I think?
... please validate my effort? (TvT)
Hey, does anyone have a good picture/drawing of The Aurora from the outside, preferably in color? I’m thinking of trying to make a 3d model of her, since I have lots of airdry clay to spare. (I know there’s a picture of the aurora on the mechs site, but the lighting makes it a bit hard to see the details of the ship.)
Well, I know I’m massively late to the party, but I wanted to share this!
This is a mini wall hanging I handmade of the Mechs logo! I made it because I didn’t know about the mechs until well after they stopped performing, so I had no chance to get any Mechanisms merchandise or anything. So I decided to make something myself!
Unfortunately, no one I know irl is also a fan, so I figured Id share it here, since this is my only social media. I’m pretty proud of it, considering I had to make the pattern myself, do my best to color match with limited supplies, and hand sew that hemmed backing piece.
2nd verse, same as the first. This makes the second night in a row that the fire alarm went off after 11 pm and forced us all to evacuate. I have had maybe 5 collective hours of sleep in the last 3 days, and I am on the verge of tears.
Thats not even half of it either. The fire alarms mark the 4th time I was interrupted while trying to record videos for assignments due in the morning. I also found out our toilet us leaking water, so we had to be given a key to an empty dorm to use that bathroom instead. Today has been pretty stress inducing to put it lightly. Help.
Guess who found out she was allergic to a new medication! you get 3 guesses and the first two don’t count.
I have no clue if anyones pointed this out yet, but I noticed at the end of episode one of The Owl House, when fireworks are going up, you can see what almost looks like glyphs in them? I’m not sure if thats just the fireworks designs they were exploding in, but I think it would be neat if there were hints to glyphs even in episode 1.
Am I an idiot? I’m asking because I have never taken art lessons. I’ve never taken animation lessons. I’ve barely even practiced drawing in sketchbooks or notebooks. For all intents and purposes I am an amateur at any art form involving drawing or sketching.
And yet here I am, attempting to commit myself to finishing an animation meme, despite having almost no free time and practically never having touched an animation program before.
I’m basically working off youtube videos and nothing else for instructions on what to do/ avoid doing. I animated two 1 second clips to help get used to the program and jumped right in.
Wish me luck I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyone else want to cry from stress? I’ve been so swamped with work from my classes and chores that I had almost no free time. And in what little free time I did have I mostly played Spiritfarer and read fanfiction. I haven’t spent time on my here in what feels like ages. >:(
I’ve been vibing w/ Lgbtq tiktoks, and now im in the mood to go buy a cottage in the woods and live there with my QPR bf and 3 dogs. im just... feeling many not straight feelings in this dennys tonight, anyone relate?
I’ve been working on a lyric comic for a few weeks now because zarla managed to get me interested in a niche fandom and an absolute goblin of an oc from their fanfic. The comic is taking so long because of my accursed homework. I want it to be Dec. 12th already so it can be winter break. >:(
Also, I’ve never spent much time practicing drawing, so some of the time is literally just me searching through their tumblr for a good piece of reference art. I’m so tired, yet determined to finish what I started. It is a pretty good fic too. I’ve been enjoying the dynamic between Scriabin and Edgar.
I gotta ask, how many people learn more than they ever thought they would about a fandom via fandom osmosis? Also, for what fandom? Like, I’m not even a mcyt watcher, but by virtue of dating someone in the fandom, I actually know some lore for things like dream smp. I even sent them a song video I guessed would be accurate to the fandom, and was right. At this point, I’m just counting the days before I am also a big fan of mcyt, given that that’s how I became a Homestuck fan too. XD
I have 2 whole followers now? A day after creating my account? I expected the first one, as they are a person I know IRL, but uh, hi to the other person who apparently enjoyed my first post!
In other news, Physics class sucks! I just spent approximately 8 hours doing only 20 math problems. Why must I suffer.
At least I can be cheered up by the fact that several ao3 fics I enjoy updated today! I was especially pleased that a homestuck story, called “the run and go” by deserts updated, after nearly a year of radio silence. Also, “There’s still magic” by RosesCry, which is a fairly good undertale one.
I really freaking love undertale and homestuck. I, unfortunately arrived really late to both fandoms. I found undertale in 2016 or 2017, but only played the game in late 2019. I found homestuck in around the same time.
Can I say, if you don’t focus on the weird toxic parts that every fandom seems to have (exept the sanders sides fanbase, they’re wholesome), the undertale and HS comunnities are actually super unique and inspiring!
Undertale fans loved the game so much that they remade the story again and again, coming up with unique alternate universes that became so popular within the fanbase that the nicknames given to au characters are easily recognizable.
Homestuck is cool just for how widespread and simultaneously mainstream yet niche it is. By that I mean, I have seen people joke about how there are no homestucks in their town (myself included), yet when I wore my black hoodie with a teal libra symbol embroidered on it, a teenaged looking girl actually came up and asked if it was a reference! Heck, my love of HS is actually part of what inspired my username. To be exact, I modelled it after pesterchum handles.
As for why it’s “fandomfriend” in particular, I just, really love talking about the sheer power of how a book, movie, show, comic, or game can bring strangers together. I adore meta commentary, and I’m pretty sure I would squeal with joy if someone wanted to discuss fanfiction tropes (I have even made a podcast episode on fandom psychology for a school project). It doesn’t particularly matter which fandom, as I think they are all pretty great, hence the nonspecific name and pfp, see?
I should probably cut it there, both for the sake of my sleeping schedule, and for whatever poor sap tries to read my sleep deprived rambling. XD
Hello to whoever is reading this! (probably one very specific person, you know who you are :) )
I am tired, “mildly” incompetent, and am here for the chaos!
